laura-ven, I hope my experience is like yours...I am 51 (yikes) and 3 months post-op...I definitely have lost weight in my face and neck, and I definitely think it makes me look even older than I am...I hope by the time I am a year out, I "bounce" back as well...but, like you and others, the health benefits will outweigh the looking older

an update from me--now at about 6 weeks out...at about 2 weeks out I started taking half of a metformin pill each morning...since then, my glucose levels have been very good; and in fact a few times it has dropped almost too low...I am tempted to try to go again without meds, since now my average level is way lower than the 150 my dr told me to stay under...what do y'all think? my alternative is to wait until I see my PCP for my six-month checkup in August before I doing anything differently

tigerbelle got a reaction from TwinsMama in do you feel BETTER? HOW?
here is my feedback, for what it's worth....pre-op I was 268 lbs at 5'2"...I have lost about 43 pounds in a little over 3 months...I cannot say that physically I feel much different yet...I haven't lost enough pounds to make a true impact for me as to how I feel physically...however, emotionally I feel good about losing some pounds, and I just had lab work that came back very much improved from pre-surgery--my PCP and I were very pleased...so I also feel emotionally better that my lab tests have improved....as for overall emotional health, I am still having issues adjusting to the change in lifestyle and not having the emotional crutch of my comfort food--that is still a work in progress, and I am working with a therapist on that...as for being tired, I am still very low energy, because of the low daily calorie count and lack of carbs in my diet...my nutritionist and PCP both say this is still normal at my stage, because my body is still adjusting...........mokee: to respond to your post specifically; my experience has been very similar; I don't have near the issue with incontinence as I did before nor do I have to urinate as frequently...I am also unsure as to the why of that, since I can hardly imagine that just losing 43 lbs would make that much of a difference on my bladder, especially since I am still quite obese and over 200 lbs.

Can you get a 2nd opinion from another Dr? Maybe he's done more bands and that's where his comfort lies?

let's see...keep in mind I am only two months out myself...the bad is that this is a major lifestyle adjustment, and no matter what you are going to have many times of temptation (at parties, during meals with friends and family, etc.)...even though everyone will keep telling you during the first few weeks to hang in there, drinking those gross Protein Shakes and doing without solid food is going to be tough...you will also have low energy and possibly some pain...I was fortunate not to have any surgical related pain after coming home and very little gas pain...also, don't expect for sure that you won't feel both "head" hunger and real hunger; while many VSGers don't experience true hunger post-surgery (because of lack of grehlin hormone), I have not been one of those lucky ones--I still experience true hunger at times...I have been very fortunate to have no post-op complications (such as dehydration, infection, or stricture), so I cannot address that "bad side"...one more thing that I am currently experiencing for the second time is a weight loss stall; I wouldn't say that is an overall "bad" thing since it is normal and does come to an end, but it can be very demoralizing and frustrating from an emotional--if not physical--perspective
good luck, and I applaud you for bravely facing the possible "bad" side
