  1. Not all carbs are the same. Oats are great because they are complex carbs not simple carbs. We all are watching our carb intake but this type is better than the latter. Think of it this way- wheat bread=complex carbs while white bread=simple carbs.
  2. I will mix 20 ounces in a shaker with protein mix in the mourning then drink 10 for breakfast and 10 for lunch. This gives a total of about 60gr for protein so far. I always was a big water drinker but have found I am switching or should I say needing flavor. So all through the day I drink about 1gallon or more of Crystal lite or water with Mio or Powerade Zero. Snack time is another 10 oz protein drink and a dinner treat of unjury chicken soup protein finishing out the days total of 100 to 120gr of protein. This is a very strict regiment and I sometimes have to remind myself not to fail. It is ok though as I see it training for the next step. The protein helps with the hunger and drinking fluids all day seems to satisfy.
  3. Made it past the half way point with 10 more days to go!!! A few things I have noticed so far. 1) A person can really survive on liquids alone. 2) "Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmerman" even what he eats is starting to look good. 3) As my stomach growls and gurgles at least I have something to listen to all day. 4) " Don't poke the bear!" Dad is on edge better to leave him alone for awhile. 5) Cooking for the family sucks! 6) I now have half a binder with recipes for post diet. 7) My stomach now jiggles. Down 35lbs which I already feel better but have many more to go.
  4. Just keep telling yourself you are in training for what is to come and it will get better. Also, keep the fluids coming as it helps suppress hunger.
  5. Please trade Docs with me! I am on day 10 of a 21 day one.
  6. My Doc believes there are 2 groups of people. The sweet eaters and volume eaters. With past results she recommends the sleeve to volume eaters generally. One reason many slider foods (sweets) can be consumed with the sleeve and actual weight gain can be accomplished. With the other surgery you would have instant dumping syndrome from the sweets. One other item I myself looked at was the sleeve was a less invasive surgery compared to the other. Also, I am a volume eater so both myself and Doc agreed that would be the best route. I understand you have to decide but have you asked or considered your Docs recommendations?
  7. Stomach hunger really not bad at all. I have 11 more days on this 3 week liver shrink/pr-op diet. Tried a new protein shake today. It was the same brand and flavor but had peanut butter flavor added and all I can say is yuck! I thought it would be a treat because I am crazy for peanut butter but this one somehow missed the mark. Still using the chicken soup flavor unjury for a comfort food every evening. Hardest part of this diet is I cook all meals for my family and for the past week they wanted all Dad's favorites. Made enchiladas night before last for dinner and homemade blueberry muffins, pancakes for breakfast for them. And here Dad is with a watery protein drink. Oh well, Dad in training for what is to come.
  8. Everyone is different so the Doc evaluates each on a case by case. Mainly for larger people it is for the liver to shrink for surgery. Yes, it is very hard to do but it also prepares you for the coming days after surgery.
  9. I have quit smoking for 7 years but my Doc orders the test for all patients I guess. When the lab drew blood one was for nicotine.
  10. Dude, great job! My measurements are just about the same and I can hope to have as great results as you. What kind of routine do you use (exercise, meals)?
  11. Unjury Chicken flavor warning. Well the label did say not to get the water to hot and boy were they right. Every other evening I have been having this as a treat because of the salty chicken flavor. Tonight the water must have been a wee bit hot because when I added the powder it would not mix right and then I ended up with a solid rubber ball. Flat out weird, and we drink this.
  12. Best wishes and good luck for the journey.
  13. They way I have researched this and also talked with 2 Docs is this. The sleeve is best for large meal eaters and the RNY also is good but more invasive but helps the sweet eaters better.
  14. Not sure about the best but "living XL" has some nice ones for higher weights. They can be order on this mens clothing site. DXL Mens clothing http://living-xl.destinationxl.com/mens-big-and-tall-store/
  15. I am hitting day 7 of a 21 day pre-op diet and not to bad so far. Of course the Doc hit me with a 3 week liver shrink instead of 2 because I am a big ole boy. Down 30 lbs so far with 2 more weeks to go before surgery. I had been reducing my food intake for the last 2 weeks before I started so it would not be such a shock. The Doc has allowed me a small dinner and even a yogurt if wanted per day. But so far have been following a more disciplined attack 2 to 3 protein drinks a day and a hot meal of fresh or canned spinach for dinner to feel good. Oh yeah the unjury chicken soup has helped to comfort as I found it to be very salty. Well, 14 more days to go and as long as I stay this route I am hoping all goes well.
  16. One thing that has helped me is flavored water(crystal lite, mio drops, powerade zero). I have always been a big water drinker. But since starting the preop diet I have found I was still drinking alot of water but needed something more. Just by adding flavor to my water it has helped with some cravings.
  17. Just weighed in this morning and am currently with a 30 lb loss with 2 weeks to go on the liver shrink diet. Everyone is different and will lose at their own rate. Mine is going to be a high loss but my weight is also much higher.
  18. Always check with the Doc but 2-3 lbs per week is acceptable. Also, us bigens tend to drop alot more when weight loss is first started up. You will slow as you get closer to your ideal weight.
  19. Just take a gander at my bmi. I choose the sleeve because of less issues as a RNY and I was concerned about time spent on a operating table. The sleeve is a very less invasive surgery compared to the RNY.The lap band is not for us morbidly obese just ask a qualified doctor. Even when I brought up these points to my Doc she was in complete agreement. Also, the RNY has better results with sweet eaters than say a volume eater. Best way to find out though is to ask the Doc for options
  20. Great way to start is water aerobics. I joined a water aerobics senior class to help start going for a routine. With a severed ACL, busted up hips and knees from the Marine Corp and of course way overweight. The senior class was my speed for right now.
  21. I hope it works out for you but do you have any kind of insurance or medicare? Also, asking the doctor is a great idea to inquire about reduced cost or payment plans.
  22. Will tuck this recipe idea away for future use. Thanks.
  23. I will be in the same boat but that is a great way of looking at it. Thank you for the smile today.
  24. I would greatly like to hear from anyone that needed this. I know the extra skin is bad and sucks but to make it to that point is a good thing. It takes alot of weight loss to reach that point and I am hoping to make it there soon.
  25. Hi Kathy thanks for the encouragement.
