I Dont Hear Much About Dr. Almanza Anymore........
11pm? Yikes, how early was yours? I am a nurse so I am looking at this from a technical standpoint but how does that work? did he take a nap between surgeries? lol.... Having been in an OR hours on end I know that keeping sterile technique for 45 minutes is hard, I cannot imagine a marathon like that. I have no authority to accuse anyone of being unsafe, but that is questionable in my book for sure but for me its also all hearsay, I have no idea when they start or how true it is that someone was really being operated on at 11pm so who knows.

Need the honest truth, what are the negatives about the sleeve that you wish would have known beforehand.
Your lapband experience is amost identical to mine. I am getting a sleeve this month. I am more scared than most, and certainly less excited but its because I've been there before, I know what challenges likely face me, and I'm wiser for it. Obviously I have not HAD the sleeve yet so I can only say what I know now, but here is the way I look at it, not being head over heals about surgery is probably better than people who are so giddy they are calling their surgeons office every day. We are more realistic. I PURPOSELY search out people who have had terrible experiences with all types of weight loss surgeries, where as before I would have TOLD you that I did that, but in reality I glossed over it, feeling that tons of it was all self inflicted and like that wasn't going to happen to me. Here is what I can tell you - lapband has about the same success rate as Weight Watchers, had I known that I would have never done it. The sleeve has ABOUT the same weight loss as RNY patients, and better long term outcomes as far as complications go.

Typical rate of weight loss
Hey! No, not really. As a healthcare professional I can tell you that legitimately there is not a TON you can do about sagging skin. I will take care of it the way I will take care of the rest of my skin but the bottom line is that how well you skin pulls back in has almost everything to do with genetics. For me, I would rather have skin than fat and all the health problems associated with that. Tummy tucks are not as pricey as you might think they are so if you can save for that go ahead and save.

Typical rate of weight loss
Yeah my surgeon and I were talking about how sort of ridiculous it was to put a number like 60 or 70 percent of weight loss because I feel that except for at the very begining and the very end, its up to you how it goes. I do understand that there is a typical average, and thats just what that is.

Typical rate of weight loss
I don't know if this is considered a taboo question or not because I know that people very WIDELY on how fast or slow they lose weight but what is the general sort of expected rate of weight loss for the sleeve. Most of my research went into an RNY so i feel like I know that range pretty well but at the last-ish minute we decided to go with the sleeve and so now I am lacking details like this.

Why did you choose the sleeve after the band
I decided to have the sleeve instead of RNY after the band because I am young (24) and long term RNY complications are pretty high. I actually wanted an RNY but my surgeon kind of talked to me about the differences and basically stated that sleeve patients can do just as well as RNY patients in terms of weight lost. Now, if you want an RNY I won't talk you out of it, like I said, I was there too but keep your safety in mind. How old are you? How much do you have to lose? If you have more than 150 pounds I would go with the RNY probably.

- Post op diet question
Seems too soon- HELP ME! I'm three weeks out and ate a piece of toast!
- 6month requirement. Gaining more than losing.
A little tough love but im going to give it to you straight. You are playing with fire, and likely are putting yourself at great risk to be denied. If you are not doing well on their diet switch to a preop liquid/protein style of diet and stick to it like your life depends on it. Losing too much is one thing but gaining is almost certain denial.- Anyone have bcbs federal?
I have bcbs fed, was approved in 3 days- Desperate for answers
- I Dont Hear Much About Dr. Almanza Anymore........
Nah im just having good natured conversation, and your right, I would take someones opinion on a surgeon who was actually a patient over an 'almost' patient. I just dont like to see the conversation get shut down because I think there is validity anf something to be gain in learning why patients decide to switch too, especially when it's not a rare claim. Shes not the only person saying that. Not to say that its true or not because I have never been, but clearly somethibf is giving people that impression.- I Dont Hear Much About Dr. Almanza Anymore........
Thats great - I don't question your experience, but just keep in mind that it is impossible for things to have changed. As a nurse I am just putting it out there that we move people around all the time to accommodate for more patients, Just because in your experience you saw only 8 beds doesn't mean that absolutely hands down he NEVER does more than 8 people. I wasn't looking for a fight, I'm just saying, as someone who has read a LOT thats not an uncommon thing for his patients to say.- I Dont Hear Much About Dr. Almanza Anymore........
I dont really agree - I am a person who suffered with a sub par surgeon and sub par care years ago because people were too nice to say what they really thought. Now, years later and with WLS being much more popular the truth about the man who did me is out there on the internet because of sites like these and people stating how they really feel about things and I think its a good thing - if you had this doctor and you liked him thats equally awesome, but don't fault people stating why they have switched.- Only Down 9 Lbs
calm down, it is WAY too soon to be making predictions like this. You just got sliced and diced, chopped and put back together. If you think think your not going to have traumatic swelling, and Water retention your crazy! lol Also lest we not forget the IV fluids you had running!? Step away from the scale for a good two more weeks.- Nutritionist setting unrealistic goal for me?
That might take 6 months, it might take a year, it might take 18 months! I think putting a time on it like that sets you up to feel bad if you don't make it that quickly. We all like to think that since we had weight loss surgery its going to fly off us at lightening speed, and for some it does, but I know when I had lapband it was slllllooooooooooooow just like if I was doing weight watchers or something like that.- 40 Lbs In 6 Mnths...uuggghhh!
I ask how much you have to lose because you have to remember that a person who is 230 pounds is probably NOT going to lose as fast as a person who is 330 pounds.- 40 Lbs In 6 Mnths...uuggghhh!
It's possible to have a revision but you need to figure out why you are not losing first, and the answer is not just that you had the wrong surgery. It's still calories in and calories out to SOME extent, although i do understand that its complicated, the facts are still the facts. Are you tracking your calories daily? What do you stats look like? How much do you have to lose?- Dissappointed by surgeon's goal
There is nothing stopping you from getting to your own goal. Your doctor is always going to have different expectations than you. If you have you mind set on a certain weight, just do it. I would like to make it down to 119 pounds. My doctor has a goal of 165 for me. Thats ok. Will I be happy when I make it to 165? You bet your behind I will. Why 119? I don't know, just sounds nice.- I hate my medical group!
I here you, but let me just tell you, private hospitals that dont have you jump though all those damn hoops can have you approved and scheduled in a week. I got approval in three days, and scheduled for next month after one appointment.- Found My True Friends
Dude, could be be anymore in the same boat? I have no real friends and its been quite troubling for a long time but you know what? Thats OK, I am going through a time of personal growth and I have FOR SURE outgrown my friends. The best thing for me was to just not have any contact, I got rid of them off facebook, and installed a call blocker on my phone. I know it sounds extreme but hanging onto people like that in you life just makes it worse because you will always be let down. If they try to contact you just explain that you have been hurt, OR don't even respond at all. It was an amazing weight off my shoulders. - Post op diet question
