  1. I had 6 months of PCP supervised weight loss appointments and that took the longest. I had 3/4 of my appts done in the first 30-45 days after meeting the surgeon for the first time. I waited until the month before my last appointment to do everything else, mainly because I got lazy. It took a couple weeks at the most, to get most results. The longest was from my last appt to insurance submission, it took two weeks due to people out of the office etc, and 2 weeks from submission to approval, so 4 weeks from last appt to approval. I could have had my surgery earlier, as soon as a week from approval, but for school that didn't work. Than my surgeon went on vacation for 3 weeks ha ha. So It will be 5 weeks and 1 day from approval to surgery.
  2. HA HA HA.... sounds like me! I had no day time sleepiness, I was depressed and stressed. My physician recommended I get one, and I found out I was waking up 22 times an hour. I have struggled with my CPAP, I wear it nightly but I tend to take it off, unknowingly, in my sleep. When those times are short (after a couple hours) I can tell that day. The sleep study sucks, the CPAP sucks, but it really does help and I KNOW I won't need it all that much longer. I agree with BWaltD though, I have seen Respiratory in hospitals and if you are having apnea spells they will put a CPAP on you.
  3. Mine ordered lab work, EKG, and Upper GI. He also went through the remainder of my pre op expectations: Sleep study, psych evaluation, mandatory book, mandatory support group visit. That was 7 months ago and I am being sleeve in just about 18 days.... Time really does fly!
  4. You You just described it. When it first started I would take tylenol and just rock waiting for it to stop. I quickly realized I felt better if I made myself throw up (Not the best thing, but when you want to cut your insides out a little puke is worth it) At first it was just highly fatty foods that set it off, avocados, lots of cheese etc... In the end (before surgery) Water set it off. Mention it, I am sure they can ultrasound you and see if you have stones and just plan them both at the same time. I waited so long that when it finally was removed my gall bladder was not soft and pliable, it was hard and nearly gangrene, my surgery took nearly twice as long as it was supposed too, my surgeon said I had been sick a long time and that I had probably become so accustom to it that I had no idea.
  5. Well, my school is funny.... I have class one time a week and lab combined so I sit in seat for around 8-10 hours (depending on the class) once a week. I had it all planned out to where I wouldn't miss any class time, and my surgeon decided to take a vacation (It is OK, well rested surgeon = safer surgery) I am actually missing one class/lab, but I went to my direct advisor and explained what I was working towards, and why. I told her I was willing to postpone the surgery (yet reluctantly) until December. She actually gave me her blessing, told me not to worry about it. I have a couple classmates who are taking notes for me the day I do miss and will have 9 days between surgery and in seat class again. I will have five weeks before a clinical rotation, my surgeon has a four week restriction. The professor directly over the class was informed and also gave me her blessing, they both said that they could tell I have done my homework and they agree that for my health it is what is in the best interest of me. I am slightly nervous about being in seat 9 days later, but half the day I will be sitting and the other half is lab, but it is never highly physical. We shall see what my complaints are in a couple weeks!
  6. I know this is a serious post, but this made me giggle. I think I am going to remember that for the future.... "actually I have lost closer to an adult sized Labrador, although I have always been a fan of elephants!"
  7. Hi! Welcome! I will be sleeved 6 days after you! I start my pre op diet on the 17th. I am in nursing school, I graduate in December. I have my Advanced Med/Surg final tomorrow..... I couldn't read one more line! It is so important to me as a nurse to be a healthy role model for my patients. I am hoping to work with kids, or mother/baby. Looking forward to watching your journey!
  8. I had my gall bladder removed years ago, and I am not having surgery for a few weeks BUT I promise you if you are having issues, surgery is like heaven. I couldn't believe how much better I felt once that thing was gone! I suffered for years through attacks, when I finally ended up in the ER I was in "labor" with it for 6 hours before I got morphine on board to alleviate the pain, and as I told my surgeon I was in labor for 2.5 hours with my son, and brought home a baby and in labor for 6 hours with that thing and brought home nothing but a prescription for pain pills
  9. It took 2 weeks for my study to be read. I am a proud owner of a CPAP machine. We don't get along But we are trying.
  10. Yeah, much to my dismay. You would have thought I would have been excited but instead it made me so nervous. I was month 4 when I found out and I thought I will had another 3 months and all of a sudden it was 2 months and than I got nervous. Was I ready? Had I learned all I wanted to learn? What I prayed would come quick, sped up even faster. I am fine and actually I am having surgery when I hoped I would. Now I am thankful it was a month earlier because otherwise I would be having surgery in December, but with the month gone I can have it in August. (I am in school)
  11. Mine was 6mo and I thought because my first PCP appt was Jan that month 1 would be Feb. I was wrong. Mine was Jan thru June, so like your original thought. I suppose every surgeon could be different?
  12. I am a December RN graduate and I am being sleeved August 27th.
  13. Medical Waste, incinerator. I was going to ask my surgeon for a picture he he, I have a picture of my gall bladder I thought I could make an album
  14. If you can find a bariatric surgeon who will take you I would definitely say to try to see one of them. I have "heard" via the forums that some bariatric surgeons are resistant to seeing patients who were sleeved in Mexico, I have not had first hand experience with that though. I know my surgeon is quite open to seeing bariatric patients from other doctors and they have made it very clear that I will have a dual relationship with them and my PCP. My plan is to see my PCP for any medical issues including; my depression, my female stuff and coughs and colds. I will see my surgeon for anything related to my weight, weight loss, lab work, etc...
  15. That is how mine is. There are three different surgeons in the practice. I have the director of the program, so hopefully I am safe.... I hope yours works out! I think I would be really stressed out loosing my surgeon into the process.
  16. Looked at my surgery countdown earlier. I can't believe in just over 3 weeks (the 27th) that I'm having surgery. Eeeek. I went low carb today, start pre op diet on the 17th. I just wanted a jump start on things. Absolutely can't wait. I am excited, nervous, and terrified all at once.
  17. I have to agree with Mrs. FullerRN. There are so many things that can go wrong post op. I do understand your concern for finances, I personally would not be comfortable with it.
  18. I have a 20# weight limit for 4 weeks, but I have been using the same backpack on wheels for a couple years and they are so convenient!
  19. I guess it depends on a number of things. Insurance requirements: I had 6 months of PCP supervised Weight Loss appointments. Once I finished all of my requirements: PCP visits, psych appts (1 for testing, 1 for clearance and 1 more within 3 mo of surgery) Nutritionist, exercise physiologist, EKG, Upper GI, Sleep study x 2. It was submitted to my insurance, they generally don't schedule (through my clinic) until you are approved through insurance, but I had a special circumstance so they "penciled" me into a date I needed. So From my first appt until I knew my surgery date was around 6.5 months.
  20. My full liquid list includes: 1 C unsweetened soy milk or lactaid (6g protein) 1 C skim milk or 1% milk (8g P) 1C blended or strained low fat cream of chicken Soup made with skim milk (8g protein) 1 C low fat unsweetened Kefir (14g P) 1 C skim milk with 1 packed of Beneprotein (14g P) 1 C skim milk with 3 TBSP of non fat powdered milk (17g P) 1 C approved Protein drink 1C skim milk with 1 scoop protein powder Did you know if you add 3 TBSP of non fat powdered milk to ANY liquid that it boosts your protein by about 9g? So A cup of chicken broth might only have 1-3g of P but you mix that in and you have 10-12g of Protein and something savory vs sweet. The powdered milk will make the item cloudy, or creamy looking but it should have little effect on the flavor of the soup.
  21. How long has it been?
  22. I am terrified what I will get... I have been irregular for years. I have a weight where I immediately go irregular and when I am under it I am regular. It scares me that I am going to be bombarded with them just to make up for it
  23. I have a history of major depression and anxiety. I'm currently being treated for depression. I was open and honest and had no issues. My theory was, if they didn't feel I was mentally ready, than I wasn't mentally ready. Mine was a breeze.
  24. First off, I had my pre op appt yesterday. It was fantastic. Strangely enough I never made that appointment, they called on Tuesday to remind me of my appt and so I went. First I was weighed (of course) and I sat with the Physicians Assistant as she went over everything that will happen leading up to the surgery day.... In just under 25 days, but who is counting. I was given SIX prescriptions and told to fill them right away. They are.... TRANSDERM-SC: A patch I put behind my ear the night before surgery for nausea. Emend: A very strong anti emetic that I take three hours before surgery Oxycodone: For post op pain Omeprazole: aka Prilosec.... we all know what that is for Zofran: For post op nausea/vomiting and if this should fail.... Promethazine: Anti emetic in suppository form 15 days until pre op diet starts. So I had a dream last night, I dreamt that I was awake when they stapled my incisions. First off I know they don't staple the incisions, they don't even use steri strips, they use surgical glue. I woke up to my dog kicking me in the stomach with her poky nails.... I am starting to get quite nervous. Time is going so quickly, it is unreal. I am so looking forward to getting on the loosers bench!
