I'm so glad I cleaned out my cupboards. I have been very tempted to cheat on my liquid diet - and I have with a small bite once or twice. I think it would have been too much if I hadn't tossed all the bad stuff!

Lhollingsworth got a reaction from Satchel in Spouse feeling guilty
My wife is feeling the same way. It is difficult because it is just the two of us and I have always cooked for her. She is very thin and typically eats what she wants. She was just saying how she feels guilty - This is moslty because I am on a pre-op liquid phase right now so I image it will pass somewhat.
I guess maybe ask him why he feels guilty? My wife feels guilty because she knows that I literally can't eat what she is eating right now and the first week of liquids was rough. Now, I am feeling more confident about what I can and can't have and I have assured her that it is ok, and that I am ok, and that I want this surgery and weight loss WAY more than I want her food !
Maybe he feels guilty because he thinks that you want what he is eating?

    Hi folks,
I started this journey a few years ago when I was still living in Boston. I was looking into the duodenal switch and the closest surgeon who did anything other than the Lap Band or Roux-N-Y was in New York City so I drove down and fell headfirst into the WLS world. My life was a bit of a mess at the time and after the initial appointment, I never actually took the next step in the process and things just stalled out.
Fast forward to last summer. I decided I needed to shake things up in my life a bit so a few days after my 45th birthday and with my employer's OK to work remotely, I loaded up the truck and I moved to Beverly... Well, no, I moved to Seattle. A new home, a new start and time to start getting serious about my health and get things back on track.
After settling in, I spent a couple of weeks looking at the programs in the area and was impressed with the Swedish Hospital Weight Loss Center. They were having a seminar in a week so I signed up and went in. I was impressed with their approach, their mindset and the people running the program. I had my first appointments with Dr. McMahon and his staff on August 26th and after a bit of discussion with the staff I decided to change focus from the DS to the VSG and it's been a whirlwind of appointments and hijinks ever since.
My surgery date (January 8th) was scheduled this week and so the first phase of this journey is nearing its end. The second, unending phase will start shortly. I've never had any surgery before and my emotions are all over the map. I'm afraid it won't work, I'm afraid it WILL work, I'm happy, excited, terrified, and a hundred other things all at the same time. I have the support of a great medical team and great friends and it's time to take a deep breath and jump.
    Here we go!

I am so excited with my weight loss! I am a little over 1 month post-op, and before I started the pre-op diet, I was a small 24/3x. Today, I am already a regular 18/1x!! Woo Hoo!! Luckily I have saved all my 'smaller clothes' from when I was gaining and gaining, so I haven't had to buy any new clothes, but just the joy of taking a pair of 18s off the hanger that I hadn't worn in years, pulling them up with ease and buttoning them with awe, was an experience I had to share Yay!! Good luck to all of you on this journey! One day at a time!!

I love reading all of the posts that people make about their pre-op diets and the day of their surgery and the follow up days. I remember reading them when I first started this process and being so jealous. It felt like my turn would never get here. I also was so nervous that insurance would turn me down, or the doctor would say I didn't do something right.
Well now I'm on my liquid diet, and I only have 12 days until surgery. It has flown by. The liquid diet has not been nearly as daunting or difficult as I thought it would.
I'm so happy that I have made it this far! I just wanted to let anyone who is just starting this process and feeling overwhelmed, discouraged, or even just plain jealous (like I was) that there is a light at the end of the tunnel!
Granted this just means that I have made it through the end of the post-op journey and to the beginning of pre-op but I have the distinct feeling that I am about to "level-up" lol .

So this weekend has been pretty darn sweet! I got a call friday that my insurance (aetna) approved my surgery and Feb 4th i will be sleeved and ready for my new life. My surgery will be at Abingtion Memorial Hospital and my surgeon will be Dr. Fernando Bonanni. Bonanni is such a funny guy I am glade I choose him! He makes me laugh every time i've been scared haha. I just had my sleep study done, which sucked total balls! excuse my language! but it was so umcomfortable and took me forever to fall asleep. I also just had my EGD now that was crazy! I have never been put to sleep before, so that was interesting. It has been a very busy yet awesome week and I can not wait to finally be sleeved!

I feel as if in the last week some sort of shift has occurred in my thinking. Up until now I have been excited and nervous- with an emphasis on excited. Before the surgery was off in the distance and I had a safe healthy amount of time between the "here and now" and my surgery.
Well now I'm not measuring in months but weeks- and pretty soon it will be days. This reality is setting in and I am starting to get freaked out.
I've already caught myself self-sabotaging by eating out, taking a cookie from the staff room, finding excuses not to exercise, not taking my Vitamins, not drinking Water like I should ... Etc. I'm worried about the surgery itself but I'm also worried about life after the surgery. I'm worried that I might fail.
I'm also freaked out about the changes that are going to happen to my body. I weigh 275 right now. The lightest I can remember as an adult is 249. I have always been large; I was a size 16-18 in middle school. I have no concept of what it will be like to be smaller and honestly I am scared of losing what is so familiar to me. This is my body. I have never been one to suffer from low self esteem or body image issues. I have always accepted this as me. I want to be healthy and I know that there are so many things that I will enjoy more and try, but I am scared because I have no preconceptions of what I will look or feel like thinner. I have this awful image of me not knowing my own body, like a gangly teenager.
Tomorrow I have 21 days until surgery and I feel like I have an awful lot to work out before then. I am overwhelmed.

Is there anyway that you could hire a temp helper while you recover? Or have family help you out with your business? If you could hire someone to dictate to for a few weeks you could still go through with the surgery. I know it isn't optimal income wise but it might be a way.

I live in Maine. We do not often make national news, let alone history lol, but this is something that most of us are pretty proud of! I am being sleeved 12/21. I feel so much better knowing that while I'm being operated on my amazing wife will be fully recognized as such while in the hospital.

I don't believe I read anywhere on this thread that this was a second unwanted pregnancy. I think the OP was/is clearly going through crisis and there is no need for harsh words or hateful accusations. You say that your intent was not to make the OP feel judged but I have the distinct impression that those words are a hollow apology based on the context it was written in. Kindness and dignity gets us far more in life BioChick.
This forum is supposed to be a place where we can lean on each other. Obviously with so many people coming from widely varied demographics there are bound to be differing beliefs - even people we don't like. My suggestion is that if it doesn't pertain to you, if it isn't constructive, if you will do more harm than good - gracefully bow out.
This sounds like a tough and heart breaking situation, regardless of belief systems; let's have some empathy.
