  1. This makes so much sense! I am loving hearing this. I used to sweat like crazy all the time. It does not help that I live in TX. However, even now when I work out I sweat a bit, my hair gets wet under my biking helmet, but before, I needed to have a towel in my hand. I couldn't wear makeup because I would just sweat it off. I have to look into this because now I am cold all the time and at night I feel like I need sweats and socks to sleep (my husband likes an arctic chill). I would trade being cold to sweating when I haven't been doing anything to warrant it.
  2. I feel like I am only 75% in control of my emotions in the past two weeks. I know there are lots of hormones hiding in that adipose tissue that are being released at random intervals. My husband is very understanding as he sees me struggle to control it. For those of you that are a little further out, how long did this last? When did you start to feel stable again? I swear, its like I'm bipolar! I am not really having food issues, I can feel this is pure hormones. I just don't know how long this is supposed to last or if anyone knows any interesting articles on the subject.
  3. I posted about this a week out from surgery and no one responded. I felt like a freak. It went away about 2 weeks after surgery and now I know when I haven't eaten in a while, but I don't know if you can call it hunger.
  4. It looks like you are doing great! I am worried often too, because I healed really fast as well. I am doing what I am supposed to and recently figured out that when I hiccup, it means I am done. Took me a month to figure that one out. I hit my 3 week stall (which lasted about 5 days) and now I lose a lb about every 3rd day. I am getting in between 600-1000 cals a day and because we heal so quickly we have a better chance of getting in all the required protein so there won't be any hair loss! You look like you are doing great! Just chew chew chew and go slow.
  5. The liquid diet is going to use a lot more liquid protein than you think it will. I would find a diversity of things you like for planning out the pre diet and enough to have for at least a few days after. Also, I was allowed sugar free vit c drops in the hospital when my mouth was very dry. I stocked up in advance too. I liked the protein shakes the same, but I couldn't take the cream soups after and was suddenly REALLY picky about my water. I could taste everything in it and it wasn't always yummy.
  6. We tried about a week an a half out, it was too soon. The movement made the muscles in my stomach very sore. Tried again a few days later, but I had to keep my tummy from moving too much for about 2 weeks! I think everyone will be different but the muscle healing process should be similar. NOW THAT is TMI, but I hope it helps!
  7. I was on full liquids by day 3 and mushies by day 10. I am still on mushies, but truthfully, a whole lot of things are mushy when you chew them very very well. I go back to regular foods a little more than 6 weeks after surgery, so for me I get to eat some darn peanuts again on the 18th of May. The main purpose is to allow your stomach to heal and help you not hurt yourself. I have had no issues with this diet (except I want a salad more than I can describe).
  8. Everyones response is the same as what I would have said. See your doc asap. Reflux can cause esophageal erosion and eventually cancer. Don't just let it continue.
  9. How wonderful that you are setting those goals for yourself. I also had surgery on 4/9 and have lost 25 lbs too. My NUT never gave me a calorie intake to go by. I am supposed to focus on protein and fluids. However, it is hard not to look at calories when I keep track through sparkpeople it gives it all. I seem to average between 500 and 900 depending on the day. I have gone over (as high as 1200) but I had to snack all day to do it. (I have been experimenting with the new tummy). Shedding 14 lbs by memorial day is not really realistic. It may be able to be done, but it isn't going to be healthy. 2-3 lbs a week is much more realistic when considering both diet an exercise. If you go too quickly you are risking major hair loss and gall bladder problems. Slow and steady wins this race. You are doing great! Take the time to develop new healthy habits during your "honeymoon period". Also, I believe the term onederland refers to losing 100 lbs not getting into the 100's. I may be wrong on this. If anyone wants to comment on this as well that would be helpful. I see it used interchangeably.
  10. I was interested in ordering the cheese sauce from Unjury. I have heard wonderful things and didn't get my surgery until April so now I am dying to try it. After surgery, I kept logging on and it said sold out for about 2 weeks. At the end of two weeks the page said it is apparently only shipped from October to April. What kind of business functions like that? grrrr
  11. I felt hunger days 4-9. When it happened it HURT like crazy too. I dropped everything to do something about it. On day 10, it went away. It took me a couple days to figure out it was really gone. For 2 weeks I felt no hunger and had to remind myself to eat. Now, I get a slight hunger pang after a work out but it is very minor. Its a good reminder without being overpowering. Hang in there, I think some of us have excess residual gherlin that takes a few days to process.
  12. I am open about the amount lost but not about the surgery. I completely agree with you. Saying diet and exercise is truth without playing 20 questions.
  13. You go to tickerfactory.com and build a ticker. Then go to settings; signature and copy the line from tickerfactory.com that says bbcode into your signature. Good luck!
  14. I completely felt the same. Some of the first few days, I wondered if I ever had the surgery at all. I actually was hungry on and off the first week, then the hunger went away. As strange as that sounds, it took my stomach a week to catch up to the surgery.
  15. Read the research and statistics section on this site. There is a year and a half old link called gherlin and learning. It should answer all your questions.
  16. WTG! Congrats! I bet shopping is lots of fun now!
  17. Tonight I realized I have developed a horrible new habit 3 weeks out from surgery. I am being very careful about separating fluids from food. Once in a while I will be drinking something and walk into the kitchen and find something my hubby put out on the counter that I really want. I noticed that I have begun cutting off a tiny piece and chewing it until most of the flavor is gone and spit it out into the trash can. This is embarrassing as I thought this was something only someone with an eating disorder would do. Its not that I don't want the calories, I actually do, because I am ranging between 500 and 800 today and that doesn't subtract from my 5 day a week work out negatives. I just know that mixing food with fluids has made me really sick two times so don't want to play that game. Does anyone else do this? It sounds like such a first world problem and the wasted food makes me feel terribly guilty now that I realize what I am doing.
  18. My surgeon gives them out, but I didn't want one. I really won't be using it. My days of buffets are over and kids meal food is always fried. I haven't really gone out to eat yet, but I will just have them bring a to go box with the meal. I am very private about my surgery so don't really feel like chatting with some random waitress about it. One day we did make a to go stop at Rudys for a baked potato and I wound up taking 1/3 off the end, and giving the rest to my 7 year old. I only took 5 bites off of that 1/3, and actually had some potato for the next day!
  19. I was able to drink one in about 2-3 minutes, but I had to wait 10 to do another one. Even that got easier after a week and a half or so. It almost feels like the swelling goes down in your tummy and fluids just start to slide through.
  20. My surgeon told me I could start biking again as soon as I had my drain removed. I do both walking and biking now. I go half the distance my body is used to, and then come home, drop my bike in the garage and then walk the opposite direction for half the remaining time and then back. I can't wait until I can do anything even near 20 km! I am hoping when I move it will be a bit easier though. Right now, I bike 3 days a week through TX hill country and although they aren't mountains, every few minutes you hit a pretty intense hill! I understand the need to want to do it all, but remember you are going to be tired for a while and will take some time to recover. Good luck!
  21. Thank you for asking this question. I have been doing a lot of "vurping" too and its pretty gross. I already thought I was taking tiny bites and eating slow, but I will have to be more careful.
  22. WTG on this life changing decision. It is a little scary, but I am only 3 weeks out and even though I feel like my whole life has changed, it really needed to. Your story sounds like so many people here. I wouldn't give back this decision for anything and in all likelihood you won't either. Congrats on doing something great for yourself and your family!
  23. Oops. I did mean sleeve. lol I was chatting with a girl with an RNY on facebook right before I posted here. This is what happens when you are tired. This makes me feel better because I haven't really had any major pain happen yet. I do burp a lot though. I will be eating and get a sharp pain and burp then its gone. Its so strange. I am trying to make the best out of this honeymoon period and replace bad habits with good ones. I just really can't tell anything about how my gastrointestinal system is going to be that day. Also, I guess there is less danger of stretching it if it takes 18 months to completely heal. I am trying to go slow and it is rather dangerous when something smells really good and I have to wait. It is hard to remind myself that I can't wolf food down anymore or I will suffer.
  24. Hi all, I just needed to bounce this off some people. I am obsessed with the idea that I will stretch my pouch. I stop before I overdo it and although I have felt full quite a bit, I have never really felt pain. How can you tell if you are stretching your pouch? I am only 3 weeks out and am on mushy food, but I have found that means about anything moist that you chew well enough. I can't stop thinking about ruining my surgery. I am averaging 600-800 cals daily and really have to work for those. I have also been doing plenty of fluids. If I forget and don't give it a full half hour, mixing food and drink will make me vomit. That has happened twice and I fully intend to pay more attention for the future. I know I am not the only one that is paranoid about this, so any thoughts or advice would really help. Thanks all!
