acampbell16... can your job leagally prevent you from using sick time for the surgery??? you need to check on that. it should not matter what kind of surgery it is. also fill out the disablility papers. The one good thing about Dr. Aceves was that he left it up to us when we felt comfortable going back to work. Most that i know took a month off and one person took 3 months and he covered it. Also when I spoke to my HR dept and told them i was having surgery they handed me the disability papers and told me to let them know what days they needed to put as my sick days no questions asked. even if your doctor doesnt think more than 5 days is needed your hr dept should be more supportive. BTW I was private pay and did not use my insurance but did use my UNUM which was great.

I was told that once fully healed my stomach capacity will be 8-10oz. Now say we double that size, an I have a stomach that is 16-20oz.
That's a pound of food or more. I can pack a lot of calories into a pound of food. Plus with that kind of volume I probably wouldn't watch my diet nearly as well.
I mean, heck I've got plenty of room why not order that Bloomin' Onion we can share it, I'll just have the Victoria's filet instead of the Melbourne & I'll share a chocolate Thunder from Down Under.
Wait, no way I just ate over 1200calories!!!! That's 1/2 what I use to eat, and I didn't drink anything.
That damn surgeon left too much stomach. I think I'm gonna sue him for malpractice. Everybody knows that the sleeve is not supposed to be this big.

You missed the answer....they take out the stretchy portion which not only is super stretchy (weather you have 10% stretchy or 30%) and leave the muscle and non gremlin (my favorite word lol) producing area. If you have more left you won't be successful because the stretchy portion won't restrict.
That said, a year or so out you will be able to enjoy just about everything you want but hopefully will have learned to get your basics in. Xmas dinner can be throughly enjoyed....just not three plate fulls with a side of pie (which I saw someone do this Xmas and was astounded when they started complaining about being unable to lose weight....while eating an entire pie!).
I digress . this isn't a cattle car surgery. Current studies suggest the route that is taken now is a good one. If (as with all medical technology) things change, well then they will change. Is this something you want to wait for?

I believe my surgeon told me they remove the portion that is stretchy - and if they left part of that well then you could stretch your stomach back out by over eating again>???

I found a site, but my computer died !! but it has to do with a certain size, they found if to small, or to big it just does not work...they stick this tube down your throat and into your stomach and they staple along that if you go to youtube there is surgeries on there you can watch even. It really made me feel better seeing what they are going to do to you.

I just got to the exact same sizes! In my case, I happened to be still trying on plus sized pants and the dressing room on that side of the department store was closed. The lady in the regular department was helping me and brought me some size 18 pants from her department! They fit and looked better than the 16 W from the plus side! It was OFFICIAL! I am never shopping the tiny, lousy selections of clothes in the plus sized departments again! I was grateful to places like Lane Bryant that at least had stylish clothing in my sizes, but I am still so happy that I do not need to pay those prices ever again!! Shopping is becoming fun again!!

That's so funny because I also remember being so excited to NOT be able to shop at Lane Bryant anymore - since their smallest size is 14 and I'm currently in 10's or 12's, I can finally cut up that LB credit card once and for all!

Hey guys, Lately I have been waking up with HUGE morning boner. Maybe TMI but its like a third bigger and thicker than my usual erections. I wish I could harness it and have it all the time, not that im lacking im a human tripod ya know but this is some serious lumber. I was wondering if any of you guys have had the same issue, is it the weight loss or something else? Maybe my nightly Vitamins or Protein Shake? Gotta remember to be careful, almost took out the bedside lamp getting outta bed this morning

Ugh, unfortunately Protein is expensive. Please remember though, you are not going to be buying "regular" food for yourself for quite awhile!!! I have a very tight budget and I have found the best for me is the GNC brand Protein. I don't remember the numbers exactly, but it worked out well. Plus it was 100% whey protein which is VERY important!! There return policy is amazing as well. If you open it, try it, and don't like it? No problem, just bring it back.
There are also a lot of pre-made Protein drinks that include Vitamins in them. Those are really great as well. You might want to try the ones your doc suggested, even if its just at first. It IS the only thing you'll be "eating" for awhile.

I was sleeved almost eight weeks ago. I've lost 41 pounds total, BUT, 17 pounds was pre-op, and 15 pounds was in the first two weeks. Since that time, I'm losing at about 2-3 pounds a week and I had a one week stall. I also started adding in exercise and when that happens it takes a while for your body to adjust and you might even seen a small gain for a bit (muscle weighs more than fat). Think about this - would you have been able to lose the 15 pounds you've lost in this short of time without the surgery? I know I would not have! I've read lots of posts on here from individuals that are losing at about the same rate as me and to expect stalls, and even a one or two pounds gain every once in a while (TOM, and other factors). My NUT said to expect about 2-3 pounds a week so I am on track. Here's a tip if you are not already doing so - take your measurements and check them weekly. Last week, none of my measurements changed except for my neck and I had lost 3 pounds! Weird huh? But it's nice to see a little change somewhere, even if you aren't seeing it on the scale. And, try not to let the scale get you down. I know it's easier said than done, and I'd be lying if I said I don't get a little frustrated occasionally, but that's human nature I think. If you are following your doctor's plan, you are going to see progress. Some of us are just slow losers. Keep focused on your plan and do your best to stay positive! You're on the losers bench!

Yes, it's true....we nurses get excited about some VERY strange things. I will admit to clapping for a patient when he FINALLY passed gas after waiting in recovery almost 4 hours after his colonoscopy - I'm sure he thought I was a freak

I like you have been overweight since grade school! I can't wait to be able to wear normal size clothes, shop ANYWHERE I DAMN WELL PLEASE!! Not have to ask to ORDER something in my size, or go into American Eagle and not find anything and have to go home and order it online since they don't carry for 40 or 42 in the store! Life is going to change so much for us and I absolutely can't wait! What a world it will be! Watch out for me is all I can say!

I agree with karen, I am so looking forward to a pair of hot jeans and knee high hooker boots. I coudnt even wear ankle boots until last month(fat cankles). But I am starting to get definition in my legs.I would love to be in a single digit clothes but I can not even remember them as I have been overweight since grade school. I am looking forward to that whole new world. being healthy will just be icing on the cake.
