  1. Most of the breaking down of food happens in your small intestine...Your stomach is basically a sack that keeps it until your brain tells your body that it is full. the flap at the bottom opens up if the food is dense and goes to the small intestine and after finished there goes to the big intestine where that takes what little is left out of what you ate. One of the reasons that we don't drink when we eat is because you can actually eat more then you should...by not allowing the flap to close over to get to the next point of digestion. It also dilutes the food so you don't get the complete value of what you eat.... Your body is still going to get calories to break down but not properly....Eating cake is going to be processed like any other carb where ever it ends up.. Most of the reason is because it fills up needed space for denser foods and does not allow the stomach to do its job as well either.....K
  2. He is an eloquent writer and so is the Madam. Maybe they can help me with my grad papers this coming fall Pish posh!!!!!!!!!! That's all I have to say about it!
  3. You look wonderful....I think it is just going to get better and better..........Hold tight it is going to be a bumpy but worth while ride!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Gman said it all better then I did!!!!!!!! Oh damn
  5. I looked up some of my earlier posts...You know before I had the surgery and did all the research and was never going to make a mistake kind of posts...i cringe when I read them....oops.. Now that I am 15 months out and am living in this new body and in the real world..I see things a bit different. Does not mean that i expect people to do things my way..Although it would be nice...tongue in cheek here okay!!!!!! LOL Anyway the more you work at this the more you see how much work you have to do to change the person within...That is a boatload of work to do..And as much as I work on it I have days when I really fall flat on my face. I have learned some valuable information from this forum. There have been times when I have said the wrong thing ...can't imagine it but it is possible..tongue in cheek again..lol The point is when we start this and even in the beginning we are so excited and zealous that we over compensate by trying to say all the right things because we are trying to tell you the things we have learned and experienced ourselves...Right, we just want to help each other. Example sure!!!!! Great, nice, wonderful, true.. No! No one is perfect and will do this perfectly..But there is a lot of good stuff on here and people are just trying to encourage at times...Others no, but they are the ones that assume that we don't know that somewhere they have struggled or will..... Me I think it is a journey, train wreck, trip, up and down, two steps backwards, one forward and everything in between. Don't give up..Keep going day after day....Changing what is inside will change outside and maybe just maybe you can help someone else....That is a privilege to do that..I think that anyway!!!!!!! Just like you can take offence at what I say the same can happen to you...Some...most try to help. Whether they have the skill to come off gentle and soothing or like a run away train...We are in it to win it...Take it with a ton of salt...No one really wants to hurt anyone...I know I don't.... The day I stop helping someone, anyone on here. It will be time to leave.......
  6. The total cost to the hospital was around 1 million dollars....not kidding either......Glad I live in Canada. They picked up the bill!!!!!!!!!
  7. I drink G2 Gatorade every day. it helps keep me hydrated every single day. I drink it 1/2 and 1/2 with Water. That is what it is made for to keep your electrolytes up. 15 months out and every day I still drink a 1/2 bottle every single day. i can feel it if I don't. This is strange to me though as I always was a water drinker and still am. But I need it and so I drink it!
  8. You are going to be so excited when you find yourself in onderland even before summer.....Sometimes I can't believe that I went from a 6x to a large and size 12-14 jeans...who would have thought it... I bought a couple really nice shirts that I expected to wear in the following summer and was out of them before I got home after my stay in the hospital.... It was a mouth opening, gob smacking amazing thing...I am still not over it!!!!!! I lost 90+ lbs the first 5 months but that was because I had difficulties with my sleeve..I think it would have been slower if I hadn't....One way or the other it was interesting and exciting to see the lbs fall off!
  9. You have every reason to be excited..This is your time to have this happen. This is your beginning of a journey that will help you to be a healthier happier you...... Inquire away....... I remember when I first started I had the world in my hands....I felt like it was the hugest most exciting event in my life.....And it was.....I don't see it like that anymore. Now it is work and learning and changing and, and, and..I loved the beginning..So you have the right to love it too.......
  10. I was gunge ho right up to 4 days after my surgery.. Then everything went to blazes. I don't think it is common to be like we are/were..but it makes it less stressful I think on us....
  11. Mine too..........When I left the hospital I had lost all my muscle mass. So I had nothing left to sit on. On top of that I have a sore on .y tailbone as a result of the coma I was in. So now after over a year I have a trainer helping me build myself back up from the core...Glutes.....I need glutes! lol
  12. Thank you Lyndsey for the update. I appreciate hearing what is happening to all of you as time goes by. You are doing great. You are moving forward and taking your sister with you and keeping the family in tact... My thoughts are with you and yours. I knew it was neglect on the teams part....It would be very hard for you to even look at the man who gave you your chance at a better health when that happened to your sister. Thank you
  13. just started my exercise program... Have been introduced to the bridge and plank and 2 lb and 3 lb weights. I now have a mat and a exercise ball. Friday I get a medicine ball and some bean bags.... This is all new to me. I hired a trainer and he is working on building me up from the core as I was in a coma and lost all muscle mass.... Not liking it at all..i sweat and I am sore...But I guess it is me tome in exercise...sure hopw I learn to adjust and like it even a bit!
  14. There you go showing that jacket again!!!!!!!!? Man!
  15. Spaghetti and meatballs...That the only thing!
  16. Yes it will curb your appetite but it will also give you time to fix your head. Figure out why you binge in the first place. This is why it is called a journey. gives you time to fix your mind and then the body will follow... It is the time to take a really good look at who you are and why you gained the weight in the first place and learn what it will take to change this addiction. Learning what your triggers are and finding new ways to cope with emotions and pain without using food as your comfort.. I too had a food funeral before i started pre op and did not cheat when I started it. However I had to learn better eating habits and also found out that there are so many things that you can still eat...Just a lot less.... You've got this kid!!! All the best!
  17. I eat some protein at around 10 pm every night. If i don't I wake up in the night and have to eat something then...i have no issues because of this!
  18. Rev's..you know my story! When I came home from the hospital and had dropped 90+ lbs. i made my way into the bathroom because that was the first time I had seen myself in over 5 months. No one told me how I looked and no one prepared me for the change that had occurred in me. I looked in the mirror and could not believe the person that stood there. She was old. Frail. Hairless. Wrinkled and could barely stand up. Needed to use my walker still at this point. Looking back at me was my 80 year old mother. My mother was a striking woman in her younger years but as age happens to us all she changed. There I was Rev's looking like she did now. It was one of the most painful things I have ever encountered. I had hoped when I did this that it would be so gradual that I would not be different. that it would not make me look old, or my age.... But it did..And i cried about it for weeks and weeks and weeks and wondered if I would ever get over how I looked then....Since then another several lbs. have gone missing and I still see myself as I did in that mirror that day..........I would give anything to not have made a complete transformation... As I have said it was so dramatic that no one knows me and so therefore I never get the wow factor. And never will because of how it all came out..... Be glad it was not so dramatic in your mind Rev's. Be glad that you had friends and family that did not notice a huge difference.... Me...I live with the difference every day. I will never see myself different then what I saw in the mirror that day...It has stuck with me like a coat of metal over me..... I am just trying to make the best of it for all of us..they worry so much about me and my mind set....So i pretend it is all good most of the time!!!!!!!!!
  19. Me..I have decided I will not let it happen to anyone if I am in hearing distance....I have had enough of that crap for a life time and refuse to allow someone to say such terrible things to another human being.... I would have said.. you know the difference between you and her is...she can change and you'll always be stupid. Or she can improve. you your stuck being ignorant and looking just like you do now...so sorry for you!!!!!! I know I shouldn't but I have had a huge change in my life and no longer will tolerate ignorant people!!!!!!
  20. I have changed quite a bit in my eating habits. now I find sugar it be too sweet and it feels like it cuts me in the throat. I used to buy these Cookies that were healthy and eat one and tell my hubby that they tasted like dirt. No flavor but lots of Fiber... Now they are sweet and delicious.... You will have to let the change come slowly from eating wrong to eating right... I have noticed that if we eat the same things we did before surgery then we can't learn nutrition and the cravings continue to wreak havoc on us... I am so shocked that I find cookies and cake to sweet....I am changing so much but it is a good change!!!!!!!! It will happen to you. Like you said tasting the real flavor of the food you are eating is great!!!!!!!! I can't remember the last time I ate MC Donald's . My daughter told me the other day that if I did decide to eat it my system would rebel because I have changed so much..... Hoping great things for you too in your journey!!!!!!!!!
  21. Of all the food in the world. the only one I miss is a big plate of spaghetti and meatballs...truly...I think that was one of my worst addiction with food....I don't think I could have ever stopped it unless I got my sleeve... Since my surgery...I made it once and could not eat any of it and that was the last time I made it....I miss it a lot..But that is it...The rest nope.....don't know why!?
  22. Too cute...lol Seems to me that you are so ready for the new and improved you that is just around the corner...All the best!!!!!!!
  23. I am so sorry that you are having a difficult time of it...It is going to take some time for you to get your strength back and your body back in condition. Try the shakes mentioned above...Others probably have some good ideas. I had a vac for 10 months. Annoying little machine isn't it.....hoping for a quick recovery for you hun! When I was at my worst in the 5 month stay at the hospital because of complications from my surgery. A very smart nurse said to me...how do you climb a mountain... Being in so much pain and not really listening I said I don't know. And she said....One step at a time. That is how you have to deal with it all too. One situation at a time. Be good to yourself and work toward getting better by keeping positive as much as possible okay...It is very important that you see this as temporary and not a looonnnnnng haul...K
  24. Hide the scale and continue doing what you are doing. It will break ,it has too. Your body goes into a rest when it feels threatened. The scale will move again once the body has caught up with the changes and decides you are okay. It will start to release more weight... Don't cut your Protein and don't cut your liquid and don't cut your calories..Stay on track....Your going to make it....
  25. Your not sounding petty, your sounding discouraged and scared. And that is exactly how it came across. No worries there. It is just that as long as it is going down. Then it is a positive thing. I do understand how scary it all can be. I rely a lot on this forum to help me with the things that I am unsure of or need reassurance. That is all we are trying to say. Don't worry...Your doing great!!!!! Too much pressure on yourself can cause other problems you know. And i understand the I can taste it thing too...what special little thing are you going to do for yourself to mark that achievement?
