Straws!
I have avoided them, the funny thing is yesterday I got an iced tea from Sonic when I was out and about and never thought anything about it I just drank it. I didn't have any issues with gas etc because of it. I don't make it a habit because I was told not to but there are plenty of people on here who use them and were never given the restriction.

Surgeon Questions
Oh my gosh I would have been leery too! I asked out of curiosity and I agree I would be hesitant to go without one. Seems to set you up for more complications, such as strictures. My surgeon answered but just kind of shook his head when I asked. Told me that sometimes forums can give out too much information haha.

I am embarrassed
Your body.... your choice! You should NOT be embarrassed! I personally chose to tell very few (Best friends, parents, child) until insurance approval, once I had insurance approval I opened that circle a little wider (family, friends, school.... those who would be effected by my surgery or hurt that I didn't tell them) the day of surgery, high on morphine, laid up in the hospital, 4 hours after surgery... I came clean TO EVERYONE... I had created a Face Book page that I had posted many many notes on, the notes included everything from who my surgeon is, his education, every question I asked him, every book and website I had been on, what the surgery entails, and what brought me to bariatric surgery. So when I came clean I asked everyone to join that page, if they chose too, so I don't have to overwhelm my FB page with weight loss stuff if they aren't interested. I can not tell you the positive reactions I have received.... amazing amazing people I have in my life. Positive words of encouragement, I even found out a friend had bariatric surgery years ago and I had no clue. Is it meant for everyone? no, but I don't regret it. It took a lot, but you know what I needed to put myself out there. I have to hold myself accountable and I need to do this, this is it.... my chance to take my life over!

Foamy feeling
Do you take prilosec or anything like that? Another thing is do you notice this happens after you eat or drink too much?

HIV+ and VSG
It depends on where the medications are broken down and absorbed at. I can take both of my antidepressants and one is an extended release, without crushing etc... and they absorb the way they are supposed to. I am not familiar with the way those medications are broken down and absorbed, but my PA at my Bariatric Clinic is brilliant and had all the answers for me. Definitely a question for your surgeon, or their office! Good Luck!

When?
You will most definitely know. I was temporarily, and it was terrible. Very gassy, I mean you feel like your bowels are going to explode and diarrhea.

Surgeon Questions
- Insanity Program...18 days post surgery, is it to soon?
What is ur exercise restriction? I'm 4 weeks no pushing, pulling or lifting so I would not. They told me to keep it to walking and light cardio.- went to the LA County fair last night. oh my, all the FOOD...
4 days before surgery and 3 days before my final weigh in I went to a music festival in my town. I could not believe the crap they had, and I was on my pre op diet. Mind you my pre op diet was not as strict as some but I still had to be careful and there was NO screwing that up! I did good, I did eat but I chose a taco salad and held the shell one day and the second day I did a bread less Philly cheese steak. My cousin is trying to save up to open a food truck and I told him the only way he can is if I get to create a HEALTHY option dish for it!- Is it normal?
Everyone is different. I have been able to take 8oz of water or more in a sitting (over 5-10min) since 7 days post op. Shakes are slower, 11oz in an hour. I can't gulp (made the mistake once, it won't happen again) I tolerate all water temps. My surgeon and nutritionist and nurse seemed more pleased with my water intake than anything. Day 10 post op I took in 108oz of water and realized I was using water as food. I've stuck with 65oz since and between 30 min before, 60 after, 5 mini meals a day, 65 is pushing it.- lump sensation in my throat
I was having exactly the same problem. I thought it was related to thrush (that appeared about 10 days post op) but the thrush cleared up and the lump stayed. I decided to try an allergy pill and took a Zyrtec. The lump was gone by morning. I have taken it daily since and had nothing. I think I was having post nasal drip, after surgery I had a week of crazy runny noses and sneezing. Not sure if you take anything but it never hurts to give it a try. You can get generic for $.89 at Walmart. And just FYI I described my lump as having a cotton ball in my throat, I wanted to cough up something that wasn't there.- okay, now i'm just angry - psych eval failure1
I am sorry you are having to deal with this. I feel psychiatry is so objective. It is difficult for anyone person to absolutely know what is going on in someone else's head, unless you are that person. I too have dealt with Major depression (for nearly two years) and generalized anxiety. I had gone back to my physician in January when I felt a relapse coming on, that was the appt when she referred me for bariatric surgery. Don't give up! Persevere, good things come to those who wait. I wish I could make it better, but I can't! I do wish you all the luck in the world.- Halloween Weight loss Challenge
Sounds good to me! My goal is 24.5#- Surgery 3 weeks out?
I'm 2w 2d out and feel fine.- Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)
Yeahhhhhh, my physician wanted me to wait until December after graduation. I took a pretty big risk, and I knew it. I wasn't concerned about being ready for clinicals come time, with how crappy I have felt in my past few clinicals, I knew if I had any loss that the energy gained from that loss would help to make up for the decrease in energy from surgery. I honestly had to weigh my decision on risking having a complication and putting my nursing career on hold, but I had more of a fear of getting a job after graduation and than having surgery, a complication and loosing said job. I had, had surgery before and knew I bounced back pretty quick so I was hoping for a repeat. I have been very lucky in my recover, I have been up and going and getting my fluids in since day 4. Hitting protein goals, I am still getting tired mid afternoons but the days are getting easier. I also can't believe how much easier things are with 24# gone in the past 3.5 weeks. And the best part.... as much as I hate my lovely white scrubs.... They are SO much baggier :-)- August 2013 Roll Call
dandy ha ha.... That's auto correct for you!- when will i be able to swallow without getting Chocked
What size spoon are you using? I had issues with even Soup at first and switched to toddler spoons and been great since.- 2 weeks post today!
I'm stuck with walk for 4 weeks....- August 2013 Roll Call
- Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)
Well I am two weeks post op as of today. I went back to school last Thursday and it wiped me out. Thankfully I only have class once a week. I start my final clinical rotation in the NICU when I am 5 weeks post op. I have lost 34# since the start of this journey in January, with 24 in the past 24 days. Hoping to be down another 10-15 by the time I start my rotation. Ready to close the door on the nursing school journey, it has been blood sweat and tears to get here and I am ready to go into the next part of my life. I am just happy I can go into the next part of my journey a little healthier.- How much do you save on food?
I was just released to mush/fork soft foods yesterday. It has been a change getting used to the portion sizes. 1/4C is so tiny. My brain wants to load the plate... I made pasta-less manicotti last night. It was delicious and hit the spot, when I put it on my plate it was so tiny. I looked over at my dads plate and he had his normal portion, which would have been my portion just a few weeks ago, it was so strange.- "Consecutive" Question
My coordinator had me schedule between 3-4 weeks apart. So my first appt was late Jan and I went every 3-4 weeks after with my final appt being June 17th. I needed 6 months and my first appt counted as month 1.- blood abnormal
I would be more concerned about your surgeon having an issue with the anemia than anything. I have a girl in my support group who got up to her pre op diet and was called a couple days before surgery and her surgery was put on hold.- Two Week Check Up
- Two Week Check Up
Two weeks tomorrow, my appt was today. I have lost 24# since the start of my pre op diet on 8/17 and 14# since surgery. I am doing quite well, achieving my water goal daily since 5 days post op and having now achieved my protein goal for three days in a row. I was moved from full liquids to fork soft/mushy foods, where I will be for 10 weeks. My surgeon was complimentary on my current success and implored me to not become a slave to the scale and to not let a number put me on an emotional roller coaster. He reminded me that should I follow the guidelines that there is no way I will fail at meeting my weight loss goals. Interestingly enough since the start I have lost 34# and according to my surgeons office I have lost 17% of my excess weight. - Insanity Program...18 days post surgery, is it to soon?
