Annoying Secretary
I will be reporting her after my surgery. The surgeon that I am going to is a little different from the average bariatric surgeon. This is only about 10% of the surgeries he does. I am getting my surgery through military routes, so complaining has to be done through the correct channel. She is just a paper pusher, but I will see my surgeon again next week and will be mentioning her to him as well as filing the correct reports. If you want to get something done as a miltiary wife, yelling and screaming gets no one anywhere. You just have to know the right people I wanted to vent because sometimes the way you need to handle things around here is frustrating, but she is about to have serious problems for acting like a personal dietician. In a way, I really am glad this happened. Don't worry all, it will be effectively handled, it just takes a little while when going through the proper channels. However, as I stated above, my husband always looked confused when I told him about the "fat talk". I wanted him to see it. I am was P.O'ed at her attitude, but I got something out of it and she is going to learn an important lesson before she causes issues with a less assertive person.

Help With Unflavored Protein!
Here is the thing about GNC. If you buy something there and don't like it, take it back. They take everything back. When it comes to these protein formulations that we all have to take, everyone is different in what they think is gross and what they don't. Don't take someone elses word for it. Try it. If you don't like it, take it back. In all likelihood, it won't be amazing. It is dependent on if you feel you can stomach it for a little while. Later, you can add it to things like oatmeal and bring your protein up without ever having to taste it again.

Need Voices Of Experience- Obsessing Over Mfp
I see logging as a way to retrain our faulty thinking. We never learned how to appropriately count how much we were actually ingesting or we would have been a lot less likely to need surgical intervention. I would keep logging. Eventually, you may not need it every day, but it is important to retrain your thinking. Don't step on the scale every day, but take your measurements and keep logging. In my case, I cannot trust myself without my log. Many days I chose not to log and realized I had gone a couple hundred calories over. Just keep up the good work! You will get back to losing soon

Full Liquids
Can anyone help me with some ideas for the "Full Liquids" stage? I bought a few cans of tomato and some cheddar cheese cream soup. I also bought some meat baby foods that I "may" be able to handle if I think them with broth of some kind. Can anyone come up with any other ideas? I really don't think I'm going to do so well with the baby food, but I had to have something a bit more savory in case I feel the need for something that isn't a sweet protein drink. I am on the "full liquids" stage for 2 weeks and would appreciate any ideas you guys have.

Pre-Op And Alcohol
Hey, I have a question for the post op people here. I start my 8 day liquid diet on Sunday and my husband wants to have a couple drinks with me on Saturday night. I know I may never really be able to drink again, so would like to do this. I don't want to put my surgery at risk in any way, my understanding is that alcohol is out of your system in 24 hours. Did anyone else do this? Thoughts?

Eating Before The Surgery
I had a friend comment last week that she finally has a reason to just eat the good stuff off a slice of pizza (the toppings). That made me excited. Never in my life have I had an excuse to "waste" a piece of pizza like that. I get to do it with 0 guilt too!

Please Make It Stop
Ken. S. I just spotted the reply to this topic. Right now I get the daily digest (which I am okay with one per day) and I also get emails everytime a certain person on my friends list updates her status (sometimes this can be multiples a day.) I went into my account again and disabled everything. If I get anything today I will contact you regarding this. Thank you

Hello And Welcome
I have been following this website for 6 months now and decided that I might get involved in a few support groups. My surgery date is right around the corner and I realized I will be going through my liquid diet and surgery all during the week of passover. This got me to thinking that as Jewish people we may have special considerations following our sleeve surgery. I hope this group is helpful to anyone who would like to join. A little about me: I am a 32 year old mother of one. I have been married for 12 years and am a biologist. I decided that I needed the sleeve not long after I quit smoking. I gained enough weight (on top of my already heavy frame) that I was suddently having blood pressure problems. I had to begin taking medication and found out during this short time that I was having spinal problems as well. This severely limited my activity level and I just kept putting on the lbs. My sleeve is scheduled for the beginning of April and I am excited and horrified all at the same time. I have never been under general anesthesia and it worries me (like I think it does with most). I look forward to getting to know whomever may become interested in joining this group. I live in TX and there is not a lot of faith based support in the area I am in (much less for sleevers). Have a wonderful day! I look forward to meeting our new members

Food Funerals
Let me start by saying I was supposed to have my surgery in March. It was moved to April. Had I had it March, I had months of good habits behind me and was ready to go. However, for some reason, when it got moved, I felt the reason to have multiple food funerals. I have been on a terribly unhealthy diet for the past two weeks now. I'm almost acting like I will never see food again. I haven't gained any weight, I am maintaining, but I went back to my old ways of coffee in the am and eating once at night. I even slowed down my water intake (which is strange because I LOVE water and tend to drink a lot of it, its not something I had to learn). Its almost like a stupid teenage rebellion. I don't know what the crap is going on with me mentally. I am going out with my family to have sushi on Saturday night and then Sunday I am starting my liquid diet two days early. Right now, I am sitting and drinking some decaf tea trying to mentally prepare for this. I have been practicing good habits for 6 solid months now, I can't have blown them all in 2 weeks. Its almost like I tried though Now that I have realized this, I can get it back under control. However, I would like to try and figure out what in the world was going on with my brain. I believe for the past two weeks I was actually eating WORSE than I used to. Did anyone else do this? I know it was a mistake and it actually happened to help me learn a few important things Pre-op. Everyone says don't do food funerals. I'm just afraid of how much harder I made my post op life right now. sigh....

Hospital Won't Hire Obese
Why not? I hate that this is happening, but employers are getting out of control. Just yesterday, I watched something on the news about employers demanding email addresses and passwords for your facebook account so that they can go poking around to make sure you are an "upstanding citizen". Seriously???

I Hear Hair Loss Is An Issue At About 4 Months Post Op..
I understand that almost everyone experiences hair loss and that it does start growing back between 6-9 months. About a month after surgery, you can start taking something called biotin to help slow down the hair loss. The best thing you can do though is be sure to get all of your protein daily.

Annoying Secretary
So I meet my surgeon today (who is a cutie pie btw) and after my appointment he sends me in to fill out some paperwork with a secretary. She immediately starts in on "I was going to have the surgery, but I lost 27 lbs on my own soooo" and then begins to tell me it isn't a magic fix. Afterwards, she gave me what I call the "fat talk". This includes things such as, you just need to exercise more along with about 15-20 minutes of dietary advice (which varies from person to person). I stayed cordial because I have heard the "fat talk" more times in my life than I can count. However, my husband started to get really pissed (he has heard me refer to it, but never actually heard it before). On my way home it occurred to me that the only people I have ever gotten that advice from are overweight people. A naturally skinny person has never told me "I just think of it as a lifestyle change, not a diet". I am actually pretty unhappy with her holier than thou attitude, but this was a great example for my husband. He never understood why I told him I didn't really want anyone but a small few to know about my surgery. This would be why. I hope it is the last "fat talk" I ever get. It am a bit tweeked, but I choose to take it as a reminder of one of the multitude of reasons I am getting this surgery done.

Random Delay Rant
Thanks all. I appreciate the kind words. The doc who is doing my surgery has been deployed for a year and in December they got new equipment so now only need to make 3 incisions. I have made this okay with myself because it just gives him about 16 more people in front of me to practice on instead of half of that. I am sure everything happens for a reason, but I agree military status should have nothing to do with medicine. I will be so glad when we are no longer military. My husband suckered me in to begin with and hopefully I will be able to support us so that he can get his education too. I don't want to play these games anymore.

Please Make It Stop
I have done everything I can to make this website stop sending me emails. I have searched the faq's and have been told to do exactly what I have already done. I love this website, but am so close to completely just closing down my account. I have even gone so far as to completely change my email to one that I only use for junk mail. I get 10-15 emails a day with things like daily comments from people I really don't know and posts to some forum I commented on months ago. I am really frustrated and need some help before I just have to ditch this site completely. Thank you in advance

Random Delay Rant
Started this process and was on the waiting list by mid-october 2011. Have been waiting for my number to come up since. I am getting my surgery through military routes and was assured everyone on the list goes in the order they signed up in. Got my date, March 19th. They then continued to schedule out to April 3rd. Went and picked up all my pre-op liquid diet stuff. Got a call 2 days later saying they were moving me to April 9th. When I asked about the dates on April 3rd I was told no surgeries were being done on that day. Later she revised herself and said no openings are available on that day. On the April 3rd date, they scheduled the person that has been one behind me on the list since October and a girl that has been on the list since December! I am willing to bet that girl is an officers wife and am really p.o.'ed at this system right now. I was assured everyone will go in the appropriate order and then find out it is a rule of thumb that is really led by convenience. I know it is only a week, and I am almost certain there is a reason for it, but I am just soooooo annoyed by being lied to. I am also now very nervous about the honesty of parts of my team Please pray for me. I have put off graduate school for a year to get this surgery and just can't put it off any more. Thanks for listening to my rant. I tried to get this out on a FB page that I am part of and the moderator attempted to belittle my negativity. I left the group because that did not seem to be the "support" group it pretended to be. I am working hard at getting some weight off pre-op. I am excited to start my life. I have so many things I have put on hold. The good news is, I got my bloodwork done and other than my Iron being a hair low, the fish oil I have been taking since September completely leveled out my cholesterol problem! I am going to take this extra time and make use of it by getting some home projects done.

Camping With A Sleeve
My surgery is now moved to April 9th and I have a family camping trip on May 27th. It is a 5 day trip and we have lots of comfy camping gear, but I'm wondering if any of you other sleevers like to camp? If so, I will just be passing the soft foods stage and starting the intro to solids phase just as the trip starts. Any thoughts on how to make it easier on myself and my family? I have no choice but to take this trip, it is not just family bonding time, but time to find an apartment for graduate school. Since Grad school is at the beach, this is the cheapest way to stay in the area.

Eating Before The Surgery
Its okay about the pizza and coke. I'm glad I had it because my husband managed to ruin any enjoyment I get from either of those things. I'm really pissed, but its good that every time I look at them now I will be disgusted. One less unhealthy thing for me to like.
