  1. That's where that monchichi monchichi came from. My dog has a monkey that he plays with, and when I play with him with it, I make the monkey dance and sing, Monkeke Monkeke, Monkeke Monkeke Monkeke. Now I know at least I'm not a true freak, it did come from somewhere.
  2. I thought I was a real rocker in the 80's. I was in high school through the best years. I put about 20+ color bandana's around both of my legs(over my jeans). I think it was the Motely Crue thing. Which by the way is still one of my favorite bands. Remember the group Chilawak(sp?) I think they had one hit...Gone Gone Girl /Haven't thought of them in years I was big on half shirts and pinstripe jeans with red high heels. Of course couldn't forget the red shirt and red bracelets up and down the arms. I actually have found my two favorite movies from the eighties and watch them every so often: Valley Girl and My Chauffer. Love it!!!
  3. I had the exact same problem. GO to "ticker stuff" in the intro's and follow to the tutorial that someone set up. It really helped me.
  4. I had the same problem. Go to "ticker stuff" in the intro and follow the link for the tutorial.:confused2:

  6. Congrats!!! I've still got 3 month before my surgery. I'm excited and a little fearful. My doctor wants me to do 2 weeks all liquids prior to my surgery
  7. I work in a warehouse and unload trucks all day. Lots of bending, lifting, walking etc. I'm going to take as long as I can. I am hoping for 3-4 weeks. I had my gallbladder removed about 4 years ago and they didn't want me lifting anything over 5 pounds for 3 weeks. So I'm aiming for 4, but that's me. Plus my warehouse is not air conditioned. So I don't want to overdue it in the heat.
  8. I;m going to remember that I really hate to throw up so I won't want to eat to excess. I don't feel like I eat all that much, at least at regular meal times. It's the bad stuff that I eat. I love candy!! Or course cookies, cakes and Pepsi are good too. On a work day, I do really good with my food until I get home from work then it's some of this and some of that. And since I'm single and live alone, it's easier to pick up something for dinner than it is to make it. It's usually not the best choices either. Tonite after I was done running around and going to the store, I had the following, king size 100 grand bar, 1 can pepsi, shortly after decided it was time for dinner and had 3 slices of left over pizza hut pepperoni pizza, then knowing that I was pretty full, I still had a brownie. I don't seem to stop and think. I am majorly full now. Also I feel terrible, like what an out of control person I was. SO that's how my eating is. But I figure it can only get better from here.
  9. I finally received a surgery date. The doctor here is so busy he is already booking into July. So my pre-op is July 10 and my surgery is July 24. They say I'll go home that day. I also have to do a 2 week liquid diet prior, with clear liquids the day before. Oh well, going to have to buckle down and do it. I think I can do this. I've never been on an all liquid diet before or any type of fast. In a book that I read on bariatric surgery(mainly gastric-bypass) the womans motto was "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels." That may be mine too. Just one day at a time. I can't wait to know that every summer, I can wear the shorts that I wore last year, that is unless there too big. I have never been able to wear the same summer or fall shorts/pants from season to season. :cursing:I have 5 sizes of shorts (all denim) that I have saved for the last 15 years. Just hoping that someday, I could wear them again. And now that time is finally arriving. Yaay me!!!:smile2:My surgery is scheduled exactly 1 year and 1 day after my first consultation. July seems like a long way away, but it'll probably fly by. Just thought I would share. Susan
  10. I have Aetna PPO. And I live In Independence Missouri. I was surprised that my insurance even covered it, most do not. They cover 90% after my $250 deductible. I read an article in our local paper stating that most insurance companies automatically tell you know thinking that you will give up. So it's always a good thing to keep submitting things and pressing them. Sometimes they get tired and just give in also. Good Luck to everybody. Susan:shades_smile:
  11. I started my journey last July/August.:confused2: I did the 3 month diet and exercise plan only to basically be turned down by my insurance company saying that I wasn't fat enough. So I added 3 more monthes of physician supervised diet and exercise and resubmitted everything, plus with a written appeal letter. My problem in the eyes of my insurance company is that besides being overweight, I have no major health problems like, diabetes, sleep apenea, high blood pressure etc. I'm really freakin healthy in that regard.:cursing: But I do have acid reflux/heartburn, pitting adema, knee surgery twice and thingsthat I pointed out were recognized by the National Health Institute. Today I got the call from my insurance company saying that they had taken another look at my file and said that they were approving my surgery for the Lap Band!!!:drool: They were going to contact my doctor and they would call me to get things scheduled. I'm am sooo excited, it's finally becoming a reality. Anyone that has been denied by there insurance company, try again.:scared2: I read that alot of insurance companys sometimes will say no just because(theyre vicious basta*ds)but because they think that alot of people will just except that and not press it. Hopefully next time I'm back on, I'll know more. YAAAY ME!!!!!!!!!
  12. Hi, I have Aetna PPO also. I'm in the final stages of my hoop jumping. I had to do a 3month diet and exercise program with my physician for my company to consider approving me. I have one more visit with the dtr. After that the insurance company through my lap-band dtrs. clinic send it in to my insurance. They say for me it can take anywhere from 4-12 weeks to get word back, yay or nay. All I know is that I hope their not Dicks and refuse me and make me have to work for their approval with appeals. But they do cover it 90% after my deductible of $250. So maybe there will be no problems. Good luck Susan:cool:
  13. It's going to depend on what your insurance needs to have done prior to them covering your surgery. Everybody's is different. I have a friend who is thinking about it and her doctor doesn't require any pre-dieting plan before she can have it done. And others I know have to do a diet and exercise regime(like mine) for 6 months. You just need to check with your insurance and see what they require.:whoo:
  14. Hi, I live in Independence Missouri, and am currently jumping through the hoops that my insurance company requires to be able to have the surgery.I weigh in at 256 pounds and need to be at 154 or lower to be considered healthy. I too am going to have Dr. Stephen Malley do mine. He told us in the seminar that for sickness like flu even if you do throw up, your band isn't going to slip. It's the people that keep eating the wrong thing and trying to max out there eating (not changing any of there bad habits)and are throwing up on a regular basis that there would be a slippage problem. I am on month two of a three month diet and exercise program with my physician. Then everything is sent off to the insurance company. And then I wait for final approval. Looks like my surgery won't be until the end or the first of the year. But, that's OK, it'll all be worth it in the end. As long as I start to look HOT by summer time. Susan:)
  15. Hi Pam Your story is very much like mine, except I'm still waiting to have my surgery done.:clap2: As a child and a teenager I was thin and athletic. Upon getting my driver's license I started to gain weight. I continued eating whatever I wanted although I wasn't getting the exercise like I used to. (on the basketball team and just bike riding everywhere)I remember my senior prom, I weighed 157 and was soo mad that I couldn't get down to 150. :mad:If I only knew than what I know now....I'm weighing in at 260 now and would kill to be 200. I think I can blame some of my weight gain on my marriage right out of high school. Or at least my low self esteem. :rain:Why do you never realize who some people are until after you've married them. Let's just say he was a controlling, emotionally, and verbally abusive jerk. I spent alot of time at home eating while he was out having fun, because it was clear that he needed "guy" time and I wasn't invitied. Finally, 6 years later I got a clue and told him I didn't think he should come home. ANYWAY>>>gotten off the subject.....I had a blood work up about 2 months ago-first ever that I can recall- and I'm very healthy! No high blood sugar, cholesterol. Even my good cholesterol is high. I'm a healthy person with the exception that i'm just about 100+ pounds overweight. Plus I was adopted so me or my parents have no idea what my medical history entales. Three years ago this coming March, my fiance left me after being together for the last 10 years. I think alot of it was my weight. I couldn't or didn't want to participate in alot of acitivities that we particiapted in regulary. I've been doing the diet thing for the last 20 years. I've been thinking about Lap band for the last year when finally I decided to pursue it. Now I'm 1&1/2 months from having my paperwork ready to be sent off to my insurance company. I can't wait!!!My lifestyle and the person that I feel that I am, needs to be healthy and look good. I hope that I don't need to have any type of skin removal, which is why I'm going to give working out my best, although I hate it like you do. But I am looking forward to a boob job. Never had much there to begin with and everything always drooped alittle anyway. Already see a psych. for the obvious reasons, and am really going to get into the finding out why I eat when I'm not hungry. I know that the Band isn't a miracle, you have to work the program. The band is just a tool to help you achieve your goals. Sorry to ramble on and on, but your blog inspired me to tell mine as I'm sure mine will inspire others to tell theirs. :bounce: Susan
  16. Hi, I have been through exactly what your going through now. Definately check with your insurance company. There are a few out there that don't require any type of preschedule prior to surgery. Al though I'm not sure who those are. I go see the dtr again, Sept. 19, this will be my 2nd of 3 month visit prior to sending in the info to the insurance company. Yes, it is taking longer than I originally planned, but I look it as,,,,I'm not going to want it any less after the first of the year, it'll happen when it happens. All I know is that I want to feel better in a bikini on the beach next summer. Hang in there.... Susan:cool:
  17. Hi tree, and tracyinks....I too am going through the hoop jumping routine. Luckily I only have to go through a 3 month dtr supervised plan for my insurance, along with a eval from a dietitican and a psych eval. So I'll be filing my info at the end of October, first of November. I feel closer to you two already, I live in Independence, Missouri, and I am going to Dr. Malley also. This site is great for support and idea's, but even cooler when you meet people that practically live right around the corner. Hope to talk to you all again......Susan:clap2:
  18. I'm the same way. Throwing up isn't even acceptable when I have the flu. I hate it. Thank god it doesn't happen very often. I'm still jumping through the insurance hoops before I can have my surgery. I just wanted to say that I'm glad you vented about the evening here. It was really funny. I'm sure there were alot of people that pictured themselves in your same situation. Maybe it would be a benefit to consider "would I want to throw this back up" with everything we ate?:sick
  19. I'm the same way. I always drink with my meals. When I was younger, I had a (psychological) problem swallowing food. It was like it would get stuck at the back of my throat and I would start to feel like I was choking and had to slam down my drink to make it go down. Thank god I don't have that problem anymore. One less thing to worry about.
  20. I was told through my insurance company that they covered 90% after my deductible. But right now I'm doing all the things that are required for my insurance company to approve me. Like a dtr superivsed diet, exercise and behaivor modification plan for 3 monthes. I have to have an eval from a dietician or a nutrionist. And a psych eval. No problem there, I'm already seeing on of those. So I'm hoping to get all that paperwork in by the end of October. So I've got a slight hold up on the whole procedure. But I'll definatley still want it no matter when I finally get the go ahead. Slow and steady wins the race.
  21. I went yesterday for my consult with the doctor. Of course, they weigh and measure your height too. Well, I was shocked to learn that after 20 years of thinking that I was 5' 7" I was only 5' 5.5". Now my BMI has jumped from 41 to 51.:omg: Now I feel fatter than I originally thought. I had blood work done about a month ago, and was pleasantly informed that I didn't have high blood pressure, high or bad cholesterol, high blood sugar or any thing negative. I'm just fat.:faint: So now I'm just waiting for the approval of my insurance company. I do know that my insurance company covers 90% after my deductible, I am really lucky, especially if they come back and say "Yes."
  22. Yeah, bariatric patients might not have to wait as long to lose the weight, but about 90% of them have to have the skin removal surgery because of all the overhang. Slower is better>
  23. Hey nurselaureli, I noticed you said you had been taking the protein whey bulletss. How are they? I just saw an add for them in my Oxygen magazine the other nite. I was thinking they might be something I can take to keep my protein up for when I have the surgury. (Hopefully soon). Are they any good? Thinking about trying some post surgury so I'll be headed in the right direction, for when it happens. Thanks Susan:faint:
  24. I hope I'm the same way, I've had 2 knee surgury's and my gallbladder taken 0ut. I feel as ;though I'm an old pro at this, but I still be nervous too.
  25. Found out about this site 2 days ago, and boy what a godsent! Been thinking about the lapband for the last 2 months. Waiting to get my blood work back from my GP then will call about setting up an appt. with dr. Thinking about going with Steven Malley in Kansas. He's the owner of the Malley surgical center in Overland Park, KS. I already watched a seminar online. I'm ready to get this thing started!! So glad your all out here to help. :biggrin1:
