Hey,Tampa, over here in Zephyrhills I ate 4 meatballs tonight. Weren't very big though. No spaghetti, no sauce. Had nothing to do with being in Zephyrhills. I just like writing Zephyrhills.

After surgery very little can be eaten due to swelling. From that point to a year a doubling in capacity would be true. I do believe my ego has doubled, though.

Good point. Fat is easier by far to deal with than compacted bowels of compassion.

Whether you tell or don't tell will not change the fact that you work with pre-adolescent emotional level jerks. They are not worth stressing about. The folks I tell have to prove themselves mature enough to handle the truth first. One thing for sure, I am absolutely not ashamed and when I talk of my surgery I will not allow anyone to try to frame it as an act of cowardice or as the easy way out.

Pure Protein bars for me and wifey. 16g carbs, 2g sugars, 200 calories, 20 g protein. I like the chocolate peanut butter but the peanut butter surprise is our favorite when we can find them. They have a creamy caramel center that suits me down to my shoes.

I also devour chicken in various versions. It sits easier on my sleeve than hamburger, pork chops, steak, but not as good as fish. The moisture content of meats make them easier to take so in casseroles is the best. Grapes are great especially if the are fresh, juicy, and crisp.

Wife and I lost the 200 pounds between us. Closer we are!

I had losses, gains, and stalls but I averaged my weight loss by the formula...pounds lost divided by days out of surgery. Almost a pound a day at first then it went down to .3 pounds a day, then .1 pounds a day. But the thing is..on the average it still was going down. It got real slow right around my goal weight. Now I am 8-10 pounds under goal weight. I concentrated much more on exercise than I did on weight loss, turned myself into a lifelong athlete. I have quit working out now, my daily work with my nephew in the dock building business is far beyond workouts. I seldom weigh myself but I notice that my saggy skin appears to be tightening up a bit. My muscles are rock hard.

We are not talking about a backyard mechanic fixing an old car, this is your body and your life. If your doc doesn't know what the heck he is talking about demand that he find out what he needs to know or look elsewhere. It is not up to us to give him an education. If so, I would charge him about $1000. an hour.

To our delight our grocer had a beautiful sugar-free cherry pie which we promptly purchased. At lunch we left room for sliver pieces of the succulence which we chewed slowly with rapturous expressions. Later, at Home Depot, the rest of the story was heard. Both of us began to do a sonic imitation of a flock of geese. It was a looong migration. It is difficult to do any careful shopping when "blow and go" is your method of avoiding embarrassment. The customers that remained that day were the ones who were truly serious about home improvement. Sugar-free confections contain the stuff that dreams are made of...nightmares.

I would be much happier with a doc who said,"Let me do some research and I'll get back to you". Covering up a lack of knowledge to keep up the Marcus Welby image turns me off. It is lazy and dangerous. Someone who imagines they already know everything they need to know has no wiggle room for thinking, growth, or competence.

I will join your rant. Being awash in ignorance is semi-understandable in common yokels but in a doctor it is inexcusable. We have an illusionary vision of doctors keeping up with research and reading journals. In truth some get diplomas and slide just like in other professions. That certificate on the wall in the fancy frame would find more purpose at the bottom of a canary cage. In fact, due to the seriousness of the situation some are a danger to society. A recent experience with my aged brother-in-law is a case in point. I took him to his doctor because he was falling and dragging his foot. The doctor told him he was just getting old and sent him out after collecting his money. We later took him to an emergency room which immediately ordered a helicopter to take him to a good hospital. He, just in time, received brain surgery for a dangerous buildup of blood. He is slowly recovering. Many doctors are the real thing. Some are jerks. Look through the myths. If they don't even know the difference between the bypass and VSG you don't need their advice.
