single...solitary...alone...*cold, so cold* BAHAHA! (yes I laugh at myself all the time) I have always been single. I'm ok with it most of the time...and then another friend gets engaged....or married....or has a baby....and then I start to panic and think I'm gonna be alone FOREVER! They are dropping like flies around me! LOL. I don't think that WLS is a magic solution to what I call "singledom" but you can't really deny that when you look and feel more attractive others will be increasingly attracted to you as well!! btw I'm 25 from South Texas!

What about fat transfer? its where they take fat from one area and put it some place else.
Maybe that could be an option?

you know what.....it's nothing more than ignorance....people that have resorted to wls do so not bc they are lazy...but just the opposite...lazy would be doing nothing....rather...resorting to have wls takes much courage..strength...and fortitude...qualities thtare rarely found. It has been my experience that many who condescend wls patients do so bc they lack the courage to do it themselves.
Furthermore...i have found that just bc 2 people weigh the same does not mean that they both have the same underlying issues thatgot them to that wt and as such..just bc their wt is the same does not mean that they r both appropriate psych candidates for surgery. For instance--thereare many my size who are that size bc they culturally enjoy big meals with family..cooking...and all that goes with the family tradition....i know many who tell me they havent even tried to diet since they were teens and now theyre in their 40s--50s....
in fact... my friend growing up was never overwt--i always was...she has never dieted in her life---i have never not been on a diet....we go back to when we were 15...she would go back and forth bwn being in a bikini to being just over that......i woudl diet like crazy and struggle every day of my life just t maintain......anyway...flash over to now and shes approx 350lbs.....how it happened i really dont know but it seemed overnight---anyway...guess what....shes never once even thought about going on a diet....when i try and gently nudge her to watch what she eats for her healthy she couldn't be bothered...she says that shes going to continue to eat what she wants and the wt will be whatever its meant to be..it surprisingly doesnt see to affect her at all and she never once complains about it and never once in her life has she exercised ...yet i average 1-2 hrs a day of exercise 7 days a week for most of my life....as such......even though i weigh about 120lbs less than her...I am a wls surgery candidate...and in my opinion...she is not. or would she ever even consider wls).
Lastly...I was reading a medical journal recently that said that wls will no longer be called wls inteh s=future and instead it will have a more fitting name of 'metabolic surgery' and it said that many hospitals have already changed their units name to accomodate for the shift in thinking and teh realization of how sugery can drastically help diebetes patients. WHether many realize it or not---wls is mostly about teh hormonal shift (ghrenlin removal/reduction) than anything else....and in teh fiture the article said their will be mediaction that will 'block ghrenlin' production much like insulin is given to control diabetes.
So in conclusion....i stand ny what i originally said...it's nothing ore than ignorance....and its quite sad that it is teh last bastion of acceptable discrimination inyhis country......but you know what....go ahead and let those nurses 'die fat' as they said.....you'll be out shopping for your skinny jeans and too busy to even notice....

    Hey Group,
I am in a fresh relationship but it is difficult. I don't think its going to make it past tomorrow actually.. I am pre-sleeve and due to insurance changes, had to postpone my surgery date and pay for it myself.
It has been quite depressing and I know that is affecting my relationship. I was never really ashamed of my body but for some reason, I don't feel "good enough". If plans change or are cancelled, I immediately think that he found someone better (slimmer).
Anywhoo (my favorite non-existing word), my doors are always open if anyone wants to chat.

    1) At rest, muscle burns 6 calories a day, while fat uses 2.
    2) Being even slightly dehydrated will slow down your metabolism. Stdies have shown that people who drink 64 oz of Water a day burn more calories that people that burn 48.
3)Energy drinks DO work, but you have to carefully monitor your heart rate and it is of no benefit if you lose sleep, since sleep is much more important.
    4) small, healthy Snacks in 3-4 hour intervals will keep your metabolism going better than big meals with nothing in between, and skipping meals decreases metabolism more.
5)Spicy food, specifically those flavored with chilis, speed up metabolim, but it is unsure how much.
    6) It takes more calories to burn off lean animal based protien than it does to burn off grain (and most other sources of) carbohydrates.

Hey how are the September sleeves doing?
I am guessing we probably don't come back here as much now a days....life moves on so to speak .
I am doing great, I remember pre-op being so worried at what life would be like post op,as much of my life centered around food. God if I only knew that all that worry was not worth it.
    Life feels so normal now.
I have been traveling for 2 months now, so my at home reality is a bit skewed...but at home my day almost always includes a work out, it helps me get through the day, ESP at work. I am lucky my work fully endorses a healthy lifestyle and has its own gym on site, complete with teainers. We are all encouraged to use it, so will usually go around 10,meetings permitting and will not be the only one there.
My confidence level has taken a huge step forward. Something clicked like 3 weeks ago and now I seem to be just oozing it more. I go out now and seem to always have someone flirting with me which is nice, well nice for the ego. I am waiting to see how this may translate in my home environment.
I am doing things now that I never thought I would and have found i am an adrenaline junkie...or danger prone as my friend called me, I seem to also injure myself doing these endeavors, but just think how much worse any of them would be if I still carried the extra weight.
On the numbers side, I think I am somewhere around 160 pounds lost, I haven't weighed in a while so it may be more or less,I am thinking less at the moment. I will weigh when I get home and assess the damage that 2.5monhs of traveling and having fun has done...tho my clothes all feel the same.
I have gone from a 26/28 clothing to anything from a 10/12/14 depending on the make. I now own a piece of clothing from almost every designer....yet still love my $2 cut offs.
Hope you are all doing well...feel free to share your stories

Last year I went through the process for VSG. Though I did not meet the minimum requirements my PCP, and other specialists felt that it would be beneficial for me to have Based on my other medical issues. I was not approved and I lost my appeal.
I gave up and decided I would lose weight on my own, I gained 11 pounds It is a long and boring story but in the end, my body is working against me and having this "tool" could work wonders for me and greatly increase the quality of my life.
After gaining the 11 pounds I decided to see a new surgeon. Part of the issue last year was the coordinator in the surgeons office said there was nothing they could do to help with the appeal. I had several conversations with her which were fruitless, I made several requests to speak with the surgeon or get an appointment with him and I was denied, this is where I gave up.
I did all the pre-op tests again and saw the new surgeon for the second time this week. At this point he had time to review my medical records and become aquainted with my other diseases. He very sincerely looked at me and while shaking his head said there is no reason the insurance should not approve this his exact quote was " you should not have to suffer every day when there is something I can do to help you, your body has been through so much".
He is ready to fight for me. This is not to say that I will get approved by the insurance, but it has given me some reason for hope

I'm in Houston, Texas....4 almost 5 months post op....I finally feel like dating again after a 3 year hiatis from it....mainly because of school, and I'm still in grad school for another 1.5 years, so I'll have to find someone who is understanding of the fact that I dream that I am working to make into a reality...
And to answer everyone's question, yes I had surgery while in school....didnt take not one day off....I churned right on through....reading my books on my kindle while hooked to a pain pump, my doc wanted me to relax, and I told him "I'm on a mission, cant relax now" he just said either I relax or my body will make it.....and he was right, my body made me...but I still got my work done....lol

Okay..i'm almost 33 and have never had a BF and when i was talking with someone it went weird too after I told him..lol.. I dont think its horrible - i just think as you are working thru your weight loss you're gonna have to work thru dating until you find someone who is okay or understands there is not always something wrong with a person who has not been in a relationship. I see it like its not me that has the problem..its them! Sorry if i havent dated every man i've met..oh well!! LOL Keep telling the truth! Meet people, make friends, date, hang out, enjoy the life you are creating for yourself!

    * Is the part of the stomach that is removed also tested for leaks?
    * What size bougie do you use to measure the “sleeve?” How do you determine the size of the sleeve?
    * Can the sleeve actually be stretched by eating/drinking too much? On occassion vs regularly? Why? How to prevent?
    * What is the biggest factor in failure after this surgery?
    * What is the biggest factor in succeeding with this surgery?
    * What is your mortality rate? Of this, what % is attributable to the surgery itself and what % was from pre-existing conditions?
    * What type of post-surgery support do you offer? Is there any additional cost for the support?
    * Where were you trained? Are you board certified? How long have you done bariatric surgeries and what other types of surgeries have you done/do you do?

    * At what hospital will my surgery be performed?
    * Who will be my anesthesiologist? What is his/her experience, training, etc.?
    * Why do you believe you are the best surgeon to perform my surgery? What differentiates you/your practice from others in the D/FW area?
    * When can I return to work post-surgery? What will my limitations be and for how long?
    * Based on your experience, in this practice, what % of excess weight does your average patient lose with the sleeve? How long is the loss maintained? What can I do to increase my success?
    * Why do you feel that your pre/post surgery nutrition guidelines are the best? Have you tailored your plans for sleeve patients or do you use the same plan for sleeve, bypass & lapband? If the same, why?
    * Do your patients have a support group on FB or via other social media? Other than the formal support group/monthly classes, do your patients have informal support groups? How do I join these groups?
    * How much interaction should I expect with you vs. with your staff post-surgery? If mostly your staff, what is their training and experience with bariatric WLS patients? Will I typically see the same staff members on my post-op check-ups or will it vary?
    * Are your staff members, such as nutritionist, available for one-on-one consultations? If so, what are the charges, if any?
    * What are the requirements to become a "Center of Excellence?" (does this designation really mean anything?)
    * If I decide to go the self-pay route, is there coverage available for potential complications? If so, where do I get it? How much is it? Will the surgery center/hospital/other docs accept it 100% or could I potentially have additional out-of-pocket expenses?
    * I've read that most obese patients over 50 have hiatal hernias. According to your website, those are repaired during the sleeve surgery. If I'm self-pay, how is that handled? What if the costs associated with the hernia repair aren't fully covered by my insurance or what if I haven't meet my deductible?
    * Are there questions I should have asked but didn't?
    * What would you like to share with me?

This is what I ate from that. It took 35 min to eat.
