GoldyGirl reacted to Phillip S in Sleeve to Bypass, NO NO NO?
Well I figured I would post an update, I have been officially converted from a sleeve to a bypass on Oct 31. The surgery went well however had to stay an extra night due to pain, but am doing great. I can say that it is the first time in a year that I have not had heartburn to deal with. It is so nice not to get heartburn when drinking Water or taking my Vitamins. I think that this may have been the right choice but we will defiantly see once I introduce real food again. I think that has been the hardest part that I have to go back to square one with liquid diet and progress through the stages but I am happy it is over with.

Yup freezing over here too! I was so cold that I had to research it a little. I've read a couple of things...yup we lost that insulation we are used to and the removal of the grehlin.
I noticed it takes me Alot more work to sweat as well.

I took the screening and it said I was positive for an ED which does not surprise me in the slightest. I feel like I'm the opposite of an anorexic. Is there a classification for a ED-NOS? That's me. Even post-sleeve I am preoccupied by food. The difference is that I log and pre-plan almost obsessively. I think I might have some control issues...LOL I do see a therapist BTW.

I've worked with a therapist for this same purpose because it was a big decision to have this surgery and I didnt' want to replace the emotional eating with another bad habit.Meditation helps me as well as Reiki music and practicing Reiki. I also surf the net, play in here and Pinterest. On weekends I tend to clean house, read find things that will keep me busy. Crafting is another good busy thing to do and it gets my Christmas gifts going

I've been thinking about this alot lately. After having some very stressful and anxiety provoking days at work all I wanted to do was curl up hide and eat. But I couldn't and found myself searching for something that would alter my mood the way food did. And three things came to mind... Shopping, smoking, or having a drink. I said no to both and instead forced myself to really think about my feelings. Poor coping mechanisms helped us gain weight. I think the key is to avoid starting these bad behaviors and setting up healthier ones. I know -easier said than done!

Good luck on your revision. Please keep us posted on how you are doing. I'm so scared that I will have to do this as well.
Praying all of your issue reslove and you are much better after the revision!

What are you allowed for your liquid pre-op? Every doc is different, did they give you a calorie count to stay under? Are you getting Protein in? If you can have it get some unflavored Protein Powder and add an extra scoop to one of your liquids it might help to fill you up. Go out of the room where they have the pizza, brush your teeth, drink lots of liquid and find something to keep yourself occupied. Let me know what you can have, I might have some ideas for you,

The previous posters have nicely summed it up.
I look at the sugar content more than the carbs. I eat Pure Protein bars which have 2 G sugar and 24G carbs. They do have 15 G sugar alcohol which to me means don't eat a lot of these or the gas will make you and everyone around you less than happy.
I have studied nutrition many years having been a body builder and found the NUT OK but not terrific. They also seldom take into account your activity level. After recovery I put my body on a permanent training regime, determining that I would be a lifelong athlete. I have stuck to that promise to myself and have NO problem keeping fat off. For an athlete, carbs are essential. fruit is good, vegetables are good, Protein is supreme. Sugars are the cutie pies that sneak in but do you little good. If too many show up you have problems. My stomach gets nausea when too much has been taken in. My gastric bypass wife has heart palpitations. That aversion therapy is quite effective. Carbs OK, sugars not. Fruits don't seem to have the same effect when eaten in moderation. Fruits also vary in sugar content.

I've NEVER been a foodie. Shopping, cooking and eating was always such a chore. As a result, I never wanted to invest the time in making good decisions about food, and ate whatever was on hand or easiest.
Processed food, eating times and portions were my downfall. I'm too lazy to bake, too cheap to buy soda, treats and junk food, and too indecisive to pick a restaurant. The result: Lots of Pasta, bean burritos, cheese toast, omelets, pizza and Amy's Kitchen products. (My wife is an ovo- lacto- pesce- vegetarian and I fell in line). Eating was always a bother -- in the way of doing something else -- so I stuffed it in mindlessly.
So the challenge for me is to CARE about what I'm putting in my mouth now!

I am with you!! I don't miss being able to eat half a pizza and then grabbing something sweet 30 min later! Don't get me wrong...I'm only 2 months out and this is the hardest thing I've ever done around eating better and getting healthy but I LOVE the results so far and I already feel 100% better than I did 2 months ago. 65lbs down, no BP meds, no diabetes, no knee and back pain....believe me, I'm NOT complaining about the "lack" of unhealthy foods!!!

I love not needing or wanting food, I don't want to eat pizza , candy, fries, subway, soda, Mexican, and all that stuff ever again, that's why I got so big in the 1st place. And yes I know years down the road I will be able to eat all that ( just not as much) but by then I hope and pray having the sleeve as this tool will help me stay away from them.

Keep reading about people who miss eating, who miss/crave certain foods, who wish they could eat more. I know that's true for some people and they are the ones who post. But I do believe that a lot of people are where I am.
    I really LIKE that I can't eat too much food.< /p>
Yes sometimes I wish I could have a bite of something unhealthy, but the desire passes in less than 3 seconds.
I really LIKE that I can go out to restaurants and focus on friendship, camaraderie and conversation and not worry about the food.
I really like not constantly having to think about food. That I only think of it when I'm hungry rather than all the time.
I really, really like that I no longer spend my waking hours wondering what diet, super food, eating plan I should try next to lose my weight.
I really enjoy the feeling that I am in control, rather than feeling the food controls me.
I don't think I'm in the minority. I think this is like complications. People who had tough recoveries post, people whose recoveries were simple don't post. But for the pre-ops, I think it may be important to see that not everyone is struggling with missing food.
Are you like me? Will you post your experience here so others can see?

GoldyGirl reacted to LoryLosesXS in Whats the deal with no coffee anyhow?
My dietician told me that it can dehydrate you. I believe it from the years of seeing a trainer before gaining weight. Our tummies are tiny and we need to stay hydrated. coffee does the opposite. It was hard for me to give up my addiction to caffeine. I went through a 3 day detox. I decided to buy some wonderful teas from Teavana that are caffeine free. Now it's the ritual of my morning hot tea. Plus it counts as liquid intake. :-)

I was at a luncheon and I had a lady comment on how much I've lost and then ask if I was losing on purpose. I laughed a bit and told her that I was absolutely losing it on purpose. She then paused, looked at me again and asked if I MEANT to lose weight. (B*tch, please. I was 264 pounds at 5'3". YES. I MEANT to lose weight.)
About ten minutes later, she interrupted my conversation to ask me AGAIN if I was intentionally losing weight. I looked at her, told her that I did NOT have cancer, I did not have a thyroid disorder, I did not have HIV, Addison's, Diabetes, etc. I told her I was sick and tired of being fat and I was LOSING WEIGHT ON PURPOSE and that she could reword her question in any way she wanted, my answer was not going to change.
Shut her up for the rest of the afternoon.
