  1. I just discovered a store called Gordman's. http://www.gordmans.com/ I had never heard of one but saw one the other day when I was out of town and walked through. LOTS of name brand items and seasonal things at very discounted prices.
  2. I'm 3.5 months out and tried my first orange this week. I cut it in fourths and ate one segment and had to stop. It wasn't going well. My surgeon cleared me for salad and fruit at 12 weeks.
  3. When your surgeon clears you to eat them.
  4. Your very early and will have periodic sensations of hunger at first. They decline a lot for most of us after several weeks.
  5. Are you about to start your period? Happens to me every time.
  6. My SO says ...OOOOO! Skinny winny!!!! Usually when I'm wearing something not so baggy. Its silly and it makes me smile.
  7. This thread has been very eye opening for me. At 5'3" my goal weight is 115 lbs. I don't know what that will look like, but I'm halfway there from my pre-op weight. Right now I weigh 163 and am just under "obese" and am now classified at the high end of "overweight" on a BMI chart. These weights that the 5'4" and 5'5' members are giving sound really high to me. Yes, I know everyone is different and don't carry their weight the same way, have different builds, etc. Still, this is really interesting and intrigues me. I'm not judging anyone at all. Its just that my perceptions have been jostled and I am pondering a few things, especially how I personally view what I think would be healthy or not healthy for me.
  8. I missed that one too. I thought that since most people actually have withdrawal headaches when they quit caffeine cold turkey, that it would fall under the classification of addictive.
  9. I had a disappointing 62. I am most surprised that the survey days caffeine does not have a diuretic effect on regular users and it did not mention calcium leaching.
  10. Check a BMI chart, too. One suggested estimate is 100 lbs for 5' tall, add 5 lbs for every inch over 5'. That would be 120 lbs for 5'4" and 125 lbs for 5'5".
  11. I'm 5'3" and was 219 pre op and 212 on my day of surgery 9/26/12. I've lost 56 or so lbs (16 weeks if you include the 2 weeks prior to surgery when I lost 7 lbs). I lost a lot at first and since have had a few stalls where I didn't lose for 2 weeks. I'm not sure if that is slow or typical for vsg patients or how that compares to other short people.
  12. Have some diluted fruit juice instead. Or water with lemon or lime. You don't ever "have" to have alcohol to celebrate anything.
  13. I thought I was going to miss soda..really badly. But I don't. Not one bit. Now beer................I knew prior to the surgery that I would be giving it up. That is the only thing I have dripped a symbolic tear for.
  14. You are changing more than others. Maybe their behavior is a direct result of how you are expressing the changes taking place within you, as well as the physical changes taking place in your body.
  15. I haven't eaten popcorn and don't really care to. I have had Cereal with milk one time and am not very interested in it anymore. Sometimes I do have bread. I had crackers at around 3 weeks. I had bites of bread at around 5 weeks. Bread doesn't bother me, but I don't eat a lot of it at one time and I don't eat it very often. I do keep a little bag of Goldfish cheese crackers around if I get a craving for something like that, but it usually only takes a few of them to satisfy that craving. I have also had rice and potatoes a few times. Potatoes taste good but don't have enough nutritional value to allow them much space in my stomach. Rice even less so. We really need to select more nutrient dense foods and quality Proteins. We eat such a small volume of food, we can't afford to put much crap into our systems.
  16. So I've been skipping through the daisies for the past few weeks. I have been very fortunate outside of the typical things just about everyone experiences (periodic hunger, periodic blues, hair loss, stalls, gas, etc.). I didn't mind drinking the shakes when that is what I was supposed to do (even if I didn't like the taste). I haven't had any issues with food. I travel a lot and eat out all of the time and have posted a lot of nutritional information and some "go to" items that I prefer from various restaurants in different threads. I eat Vietnamese, Indian, seafood, Soups, vegetarian options, meats with no problems. But tonight I have had a totally new experience and I'm laughing at myself about it. I really thought that, at 14 weeks, I was in the clear for a lot of things because I have been doing so well. Instead of eating out YET AGAIN while working out of town, I decided to go to a Whole Foods grocery. For those of you who do not have one nearby: http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/whole-foods-market All of their produce, cheeses, meats, and zillions of organic food items, crazy variety of yogurts, prepared foods and other products can really entice you. I was drawn to the amazing salad bar. I picked up a small container and proceded to fill it with tiny bits of red cabbage, edamame, couscous, feta cheese, chickpeas, cucumbers, tofu, beets, and sprinkled quinoa over the top for some extra Protein. I also picked up a small container of wild caught salmon salad that had celery, dill and very little (almost 0) mayonnaise. No, I didn't throw up, but I am totally cleaned out from stem to stern. It wasn't holiday candy, or restaurant food that did me in. It wasn't dairy or bread. It was healthy foods from a health food store. I'm guessing Fiber? I'm irregular anyway, so this was actually a blessing in disguise, kinda.... I'm thinking back on the whole ...."introduce new foods slowly" idea. Yup. There is a reason for that recommendation. Tomorrow's lunch - Greek yogurt.
  17. My surgeon says exercise should be viewed as a prescription medication that your body must have. It isn't an option. Some days you may not want to, but you do it anyway.
  18. Hmm...maybe we can all start trying out some brooding, sexy poses and artfully pouting faces.
  19. You can do some searches on this topic at the top of the site. I think that this question gets asked 2-4 times per week. You can search for other topics as well. I had surgery on a Wednesday and was back at work on a Monday.
  20. I switched at the last minute from band to sleeve with no additional anything. But then I'm self pay.
  21. I don't think it is possible for you to get rid of fat only in one part of your body. It comes from all over the body. Heredity and your specific weight distribution are unique to you. For me, it won't matter how much I lose, I will still have a little belly. My mom was tiny at around 5'4" and 104 lbs when she delivered me and she had a little belly. You can build muscle and tone by working out with weights, though.
  22. I'm trying hard to stay away from sweets since those were the biggest part of my food addiction. At night if I want something sweet I have a diet hot chocolate or herbal tea with Truvia. It is satisfying and helps get in more liquids, too.
  23. There are some good points made so far about misunderstanding what your body is telling you. You really do have to relearn some things. Two things that I had to work through were head hunger and then the actual feeling of hunger. I had to define head hunger for me and what the triggers were, then be very aware when that happened. Then those times that I did actually feel hunger, I practiced not feeding it and desensitizing myself to it. Today I actually gave myself a green light to eat a lot more than I usually do, and even add in a few treats. The last week or two I have just not wanted to eat at all and I felt like my body might need to be shocked.
