Here is an informative booklet that you might find helpful. It gives guidelines on how to choose a Protein Shake amongst other things: http://www.ochsner.org/content/misc_files/_BARIATRIC_NUTRITION_BIBLE.pdf

Thank you for your very inspiring story. We don't often hear from people who are so far out, so thank you for proving that it is possible to keep the weight off long-term. My surgery is in 11 days and I cannot wait for this very important life change.

icon23 got a reaction from mrs.thang in starting my preop diet early
My surgery is also Jan. 17, but my pre-op diet is 2 weeks, so I'm on day 4. I know what you mean about a bad breakup, but it does get easier. The other things that I am doing to get ready are making sure that I have supplies for post-op, like Gas-X strips, Protein powders, stretch pants, Mio, broths, breath freshener, etc, and making a Pinterest board of food/recipes that it will be good for me to eat once I can eat solids again. I waited until today to start with the recipes--it might have been hard to look at all those pictures of food on the first few days of this pre-op diet.

I guess as we raise a generation that didn't allow winners and losers in gym class, or their homework to be graded in red ink.we will have more and more adults who are prone to massage ugly reality with b.s. terms and concepts into more tolerable events ,albeit fantasy ! Now don't get me going with our new currency minus the "in god we trust"

It's definite that I'm having surgery with Dr. Ortiz on Jan. 17 and I will try to remember to post an update on this thread afterwards.

icon23 got a reaction from missrose59 in January is coming fast! How is everyone feeling?
My surgery is Jan. 17 and I'm excited and impatient. Four weeks to go and it cannot get here fast enough!
Good luck to all of my fellow Jan. sleevers!

My surgery is 2 days after yours. I went shopping for my pre-op diet yesterday and I bought Protein Shakes, no sugar added clear juices, and broths mostly. I also bought some things for after surgery like liquid Tylenol, Gas-X strips, Powerade Zero, and Listerine breath strips (for ketosis breath), but I didn't want to stock up on too many food and drinks for after surgery just in case I can't tolerate them once my taste buds change.

Good luck! I'm on day 3, surgery on the 17th. It's not the worst thing, but it is challenging. You have each other for support to stay strong, so that's nice.

I understand how you feel about being consumed with thinking about this! I originally wasn't going to have surgery until March 22, but I was luckily able to move it up to Jan. 17 and if I hadn't, I probably would have literally gone crazy before then. As it is, I'm hardly sleeping and I'm on this site at all hours. I am so ready to have a new start that I want it yesterday. Now that my date is less than 2 weeks away, I am able to be a little calmer about it. Overall, I'd say it's worse than being a kid waiting for Christmas to come.
I wish I had good advice for you about your husband. Do you think it's the fact that he can't go or that he's worried about what else will change when your appearance changes? A lot of husbands/boyfriends seem to get insecure about their partners' weight loss, but maybe there is some way you can reassure him? Find out what his fears are and talk to him about why this is important to you and try to get him to understand that something so life-changing is bound to consume your thoughts? Luckily, my bf is more supportive and as the surgery date approaches, he has been asking more and more questions, so I am able to talk to him about it some, but I haven't told many people either, so this site is kind of my only outlet to talk about these feelings and thoughts I'm having about WLS.
I know it seems far away now, but your date will be here before you know it. In the meantime, maybe work on smoothing things over with your husband and do other things to help pass the time, like shop for Protein shakes and other things you'll need post-op. It's also a good idea to start an exercise regimen if you don't already have one. Best of luck to you!

icon23 got a reaction from amytug in I feel out of control
I started my pre-op diet today and I don't know if it was because of the holidays or what, but it was very hard for me to eat totally healthy or start that diet before today. If I recall correctly, it's estimated that we should lose between 10-15lbs on a 2 week pre-op diet, but the key is to not gain more before then (tricky, I know). What I am trying to say is that even if you don't start dieting until 2 weeks pre-op, if you can just maintain your weight until then, you should still have a net loss. Good luck!

Sounds like a nightmare to me. I may have one or 2 early on. I chalk it up to our subconscious fear of failure. As the weight continues to melt off those "dreams" have quickly turned into sexy dreams.

Happy birthday! I really like my immersion blender--easier cleanup than a full blender.

Me? I'm in Seattle, but like I said to SerendipityHappens, I'm happy to be sleeve buddies from afar! Even if we don't get it done at exactly the same time, it sounds like we're all going to have March in common, so we can experience the joys (and possible frustrations) of being newly sleeved at roughly the same time

icon23 got a reaction from gloriann in In need of some support.
I am very sorry for your loss. I lost my father 13 years ago and we were very close. I cannot say that the pain goes away, but it does lessen and become easier to cope over time. Through diet and exercise, I was at my healthiest adult weight at his funeral, but emotional eating afterwards undid all of that. I lost my dad due to his morbid obesity and I have promised myself that I do not want to go down the same path and he wouldn't want it for me either. I sincerely hope that you can find the strength through your pain to continue to make healthy food choices and get back to your exercise regimen, so that you can achieve what you set out to achieve when you were sleeved 9 weeks ago. Best of luck to you.
