Some people have and some haven't. Can you lose 100 lbs...sure! Lots of sleevers have. In six months? Maybe..depends on how hard you are willing to work on it, but also on how your body loses weight. People often don't lose all of their excess weight in the honeymoon phase. Many work on it for a year or more, but it does eventually happen for those who dedicate the effort necessary to lose. I'd like to lose all of my goal in six months, but I know realistically it may take longer...and that's ok cuz I will lose it!

I had surgery in Mexico and never felt unsafe at all. Crossing the border was easy, you stop for the guard to view your passport and move on. The hospital was safe, I walked to a restaurant with my husband and sleeve sister, had no issues at all. Piedras Negras is a safe place, safer than most large US cities. Watch your local news any day and hear about the violence that goes on here, it is not just in Mexico.

You go through times like that, it seems like it is a bother to eat only two or three bites and it does not even taste good. I hated those days! It really gets better, in two weeks you will be eating a couple of bites more and things will get better. This journey really is "one day at a time", especially for the first two months. It really gets better each week hang in there!

I had a mini pack of M&M's from the leftovers but I try not to let the guilt get to me. I know last year I probably had 10 treats while I was passing out candy and more the next day, week and month. We are working on breaking a lifetime of bad eating habits. I have no bad reactions to sugar so I have to tell myself that one small treat is OK, just cannot make it a habit. I know that through the rest of my life, I will have to remind myself that. :0

I never really feared my surgery. I guess I knew it was my oportunity to get the weight off once and for all. Once my surgeon walked in the room to meet with me, I was totally at ease, I was ready! Best thing I have done for myself and my health!

That is really great for you , but muffintop did not have such a great experience. She told her story and that is what I responded to. She paid the same $ that other patients did but did not have a truly good experience. That is really too bad. I am sure she read lots of good reviews and expected that to be her experience also. It is a bad deal when Dr's and staff are stressed out or over worked and the patients get a not as expected kind of surgery experience. We all go into this hoping for a great experience and when yours is not so great, you have the right to tell your story. Those that are planning to use these surgeons need to know what to expect if they choose to go with them for surgery. You may get lucky and be treated great or you may not be so lucky. I am glad that she was brave enough to tell her experience. I know that I would have been upset if I had read hundreds of good reviews about my surgeon and then had a terrible experience. We all want to be treated like we matter to the Dr. And staff that we are entrusting with our life. Good luck to you, muffintop, I hope that you are healing well and that your weight loss is going great!

Congrats to all of you! I remember how excited I was in the days my surgery! I hope that all of you have a great surgery experience. In the first days after surgery you may question your reasons for doing it, but in time, things get SO much better. Take it one day at a time. I wish all of you the best!

Briand - until you know someone else's story, perhaps it would be best to keep comments like this to yourself. Many of us know Iggy's story and actually, hearing that she went to the store after 58 days was a reason for many of us to cheer.
This forum is for positive, helpful, supportive comments. You'll find that people on this forum are WONDERFUL about giving great feedback, comments, etc. We may not always agree with what others say, but it's important to respect that everyone has different experiences and opinions. You take in what you want and disguard what you don't.
If you can't play by those rules, we'd rather you not play on our playground.
    Thanks.

I seriously tried EVERYTHING, I tried to fly to Chicago, I said I'd take any flight to Los Angeles, to San Francisco, to Las Vegas... anywhere that I could at least get closer, and ALL the flights were full with about 20 people on the waiting list. Newark was not fun today, every single flight was totally full. The counter agent there tried to route me anywhere she could think of, chicago, atlanta, dallas, she even looked on other airlines, there was absolutely nothing available. She could have put me on standby for the next flight to San Diego but it was full and I wasn't the first person on the standby list, so that was a very small chance. (That flight did end up leaving at 3:30pm, the flight after at 5pm was also cancelled).
I've spent the afternoon on hold, on hold 1.5 hours to speak to United, did get the flight refunded (WHOLE flight, woo). I did manage to book a new flight Nov 7th to 12th, very thankful to Dr Ponce who had NO availability those days but agreed to squeeze me in anyways! So this trip is 2 days longer than the one I was supposed to do this week, instead of having surgery on the same day I arrive I'll be having it the next day, so that will help, I'll be able to drink Water on the flight. And I'll have an extra day before I return, so I'll book a hotel in San Diego the night before my flight, so in the end I think it'll work out!

I hope that you enjoy hanging out by the pool
Good luck to you in the days and weeks ahead! Move around as much as possible, sip your fluids and get your Protein in. It takes time to do it all so just do what you can each day AND get lots of rest. Your body needs it now.

allnewme got a reaction from LizInTexas in Do You Still Look Forward To Food Or Enjoy It?
I am almost 3 months out now and I really do not enjoy eating yet. Not like the way I enjoyed eating before the sleeve surgery. I have tried many different foods but most of them do not feel good once they are in my sleeve, so that makes in not so enjoyable. I think a food will be really tasty and then once I prepare it, I find that it is not good tasting to me. I know after one or two bites what will not sit well in my sleeve if I eat more of it. Every day is an experiment as to how food will go down.My stomach was not sensitive at all before surgery, I never had food issues unless I had a bug or something. My new tummy is though. I have not thrown up but I have spent a lot of time lying down after eating waiting for my few bites to digest.
I told my hubby today that I hope one day to be able to eat food, enjoy it and feel good after it is in my tummy. I know it is a phase and it will pass, I do not think it will be like this forever. I still prefer to eat soft foods, they just seem to work better for my sleeve

You definitely need 2 nights in the hospital after surgery. I went back to work in a week, but I was able to go home early every day to rest. Hubby and i own our own small business. This surgery zaps your strength because you are not eating enough to keep your energy up.

It's weird your focus on Dr. Alvarez yet you say you already know about him. So why are you here inquiring about one Dr and one Dr. Only...the one you say has a bad reputation. What are you trying to gain here?

I think that lots of people would be interested in where you found the people that you actually talked to. Everyone that I spoke to had wonderful things to say about him and I had basically the same experience that they had as his patient. I have never found anyone that has had a complication that has posted on any forum that I read about Dr. A. I certainly have never heard of the major complications that you are referring to. I guess you only get that info because you are a attorney ..........
I ask the same question? Why are you only inquiring about Dr.A if you say that he is such a horrible surgeon? I would run to any Dr. But him if I had your inside info. As you can tell, I am not buying your posts. I know this man, I trusted him with my life.

This is why we need to research our surgeons, read everything you can find about them, talk personally to former patients! This is your body and you can't trust that to just anyone. I was sleeved on 8/02 by Dr. Alvarez and he is absolutely a top notch surgeon. I had wonderful care by him and his team. I did a lot of research and called former patients before I made my choice. If there are bad Dr's out there, get their name out on these boards so that no one dies because of bad surgery skills.

I had great faith in God, going in to the thought of having a surgery like this. I know that God led me to the surgeon that did my sleeve, as I did not even know where to begin. I had such peace in my spirit that I never even questioned WHY he wanted me to travel hundreds of miles from home when I could have had surgery in my own back yard. Once I was there, I knew I was in the perfect place for me to have my surgery. I have never regretted it for one minute. I had a great surgery and have healed very well. I am thankful that God knows more about what I need than I do.
