  1. Wow, that is an amazingly scary story. That doctor is very dangerous and I hope he isn't still practicing. You are like Iron Woman I wish the very best and hope you have a speedy recovery!
  2. I like the refried beans cup at Taco Bell. Think that would be good on mushies? I'll be starting those in a few days. Or maybe it's too high in fat?
  3. My husband brought home pizza last night. It smelled good, but really can't say I wanted any..... I was shocked!!! Hang in there...... you can do this
  4. Hi B&R's Mom I had my revision on 5/4/12 and so far it's going as expected. I got so frustrated with my band too. I had it for 9 years, but the last three were horrible and I basically had to live with it unfilled because of problems. I ended up gaining about 3/4 of the weight I had lost. The band doctor I was using basically told me the band wasn't going to work for me anymore because he couldn't fill it without causing reflux. By that time I had started researching alternatives (because I hated the thought of gaining all my weight back) and read a lot about the sleeve. I asked the doctor if he thought that was a good alternative, and he did, even though he didn't do the sleeve himself, so he referred me to someone else. I ended up not going thru that doctor and became a self pay. Obviously all of us have to decide what is best for ourselves, but for me the sleeve seemed to be the right choice. At first, I would say what you did, to my husband.... "but it's permanent" and he gave me the most eye opening answer...... he said, yes it is and that means no more fills, no more over fills, no more restrictions on the types of foods you can eat (I couldn't eat vegetables, salad, fruit, bread, pasta, rice, etc etc), no more chest pain, and you can keep the weight off. I decided that's what I wanted. Don't get me wrong, I was scared and worried, but I'm so glad I've had the revision. I've already lost 24 lbs and on my way to recovery. My doctor in Cancun told me he cringes now when people ask for the band because research is shoiwing the band becomes ineffective after several years and people start having problems. I guess I'm a poster child for that. LOL If you have any questions just let me know. I haven't been sleeved all that long, but glad to share what I have experienced so far.
  5. Sounds like you have learned a valuable lesson about yourself and your past eating habits. Don't beat yourself up.... we're all human.
  6. WOW that made me blink a few times...... wonder if we were reading the same forum.
  7. and..... here's a great big HUG!!!!!
  8. I think most of us have gone thru this in one way or another. I know I have. I had my surgery in Cancun and we went early to spend a few days enjoying the beach. I was on Clear liquids at the time, and I know, at the beginning, I had a couple pity parties when my husband would be having his meals. I finally realized I had to just suck it up and enjoy the experience and not worry about the food. I eventually would even go to the restaurants with him and sip Water and lemon and just enjoy where I was and who I was with. I guess my advice would be to focus on your family's get together and not the food being served. (I know easier said than done) But we need to learn to replace food with something else. I hope you are feeling better and your days get easier
  9. Glad to hear your surgery went well and you are on the road to recovery. Yes, it does get better. It's been two weeks since my surgery and I can see progress everyday and I'm sure you will too.
  10. Then that's exactly what you should do..... never have the surgery unless you are comfortable having it.
  11. I can understand your concerns. I had a similar experience when I had my gallbladder out years ago. It wasn't AFIB, but tachycardia. When I was put under my heart started beating way too fast and they couldn't get it slowed so they brought me out off the anethesia and put me CCU for a couple days. Nothing else happened and I had my gallbladder removed two weeks later. I was so scared. Since then I've had other surgeries and never had a problem since.... so not sure what happened that day. My advice would be to get all the information you can from your doctors and have them explain why they think this happened and why the surgery is ok....... from that you can make a decision that is best for you. My best to you.... hope it all works out! Big hugs!!!!!
  12. I feel the same way.....
  13. What a good question...... I have been wondering the same thing. I have weakness too and have been wondering when it will go away.
  14. HEAR HEAR !!!!!! Nodding my head in agreement
  15. Welcome Jason!!! Good luck in getting your insurance approval and getting to the next step. I bet your lil ones are going to be very proud of their daddy! Keep us posted.
  16. Wow you've had quite the journey just to get here..... let's hope this new journey helps you resolve some of the co-morbities and can improve your overall health. So....... Welcome and best of luck on the 22nd. Keep us posted!
  17. <------- note to self....... do what Lissa is doing!
  18. I'm drinking/eating very small amounts at one time, so I've had to spread my Protein over most of the day. There is no way I can get all of the "recommended" daily amounts in just three meals. I'm not trying to keep up with the ideal eating regime just yet, as my sleeve still seems too small or swollen to take much at one time. I'm just trying to go with the flow and let my new tummy heal up, and get my protein in when I can.
  19. Oh Lissa, that brought tears to my eyes. I'm so happy for you!!!
  20. I am doing mine once a week. I started my pre-op diet on a Tuesday and took my measurements then and just decided I would continue to take them every Tuesday.
  21. I just learned thru personal experience that sneezing isn't much fun post-op...... ouchie ouchie
  22. That is like a dream come true!! So amazing.... but like you said...... you worked your butt off, so all the credit goes to you. A BIG ol' CONGRATULATIONS!!!
  23. I can completely relate to what you are going thru. It's still fresh in my mind, since I just had my revision on the 4th. (two weeks tomorrow) Our imaginations are such overactive lil buggers. I had imagined all sorts of bad things, when I should have been imagining all the good things. My mind was doing a lot of "what if's" (which by the way I have started a petition to remove from the english language ) I know it isn't easy but try and come to peace with your decision and feel good about all the wonderful things on your horizon. BTW After I got to the hospital, spoke with all the doctors and nurses and had my pre-op tests I calmed down a lot. A doctor told me before surgery "if you aren't nervous..... then you aren't normal". Big hugs to you all and good luck with your upcoming surgeries!!!!
  24. Well I may be crazy.... but nonetheless........ I do remember reading a post of yours saying you had gotten the funding you wanted and could now have surgery with Baja..... is that the post you're looking for?
