  1. I have to say it - you are so freaking adorable! Congrats on the pants too, by the way.
  2. Johnson County here! It seems like there are a lot of people from Kansas around this site.
  3. those type of tacos can be heavy on the sour cream which makes them ultra soft once chewed up well so no, I don't really raise an eyebrow at that. if it were a good sized steak or something it might be different. Watch out for those slider foods.
  4. PDX is one of the best users on this site, consider yourself lucky.
  5. I tend to read things very literally over the threads unless there is some kind of huge red flag that it is sarcasm and that has caused some issues for me here. IMO, sarcasm doesn't translate well in this setting and should be avoided but thats just me and I have my own biases. Sometimes I do question people though because I'm not really here to hold hands and tell someone everything is going to be OK when they are really making every huge mistake in the book. I don't think validating people like that is really a good move, but after much headbutting I have learned to just pass those threads over. I'd rather give it zero attention then say something that blows it up to 12 pages of back and forth nastiness. I think more and more I am finding myself saving my time for people asking real questions on legitimate topics not "omgeee I hate 4 cheeseburgers tell me everything is fine" (not that it happens like that but you get my point)
  6. Once or twice a week depending on how things are going. Sometimes I like the progress report mid-week, especially if I feel like I need a wake-up call.
  7. It sounds as though you may be beating yourself up over non-issues. You said that you feel like you could have lost 50 pounds on any diet by now and guess what....? You could have. We ALL could have, and most of us have, more than once and for whatever the reasons it doesn't stick, and we continue to do what we do and gain it back plus some. The reason we got surgery is to jump off that crazy train and do something more permanent Permanent doesn't mean quick and easy though, unfortunately. Sometimes I wonder about what goes on or what gets said pre-op to people because I knew right from the get-go that regular food would be back on the menu at some point. The fact is that we can eat most things so we have to be careful. On a regular basis your diet should not consist of soft (mash it with a fork) type of stuff. You also shouldn't be having meats that are swimming in sauces, broths, gravies or cheese either. All of these things cause you to be able to consume more than is ideal for someone like us. If you are in a rut I suggest getting a costco membership or something like that - go shop somewhere different and look at other options besides whatever you've been having.
  8. I was being to general, what I should have said was that its unhelpful in terms of really helpful information. If it's a motivating factor then that is totally different. salt has such a huge effect one way or another on the scale for so many women that it scews things. Just because you had something salty doesnt mean you actually gained weight, but thats what it will look like.
  9. Oh yeah, its possible. I feel for the woman. I wish she would stop talking about it though because I feel like she is embarrassing herself, but that might be unfair of me to say. When you are clearly heavier and talking about how you lost this or that.... it strikes me as sad. BUT (disclaimer) I did not see this spot you are talking about so I didn't see for myself what you are talking about.
  10. Thats true I guess, I was being to general I suppose.
  11. All I remember about these things is that they were a b***h to dispense and that they used to be extremely expensive. They may have gone generic now though.
  12. There is so much misinformation about how our metabolic system really opperates and its hard to dispell because its actually sort of complicated. I don't understand everything there is to know, but I do know that it's not so fragile as people would have you think. I'm going to be taking a class on it in grad school. Can't wait.
  13. weighing daily is massivly unhelpful unless you are a CHF patient monitoring Fluid accumulation or something along those lines. People that weigh too often tend to get way to wrapped up in the details vs the big picture. Personally, I weigh in twice a week, but even once a week would probably be better but I like progress updates. Something everyone here needs to understand that a true gain of 7 pounds is approximately 24,500 extra calories. Did you eat 24,500 extra calories? Highly doubt it. Don't get caught up in this, it leads town a dark path of disordered thinking and disordered eating. You are seeing a fluid shift, and probably nothing more. Drink more Water and watch your salt. This will pass.
  14. This is actually a huge myth. Google starvation mode myth and spend a little bit of time reading if you have a few minutes. Very interesting. Also, the difference between the faster metabolism people and the slower (excluding extreme conditions) is like, 200 calories a day burnt.
  15. It will pass, no need to do anything crazy. You have lost a TON of weight in a short period of time. I don't like to compair but you seem to be quicker than most so you might just be up against a wall. The way I broke a multi-week stall was to purposely have a higher calorie few days. Don't fully understand why but it did throw me back into a weight loss mode again.
  16. first of all, you seem to be losing weight from the largest part of your body first which is your stomach so the weight loss may not be AS OBVIOUS as a person who had big old flaping arms and then suddenly a few weeks later has thin little chicken wings but there is a very obvious loss. I'm not one to ever really offer false comfort but I really don't feel like you have anything to worry about. There is a difference, and there will continue to be a difference.
  17. I am not certain that the brand really matters but I prefer a high capacity digital scale with NO memory. Sometimes the ones with a built in memory do not show the very small losses. I was never heavy enough that I HAD to buy a high capacity scale but they stand up to more wear and tear. This is the one I have. I know the decription is off, but it is a 400 pound capacity. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Taylor-Brushed-Stainless-High-Capacity-Weigtht-Scale-Model-7402/5740777
  18. i never stopped drinking coffee. I count the calories and the carbs of the creamer I use because I don't like it black but other than that I have continued on with my little habit.
  19. Yep. Thats because its multi level marketing (pyramid scheme) people who aren't selling them are FAR more objective about what type of product this. I will be the first to say that if you have some kind of event coming then fine, use it, but it will not last.
  20. I don't really agree with the person who said she is either uninformed or insecure. There are plenty of reasons why a person would be unhappy about an elective surgery. I would suggest you sit down with her and talk to her and address her specific issues one on one in a respectful manner. I put off this surgery for a year mostly due to respect for my husband and letting him warm up to the idea of what I was doing and to give him a chance to learn about it like I had been learning about it previously. Marriage is all about compromises. I'm not saying you should cancel your surgery but if you love your wife and your relationship is good otherwise, you should probably put in some serious work to let her know how much you want/need this.
  21. Meh, thats just one of those unfortunate things that happens in relationships. Are you evil? No. From his point of view is that insensitive to the fact that for the rest of the family life goes on and they have to eat? Probably. Just apologize and explain the context, it will blow over.
  22. I don't have any but I'll tell you what I do - I am not a fan of used scrubs so I have been going to walmart and buying two sets of navy scrubs and I do laundry every two days. It may be too much work for some people but thats how I save money right now. I just bought these 2x scrubs about three weeks ago and they are getting to the point that I have to be careful not to put too much in the pockets or I might lose them. EDIT: Oh and I forgot to say, I wear a white labcoat with the navy and always get tons of compliments on how professional I look, I will probably stick with this uniform even as I go down in sizes because its such a good look for me.
  23. Most of us who have had our weights soar up to these unreasonable numbers like you and I have some sort of metabolic issues to go along with our food issues. Most of us have been advised before hand that this will not be easy, natural, or anything like that. There is nothing natural about removing 85% of our stomach and the fight that comes with all that can be hell at times. What people fail to realize is that our body likes sameness, even if the "sameness" is 400 pounds. It will fight to hang onto the weight and to maintain that homeostasis no matter how unhealthy it was. Thats why most of us are still fighting for every pound, regardless of the fact that we have had surgery. If we still didn't have to fight for it this truly would be "the easy way out" but it isn't and we all know that.
