lisa2job got a reaction from popsicle_20721 in When did you start to feel normal again?
As I am sure you already see on here everybody's experience is different.
Since you Cant tolerate protien drinks have you tried unflavored Protein powder to sprinkle on your food or to add for that extra punch of Protein to yorgurt or SF pudding????
Also its hard to say are you really hungry or is it head hunger, or even reflux that is allot like a hunger feeling. I am 5 months out and only eat about 2 oz of dense protien at a time, things like greek yogurt or slider type food I can eat more of. It took me a few months to find out what filled me up for longer periods and what was a slider food. So right now it is more a matter of finding your balance and dont give up.
Excercise, I would maybe start with walking and build my self up to the eliptical at 5 months out I just started resistant training and its a feat within its self to have enough energy to do that....
Things truely do get better, one baby step at a time.... You can do this !!!
Ps congrats on the weight loss

Came through the TT just fine at 7am and in the car to go home at 12:30. The actual surgery was 4hours long. I'm hurting real bad but still not one painkiller. Doc doesn't want me to take the painkillers until it's absolutely necessary. I take extra strength Tylenol and Celebrex. My back is killing me because I have to lay on it with neck flat on bed and no pillows until he removes the drain tubes. I can't wait to see the results! Thank you all for your support!

First of all 30 lbs in 7 weeks is great !! you are doing awesome !!! but below are the basics for you from my Doc, every Doc is different so others chime please
so here are the basic guide lines from my Doc
    1. at least 64 oz of Water daily
    2. Vitamins Daily
    3. no Water 30 min before or after eating
    4. eat Protein first at all meals .... I can usually eat about 2 oz at a meal , meals should take about 1/2 hour to 1 hour to finish so eat slowly and
    5. chew each bite 20 times . bites should be the size from a baby spoon I actually eat with a baby spoon....
    6. at least 60 grams of Protein daily
    7. after each bite wait a few minutes to see if you can recognize feeling full
once protein is consumed then you can try to eat maybe a small slice of fruit or veggies.
    8. you should not be able to eat more than 1/2 cup at any one sitting until after 6 or 8 months. unless eating a slider food ( i know some of mine ) yogurt is one of them
    9. I try to stay away from carbs but if I must satisfy my craving for crunch / carb I take 1/4 cup of Kashi go lean crunch ( its very very good ) and add it to my greek yogurt !! super yummy !! or 1/2 slice of toasted wheat bread
    10. do not graze have scheduled eating times
    example of mine
7am Breakfast , 11 am lunch, 3 snack, 6 dinner , 9 snack if needed for maxing my protein for the day or some prunes for other reasons
    11. join a support group it really really helps
    12. exercise daily
    hopefully this helps alittle.

    Hi
First off sorry for your loss, I know how hard it is .... So we totally have similar circumstances , I lost my mom due to cancer a few years back but when she was at her worst we could not care for her due to her weight issues , she ended up in a nursing home because Hospice didnt have any room for her at the time. She ended her days in a nursing home, while someone was there 24/7 I wish I could of made her happy and brought her home with us. Seeing the struggle she went through not being able to walk / or being able to have someone lift her for everyday necessary functions lit a fire in me. It took a few years for me to save up the money to have this surgery ( my insurance doesnt cover it ) ... I had surgery 9-6-12 so right before you and I have also lost 80 lbs.
just like you said we have come so far and this is only the beginning!! We can do this !!!

Almost every woman here experiences hair loss to some extent. My formerly thick and luxurious long hair took a pretty hard hit for a while there. With time, it does get better. I only had a two to three month window where I was really losing my hair. After that, it was simply keeping to a diet high in Protein (I aim for 90+ grams a day, using a shake to supplement) and simply waiting for regrowth.
The only time I really lose hair now is when I slack on my diet. For instance, I was completely unable to eat a reasonable diet a few months ago and was really missing the mark on my Protein intake. While it was nothing like in the beginning, I really did notice an increase in my shedding. Once I corrected the issue it stopped.
You can take all the supplements in the world but nobody can give you a definite answer why this happens. For some reason, between three and nine months post op, most women experience this. I can say that the drastic weight loss is a huge shock to our bodies. I don't know that this can always be tied to protein intake, either, as many women that experience this are careful to eat a protein-heavy diet.
Some women choose to cut their hair. I cut mine about five inches, still leaving it several inches past my shoulders. I did this not because I had to, but because I was getting very annoyed with my hair coating everything. Well, guess what? I cut my hair and all that happened was I got SHORTER hair all over everything! The Hair loss resolved just a few months later.
I used Nioxin and feel that it at least slowed the loss. I never reached a point where I experienced baldness or bald Patches. My hair was definitely thinner - a ponytail was about half the thickness as before. I took Biotin religiously for months but it did nothing for me except make me nauseous. Some women swear by it, though. When I eventually transitioned back to my usual Aveda products, I did not notice an increase in hair loss, so using the Nioxin temporarily did not have a negative impact on regrowth.
Some point between one and two years out I noticed my hair looked shiny and healthy again. Incorporate good fats into your diet as this will help your hair and skin, and eat plenty of protein. That's really all you can do. It will come back. As to whether or not to cut it, that's entirely up to you. My hair is back to it's former length and nobody would ever guess I had lost so much of it two years ago.
Good luck. I did argue to my husband that as a big girl, I was always able to count on shiny hair, healthy nails, gorgeous skin and of course, large breasts to make me feel good about myself. It was quite a shock to me to see my skin get so dry, my nails turn brittle, my hair start falling out and my poor ladies start to shrink into a shadow of their former selves. But it all comes back, it really does. Hang in there and do what you can but try not to let it make you crazy.

I feel the exact same way , in 3 months I have went from a size 26 to a 16 and when I look in the mirror I see that size 26 , I know I must be getting smaller because the tags on the clothes says so but when I see my reflexion I feel sooooo overweight still. I still have a super long way to go but being down 80 lbs I thought I would feel differently.

after loosing the Water weight I gained from the hospital I didn't loose anything for another 2 weeks . then woosh off 5lbs then a week later another 7 lbs. then stalled again for another 2 weeks then woosh 5 lbs again. I am 3.5 months out and down 80 lbs all together ... so the weight will come off !!
be patient and try to get more Protein and calories in every day. I was doing around 400 calories the first 3 weeks and then up'd it too 600 and now I am 800 calories most days , some days over and some days a little less...
stick with the plan and it will happen

lisa2job got a reaction from HoosierGirl in How much did you lose during your pre-op diet?
my doctor recomended pre op diet was only 2 weeks long, shakes x 3 a day and 1 small meal, had to stay under 800 calories a day. three days before surgery was full liquids.... but I had to loose before they would do surgery 10% of my body weight... so that was 30 lbs.... so I started cutting back 2 weeks before my pre op to make sure I was down 30 lbs before surgery. I lost 30 lbs before surgery. gained 15 yes 15 lbs during surgery. ( they pumped tons of Water into me due to not being able to use the bathroom on my own .... took over a week after surgery to loose all the water they pumped into me... )
surgery was 3.5 months ago and I am down 80 lbs

I am 3 months out and just got back from lunch with a work associate and even though I am 3 months out I still order way to much food...... Or maybe its I cant eat as much so no matter what I order I have to take 3/4 of it to go , which usually ends up getting thrown away since I don't like left overs.....
So for lunch I ordered a" Pho" salad and a fresh spring roll (which was only 2 pieces of shrimp and the rest was vegtables).... after eating the spring roll I was totally full and couldnt even touch my salad and meat , so I got that to go but will probably not eat it for dinner and throw it away. Its so much food it would take me 4 days to eat it all and that would be for every meal....... I love that my stomach is super small and I am loosing weight but I feel guilty like I am always wasting food espcially when I go out. Some places will let you order off the kids menu and other places won't , I found the fast food places that have the dollar menu are ok on portion size but terrible on fat content..... I work in sales and eat out allot since I am on the road driivng all day, sometimes I take my lunch with me but eating in your car when your driving all day isnt really appealing to me and gets very cramped.
    thanks for letting me rant...

    Hi ,
I haven't been on here lately but wanted to hop on and tell of my progress, I am 3 months out and all is good!! Made it through the dreaded Thanksgiving holiday and feeling marvelous. I am down 73 lbs as of Saturday Dec 1st , only have 100 more to go !!
This is what I have found in the last 3 months. This surgery is in no way like the Bypass, my sister had the bypass just a few weeks before me , and from what I can tell we are loosing at the same rate lb per lb, but she can eat more than me in one sitting but she can not eat the variety of foods that I can. I found that I can eat anything just not in the portions like before so now comes me having to use my will power not to eat things that have no nutritional value for me, I get my protien in 60-80 grams a day , Water way over 64 oz and even do get a little fruit by eating 4 prunes a day, they also have some other value as well ( lol ) , I don't however get too much in the way of veggies but I am hoping to work on that as I can eat more. I stay under 800 calories a day usually but if I go over I try not to really worry about it...
So for now the biggest struggle seems to be just head hunger and wanting to eat things even though I am not hungry... or eating meals too close together just because I am bored .... I find on the weekends I have a real issue with that. one thing I do know is this , I have really gotten to know myself better and I am allot stronger than I ever thought I would be.
Well thanks for listening and hope you all have a wonderful holiday season!!!
