  1. Hi Ashley - I had the sleeve in Dec 2012, had vomiting, acid reflux and gerd. I threw up vitamins and couldn't each much but crackers and stuff like that, diet was shot. I lost down to 186 and gained it all back. All of these issues have caused damage to my lower esophageal sphincter (it no longer closes) and my stomach lining as well as a hernia. I had tests run in August, September and October and I had Sleeve to bypass revision on Dec 3rd. I feel so much better!!! I am holding down food, vitamins and protein properly. I'm able to lay flat to sleep for the first time since my sleeve, I was at the point where I did not care if I lost another pound as long as the reflux/gerd and pain would go away...and it mostly has! 30 lbs down again to boot! My surgeon warned that I may lose slow or not at all, but I am still early into this new tummy. Hope you get a resolution and some relief.

  7. Oh dear Judy <<<HUGS>>> This was one of the most challenging times for me also fighting the battle with head hunger rearing its ugly HEAD! This WILL get better, but it WILL take time. Avoiding these triggers is a great option for now. :-) Today I had a conversation with my NUT and asked how long I would have to battle the 'head hunger' and/or food fight...and she said FOREVER, imagine my mouth drop... I keep telling myself that they only did surgery on my STOMACH not my brain/thoughts.... Keep your chin up! Here on VST we are rooting for you! Best of Luck! -Cassie

yayyyyyy for fitting! Sounds like a ton of fun. Glad you had a good time
  9. Goodness, I hope you get to feeling better soon. So they say you have an incision infection? Or is it internally that has to be drained? Did they place a drain while you were in the hospital?
  10. Oh one day I hope to get to the place you are today mentally...Its definitely not that road for me... Wishing you great success on your journey!
  11. First of all....Congrats on your surgery. Keep that sipping and walking up, it will help in the long run! Boy I can remember 4 days out...it was tough, 'eating' and drinking...I was released from hospital on full liquids, so eating consisted of cream soups and greek yogurt. You will do awesome. I do keep the atkins readi-made shakes for days when I cannot get my protein from food. Basically all the proteins that were good before surgery are either too thick or taste soo different now. Another ready to drink that I actually sort of don't mind are the EAS Advantage Carb Control shakes (17gm protein, 100ish calories).
  12. Hi Sleeve sista! :) Yes, I am on regular foods and am 'eating' most anything. My go to foods are 2% cottage cheese, low fat string cheese, eggs, deli turkey slices, canned tuna, fat free milk, oh and chicken. Those seem to be my staples. I've made a couple of the 'cupcake meals' from www.emilybites.com soo yummy As for fluids and water, i was doing just plain water with crystal light, but that got old very quick with the volume of water that we have to drink, and the fact that I only like certain flavors. I have tried just lemon juice of fresh lemon, and a pack of splenda and that is yummy. My go to right now is powerade zero and propel zero, as well as unsweet tea with splenda. I have tried very hard to get most if not all of my proteins directly from food, but sometimes I need to supplement. Also, things I've tried and have not tolerated well (even only a bite or two) are pizza, pasta, bread or carby and/or greasy foods. Not that I should be trying them, but they just don't go well with my sleevie. Keep in touch, I swear I need ALL the dang support I can get, as I don't have many friends
  13. Thanks!!! Yes, plain water seems to be the devil, unless ice cold, then it goes down very easy. Thank GOD for powerade zero and propel zero.
  14. December 5, 2012. The first day of the rest of my life. The last few days have been very dark days. I've been in a stall for a about 5 days now, and this is my second stall in 8 weeks. My highest weight was 242.2 and starting weight was 239.8. I've been stuck at 205 + or - 2-3 lbs. Today is my 8 week surgiversary. Today I am feeling much different than the few weeks, even the last 5 days. I have learned so much about my body as well as food, nutrition, and life in these last few weeks. Today I hit 100 oz of fluids. Prior to today I might have hit 50-60 on a good day. Today I hit my protein. Today I walked over 2 miles in under 40 minutes. Today I ran on the treadmill. I haven't 'ran' in almost 10 years... Today I made healthy choices. I have had sooo many struggles. EVERY SINGLE MEAL is a challenge. (anyone else?) Every meal is a new opportunity to choose the best food for my body. I am sooo far from perfect, and have struggled every single day. Today I put the scale away. Today I will focus on being healthy. Today I will focus on exercise and going forward. Today I will focus on being happy and living in the moment. My hunger has NOT gone away, however I can say that it is NOT the same kind of hunger as pre-surgery. Music has been my healing power. I hate plain water, and most protein shakes. I have learned that I am a strong woman, but I have a lot of dark demons that haunt me, I have many issues that I am always going to struggle with, but I am NOT going to let them beat me or get me down...I have done that for way too long. Thank GOODNESS for the amazing people who post on this website as they are and have been extremely supportive and I have learned so much from the many others who are taking a walk on this journey. I don't always post, but I read others posts and comments daily. Cheers to the rest of my healthy life!

I was also sleeved Dec 5th, and had many of the same worries that you do. I have found that I don't miss soda and such, now, I am able to take a decent swallow of clear fluids with no problems. I am on pureed/soft foods, and have tried many many things. If you are following what the doctor/NUT recommends and chew, chew, chew, I have found in my experience that I don't 'need' a drink with my food because my mouth has moistened it plenty to swallow...it wasn't easy the first two weeks to remember to stop drinking so I could actually try full liquids, but now I think I'm close to having the hang of that. It gets easier once you get further out and start listening to your body...which is definitely a part that I had turned off when binging... My doctor is a 'balanced' diet type, and only advises to get protein first, then veggies then carbs, and I find when I do that, I almost never have room for the carbs, and not always veggies even at this far out (2 oz at a time doesn't leave for much). It DOES get easier!!!! Keep your head up, your fears are totally normal at this stage, but it does eventually turn out just fine. Hugs and you will rock your sleeve!
  16. Many families have the 'non traditional' christmas! We spent ours in our pj's after a christmas breakfast (no dinner) and a Big Bang Theory/Movie marathon, with pizza takeout for the kids for supper! As long as its fun and enjoyable, no matter how you spend the day. Thanks for sharing your cute story. Surely will be one to remember.
  17. GOOD LUCK! Congrats and Prayers for a speedy recovery! We decembers will keep a warm spot on the losers bench for you!
  18. Just to update - Doc said I can continue taking my meds, INCLUDING the morning of surgery and that they will give me something at the hospital as well. The meds do not affect anesthesia Thank goodness, and wooo for functioning without anxiety (or at least not as much) haha
  19. Zazi and Pieganjane - Thanks for the feedback, wasn't able to get ahold of them yesterday and last night was just as aweful! So I'm definitely trying again to get ahold of office today for more info! I appreciate the support!
