Teddy bear got a reaction from pedsnurse120304 in Can I See Meals/portion Sizes Please?
I can't tell u exactly what my meal portions are.,, I'm almost 7 months out and my diet still confuses me.... there are certain types of food I can eat easily, and with no restriction (u can guess of course ) like chips or Snacks, but when it comes to real meals, my portion is very limited... I can't tolerate chicken anymore, or fish... maybe half a plate of steamed vegetables with 2 spoons of ground beef will do...Sometimes for breakfast when I'm really hungry I make an omelet with a bit of olive oil, using 2 eggs, and a piece of cheddar cheese.. very filling.. I also love Special K Cereal with skimmed milk...I have a small bowl and I drink the leftover milk.... I went to a cousin's wedding which had an open buffet... I actually went around the very large buffet 3 times wondering what to put in my plate... passed chicken, meat, lamb & fish, also passed the Pasta, rice cause I don't like them anymore... I finally settled near the shrimp plate, took 5 medium sized ones, 2 spoonfuls of a weird salad that had grated cheese & salami... that was it.. i tried eating a piece of cheese cake after that, but one bite was enough .. SO my advice is, don't measure your food, you can eye it, and in the end, you're still at the beginning, so you have to experiment, see what can sit in & what can't.. and don't be afraid to binge once in a while... in our position, binging is a way of our body telling us it needs food... so don't feel guilty... I don't... when I crave chocolate, I don't feel guilty having some, because I don't put any sugar in my drinks anymore... when I crave chips or Doritos, I don't feel guilty, cause I don't eat rice or pasta anymore.... SO cheers

9- I get tense when people tell me I lost weight in fear of jinxing myself.

1- Having a foul smell in some places due to friction, and actually living in the shower.
2- Choking in my sleep... really scary.
3- Feeling sorry for myself when I discover that I just ate a meal enough for 5 people, but I just can't help it anyway.
4- Not being able to get a swimsuit to play in the pool with my kids...
    5- Chair fright....

I was sleeved Nov 12. This is my first post but I felt very compelled from your post. About 5 days after surgery my tummy/incisions started itching like crazy. At my 10 day check up the surgeon said it was allergic reaction to the glue and to use Benedryl. I did and it didn't work, in fact it got much much worse. Little red, itchy hives all over my tummy from incision to incision in all directions. I emailed the surgeon a picture and the nurse responded that I should go to my general doctor. I did and it was an infection! Called Folliculitis, a form of staph infection. I was devastated. But the antibiotics I'm on and the prescription steroid cream are working. Please please do all you can to get medical help, if it's not getting better please go to a specialist. Don't stop until you are satisfied that it's getting better. You are in my prayers as I know how horrible and scary anything out of the "norm" can seem.

I agree with u.... I've learned from this site and other GS sites that only few people break their goal weight and lose beyond it... and also not everybody reaches their goal weight easily.... so I wouldn't be unhappy at all if lost too much weight... it's always welcome... I also don't care about the fact of having loose skin.... I was on the verge of dying from obesity when I had this surgery, so all I care is being able to move without pain and look good!!

No. If you look at the data, very very very few people lose too much weight. I suspect that is generally associated with bad complications like strictures etc.
I was worried about not losing enough, but I am very pleased with where I am at - even though I want to lose more.
What am I scared of? Maintenance - but, one day at a time.

Teddy bear reacted to Slenderella in Yes It Happened...and Yes It Made Me Sad.
I am 2 months out today, and when I weighed this morning I was so elated because I'm down 40 lbs from my pre-surgery weight. Unfortunately my elation didn't last for long. ;(
I am a private person, so I haven't told anyone at work that I had WLS. When people say something about my weight loss I cringe and stumble through the whole, "I'm working really hard, under a DRs & NUTs care, no carb, low fat, no sugar, blah, blah, blah" schpiel. I hate addressing people's curiosity, and because 2 other ladies in my office had WLS in the last few years, I'm sure that some people are digging for info. I usually manage to brush these encounters off, but today was different.
So this morning as I'm rocking a brand new size 8 pair of jeans...down from a 16-TYVM...I go to the break room to cook my egg whites that I'm getting so damn sick of having for Breakfast, and a friendly colleague of mine says, "Girl, you are wasting away right before my eyes". I say, "I'm getting there." She then proceeds to tell me that she is so glad I didn't take the easy way out like the other two did!!!! I am dumbfounded, and trying to gracefully and tactfully get myself out of this conversation, but I honestly wanted to cry. I told her that I didn't think there was an easy way out with weight loss. She said, "yeah, I know, but taking the easy way out is sad and it really shows that you have no self control."
I was devastated, and I've been in a funk ever since. I know without a shadow of a doubt that she would have never said that if she knew...that makes me so sad. It also makes me sad to think that someone I admire in my professional life would be so condemning of an issue she obviously has never struggled with. I felt dirty and cheap and like a coward for not coming clean and telling her, "My dear, I had WLS and it is not the easy way out." Instead I just let her walk away thinking I'm this goddess of self control and that I have done this all by myself. Ughhh, I'm so mad at myself.
I have worked my ass off to get to this point and I've invested a TON of money in making sure my future is as healthy and happy as it can possibly be, because there are people in my life that I adore and I want to see 30,000 more sunsets with them. I have never fought for something so hard in my whole entire life.
I didn't take the easy way out. The easy way out would have been to do nothing. The easy way out would have me giving into every craving and eating grotesque amounts of food just because I can. The easy way out would have been to continue to get fatter and fatter, and sicker and sicker and to die way before my time.
Sorry, I just had to come here where y'all would understand. Today hurt, and it discouraged me and it sucked. Thankfully, tomorrow is a new day...and I'm going to be one step closer to my goal.

So mad at myself!!! I have done nothing but, snack since I got the ok to eat... Want to kick myself today but, gonna dust myself off and I am making myself get back on the saddle. I was so sick of the mushy liquids and went a little crazy. I can't eat much but, what I ate was junk... It wasn't like I was hungry I just wanted to eat. Gonna have to treat myself like a heroin addict and one day at a time it. Hi my name is Brandy and I am a food junkie. Today will be my first day clean since my binge on Chinese food.

Milk in Cereal is more comparable to Soup or chili than it is to drinking during a meal. If you down the milk left in the bowl after you've eaten all the cereal, then I would call that drinking with a meal, but the small amount of milk in your spoonful of cereal is not. Unless you also consider soup with veggies in it or chili with Beans as also being off limits because it is a combination of liquid with solids.

I went to McDonalds with my kids last week.... I was looking forward to this, and told myself I would only order a small mcchicken sandwich or some nuggets..... and maybe coffee... when my sandwich came, a relatively small chicken sandwich with lettuce, tomatoes & mayo... I took 2 bites and that was it.... I gotten disgusted all of a sudden and gave it to my husband to finish.... I guess the filling was too much for my stomach to handle.... I did have coffee though ).... It's ironic cause before my sleeve, I would get a double Big & tasty burger, extra large fries, a gigantic coke, and I would still have room for a sundae after that!!!!!!!!! God bless my sleeve...

Hey Teddy, if you can get myfitnesspal on your phone it helps so much. It let's you know the calories, sugars, carbs, Proteins etc of everything your eatting. It's easier to decide if something is good verses bad or even worth eatting.
    It helps me a lot!
The Protein Bars are good but some brands are heavy in calories but its a personal daily decision based on your needs/intake.

I'm a little over 5 weeks out. I stopped by a friends house last night. She was serving roast, carrots and rice. I ate some, but not much. I don't feel guilty; it was really tasty and I had no problems after eating. Prior to this surgery I would have had 2 plates. What I ate last night would fit on a saucer and I was satisfied. Viva la sleeve!

It could be anything: Water retention, TOM bloating, gaining a bit of muscle... Don't freak out. Think about this: 1lb of fat = 3500 calories. There is no way in the world that you consumed 7000 calories in 2 days being 3 months post op.
Stay off of the scale for a few days until this passes. Weighing too frequently can be stressful! LOL.
