  1. That's my new theme song and its not for a good reason. I guess protein shakes and I are not friends. I am dying, I was up at 4am with the worst gas pains of my life. I told my sister in law that I was going to be the Virgin Macy on "I didn't know I was pregnant" that or I had an alien making an escape through my stomach. This morning it happened again and I had a lovely bout of diarrhea, I've never been so happy to have that! It immediately eliminated the pain. I had 3oz of a protein shake AND it all started again. I know protein shakes can be a process but I don't know if I can deal with this every time. It's horrid.
  2. Hey all. Sleeved the 27th, home since Thursday. I still need to rely on my pain Killers a bit, but they give me terrible headaches so I avoid them if possible. Sometimes the muscle pain behind my biggest incision makes it intolerable. I slightly overdid it today but for the most part I am good. Got in 64oz of water today, and a few ounces of protein shakes and around 1/2C over two meals of strained soup. I have dull back pain, that I've had since day 1. I think it is the lack of movement when sleeping. I am not ready to run a marathon and I still nap but that is the meds that make me so sleepy. I am so paranoid I am going to have a leak its not even funny. I take my temp multiple times a day, but I know I am doing everything that I can do to be safe. I gained 12# in the hospital and as of this am I was down around 15#. I am trying to not be obsessed with weighing. I am only counting official weights from my surgeons office.
  3. I kept it a secret through the whole process (except to family and close friends) and on the day of my surgery, a few hours post op, high on morphine I outed myself to the world. I have no regrets, it was my plan all along. I couldn't believe the rush of support and ongoing support. I believe we have all earned the right to our privacy and if you want to keep it a secret do! I agree that the only way for things to truly remain a secret is if no one really knows. Even yesterday my dad had a phone call at work from a past employer who had a question and she said "your daughter and I were in the hospital at the same time and have the same surgeon" my dad was like how in the world did she know? Well my best friend had told her mom who went to visit her friend and mentioned their former bosses daughter was in the hospital and why. I don't care either way but things like that spread like fire.
  4. I get ya! I'm thankful I've been able to sleep on my side from the first night home. Unfortunately in my sleep I guard myself and have a constant back ache from lack of movement at night.
  5. I am minimum 1 oz every 15 minutes. No more than 8 oz an hour. 8oz is my goal. My first half day home from the hospital wasn't great, 17oz or something. Yesterday, my 2nd day home and 4th day post op I hit 40 oz and today, 3rd day home and 5th day post op I am on target for 64oz. Not counting a half of a Popsicle I had earlier, soup or protein drinks. I'm very persistent. I've already learned first thing in the morning my sleeve is not ready for 8oz of fluid so I take it easy. As the day goes on my tolerance increases and I increase. I feel better getting my fluids in for sure!
  6. I went low carb and lost 8# in a week.
  7. I am 4 days post op and I can take in 8 oz of water and 1 oz of protein an hour. I can't take in over 2oz of protein in any given sitting. In the first week or so the liquids are way more important than the protein. I can tell that I'm increasing everyday. There is no way I could sit and drink a shake in one sitting right now.
  8. I was on full liquids from the day I left the hospital but it was highly emphasized to get the hydration in before the protein. If your surgeon wants you to do clear liquids for a week than move on to full liquids I would honestly follow their instructions. Do you have a nutritionist you can call to get their opinion?
  9. Are they giving you something? I've been on Zofran every 4 hours in hospital and every 6 at home. I have never been nauseous.
  10. My first meeting was about an hour and than it was 7months before I saw him again. I had a second meeting about 4 weeks before surgery that was another hour or so and than I saw him daily in the hospital.
  11. The morning of my surgery on the way to the hospital I was trying to convince my mom we should just go get breakfast. Than my surgery started two hours late. I wanted to leave so bad. I had to relax and take a breath and remember why I was doing it. It's scary, I totally get it, but now that I'm a few days post op its ok. It's all a process.
  12. I was thankful to hear that my bariatric office keeps hydration on hand. If its during the week we can go there and they will hydrate us and send us on our way.
  13. I can easily sleep on my right side. Not so much on the left side. I tested it by putting a pillow behind one of my sides And it lifted that side up enough that I wasn't flat on my back or straight on my side. I was sleeved Tuesday.
  14. Only one of my incisions hurt. The other 4 don't even feel like they are there. My one that hurts has already decreased in pain. When do you expect to be released?
  15. Hot pads helped me a lot. They gave me a warm blanket for my back and front. I had it too, it does ease up and it hasn't been too bad. Walking also helps
  16. My BFF lost nearly 50# before I could tell. Even now periodically she looks thinner, other times not as much. It's weird.
  17. I still can't get over that I'm post op! I'm about 24 hours post op. things are going great. In the hospital. More cat naps than full on sleeping between bells and lights and nurses. I don't mind I feel quite rested. I have been told by at least 10 people that they can't believe I'm post op, that I don't look like I just had surgery. I was cleared to shakes and water this am, room temp, 1oz at a time. They are going down really easily. They weaned me off the PCA and have me on Oxycodone, Tramadol, Tylenol and Zofran. No nausea no vomiting. The occasional Hiccup which sucks. Catheter out and finally went pee, I was getting a bladder scan if I didn't do it soon. My surgeon said I am easily on track for a morning discharge.
  18. Were you sent home with pain meds? It might help to stagger so your narcotic and 2 hours later Tylenol. And 2 hours later (or whatever the time range is) your narcotic.
  19. I was sleeved yesterday around 2pm. I feel pretty good considering. My morphine PCA pump is my friend. I'm dehydrated and my urine is still dark but they are pumping me full of fluids. I like to walk but don't get far, Lots of burping when I'm up. More back pain than anything, not really sure what is up with that. Looking forward to starting fluids when I'm signed off later today.
  20. Finally made it. Surgery was scheduled for 1115 this am. The surgery before mine ran over by at least 2 hours. I hurt sometimes but I have a PCA pump that is keeping me happy. Been napping off and on and up to walk. I Love ice chips. I'm also typing everything with 1 eye open haha.
  21. Is it constant? Or come and go? Do you have your gallbladder? Have you ever had issues with your gall bladder? Your description makes me think gallbladder pain.
  22. Good luck! I leave for the hospital in 4.5 hours. Let us know how it goes!
  23. When you loose weight one of the first places to "shrink" is your liver. The thing is, it keeps shrinking. So If you are put on a pre op diet and screw up and cheat one time is your liver going to expand? Unlikely, however you can force your body to restart the process of what the diet is doing to you. The low calories and the low carbs is necessary to keep the process going and it wasn't that long ago that someone posted that their doctor said that even with her having lost weight AND being diligent on the pre op diet that her liver was still quite large. At my pre op seminar they said they had a patient that no matter the incision it was all liver. So are we human? Will we screw up? Maybe. It would be best to try to avoid it. Today is my last day of my pre op diet, was I perfect? No. I didn't follow word for word my my NUT said to eat. However I was quite diligent in maintaining the calories and carbs necessary. She wanted me to eat 2oz of lunch meat at lunch everyday and 3oz of lean protein at dinner everyday plus veggies etc. last night I made a beautiful salad and chose to save my meat for the day for my salad. I lost 10# in 9 days and was never hungry (from day 4 on)
