Possessed!!! so I am 10 days out post op and have been really trying to not weigh myself everyday but like anyone post op, im really excited and really cant wait to see the number on the scale. Soooo the first week, my scale says 297 and then three days later it says 292 then a day later it says 289 lbs. I just find all of this so hard to believe. Now I am following my post op 3 weeks of liquids diet and have been getting in as much Protein as possible and adding it to my watery strained Soups and Crystal lite etc so I do know that I should be loosing weight but I just cant believe its happening so fast. I mean like 2 pounds a day!!! Shut the front door! I am in denial. However, I can fit my clothes again and that's awesome! can I fit my "skinny" clothes yet, no but I was a size 24 and now I can fit my 18-20 size pants so that's nice.

Tears rolled down my cheeks in the dressing room when I went shopping today (fist time since surgery on 10/25). After having to try on a few medium shirts because the larges were too big and having to go back for size 12 jeans because I was swimming in the 14s, I couldn't em back. The first time I thought was maybe a fluke but after buying 3 medium shirts (some larges as well) and 3 size 12 jeans I had to just soak it in and realize that I haven't been this size since jr high. In just 9 weeks I've went from 18/20 and xl/xxl shirts to 12/14 and m/l shirts. It's so strange shopping in a store and having to skip the plus sizes and know that you don't have to try to squeeze into their biggest size and are able to shop the "normal" racks. Bring on 2013, I'm ready for my life back!

Goodnurseg reacted to clk in Got sleeved 12/17, Husband deployed.
Congrats on your sleeve. Dealing with body image is important and it's a struggle for almost all of the women here, I think. We get used to viewing ourselves a certain way and it's not easy to change that or to get used to the changes in the way other people treat us.
You will most assuredly look different in nine months, no question. I'm sure your husband will be surprised! My husband (also military) went TDY for several weeks right after I had my surgery and I was on my own with two year old twins. He was only gone a few weeks but when he got back he noticed a big difference. I didn't really see it because I was looking in the mirror every day. For him (and for everyone else that you don't see every day) the changes hit all at once and it does seem more drastic to them. My husband went on to our next assignment when I was less than two years out (I hit goal around 17 months) and it was amazing how much I changed in the three months we were apart. I lost two pant sizes and to him, I went from an average-sized girl to a skinny girl. It took me another four or five months to actually see myself that way, though.
I understand not having/wanting a great deal of help. Just be sure that if things do get challenging that you ask for it, because there is definitely a support system in place for the spouses. I, personally, did not tell many people about my surgery, so asking for help afterward wasn't something I wanted to do, anyway.
As for liquids, you really need to have a glass of drink near you at all times. If you're cleared to use a straw, you will get more liquids in using one. I never had any issues with using a straw but some doctors don't want their patients to use them for a while. If you're between meals, you should be sipping. Try room temp liquids as opposed to very cold ones. In the first few months they go down more easily. I had a problem with plain Water, of all things, but mixing in fruit drops or flavor of some sort made it possible to keep everything down.
Congrats on staying away from the scale. Too many freshly sleeved folks hop on the scale over and over again during the first six weeks post op, and then get frustrated when they see a very normal gain from the IV or a slower loss than they expected. Just allow your body to adjust and at some point later on, start to weigh more regularly to stay accountable. You cannot ever predict how your body will lose in any particular month and being a slave to the scale will drive you crazy.
    Best of luck,
    ~Cheri

I couldn't meet any of my goals, I just sipped all day. Sometimes a Protein Drink, mostly a Water with crystal light. Don't force yourself. Keep some Fluid next to you at night so if you wake up you can sip a little.
Your healing from major surgery, give your body time, this isn't how its going to be forever, I promise.
Focus on you and let yourself heal.
    It will get better

Wow. Where to begin? Sitting at home with the family waiting for the ball to drop. All of us are very sleepy. We made sleep 2013 in.
So far so good. I'm scared of stalls so I avoid weighing in. I get my work outs in and stick to my two ounces of mushy Protein three times a day. My clothes are much more loose. I will suck it up and weigh in tomorrow.
The book I ordered arrived today. Perfect timing! it's called Eating Well after Weight-loss surgery. I will begin reading it tomorrow.
I am looking forward to a healthier 2013.

I totally understand. I'm 4 weeks out and have the same experience. I no longer have the sick feeling because I measure out 2 ounces of food and eat no more than that. My friend said this is the mental part of the change. Teaching our minds that the amount we have is enough. My question is "how long does it take the stomach to heal?" I ordered the book Eating After Weight Loss Surgery. Hopefully, the recipes in the book will help provide tasty, Protein packed meals.

Goodnurseg reacted to ReduceReuseRecycle-Me! in After surgery...oh, the pain...the pain...
So, Thursday, 12/27, my son and I are sleeved! What a trip it is. We arrived at 6:00 a.m. They took me in first. The nice preop nurse set me up on my gurney and did my IV. The anesthesiologist came in and chatted and I had something to relax me then off to the OR. It was funny, but so true, they put the mask over my mouth and they said I would go to sleep and I said oh, yeah...then someone said Christine, you're all done. Uh, what just happened? If it wasn't for the pain in my chest (gas, ugh) I wouldn't have believed it, at that moment. Weird! Went right up to my room, which was nice, no waiting. So then hubby got to listen to my groans. The gas pain in the sternum was awful. No sorethroat of any kind, not even a hint of one, from intubation, I expected something. Spent a pain-filled (gas-filled) night. Walked three times before settling in for the night. Nothing to drink but I had some icewater and these spongey swabs to moisten my lips and mouth with. The morphine drip did nothing to help, really. We were given shots for blood thinners and an anti-inflammatory and omeprozole in the IV. So, finally morning came and we had our upper GIs to look for leakage. Nothing was seen so I guess that's good, but I did not handle it well. I thought I would faint and throw up standing at the machine, but didn't. So now we can have Water and I have some broth and Jello for lunch. Actually, they put us right on full liquids. No problem swallowing, but the gas moves around when the liquid hits my sleeve. Our surgeon came in and said the test looked good. Unfortunately, we do have drains in the middle of our stomachs. Doc said we are keeping them until Wednesday at the postop visit he will remove them then.
As the day goes on, my son is doing really well, but I decide I am going to stay another night. My son will go home and he gets to have the drain out, since it is leaking less than mine. Staying one more night made a big difference.
So far, knock on wood, it has not been a horrific experience, although you fear the worst going into it. Gas is still a problem, though I'm hopeful it will go away soon. I get really aggravated really easily. I have to direct the two able bodied persons in my house and I hate not being able to just do the things I have to tell them to do. I can't get a handle on how to get the Protein in when you can't really eat anything. I am just concentrating on liquid intake, with sugar-free pops and italian ices (nice) and broths, etc., and I am nursing a Protein shake, like, all day. The omeprazole is in capsule form and is small enough to just swallow, which I did, and had no problem with it going down or in the sleeve (small blessings).
Tonight, New Year's Eve, we're going to get chinese food, including my son and I; we will get some eggdrop or wonton or some similar Soup. It's nice to be able to do that and really appreciate and savor the food.
All in all, definitely could be worse. I hope all of our 27th co-sleevers have come through at least as well, if not better, and I hope we all have the best ever new year.
That's all for now. Catch up with ya later!
