  1. My surgeon doesn't require it unless you have a history of heartburn or previous surgeries. All dr's are different.
  2. I had to have a colonoscopy earlier this year. I was drinking the rest of stuff they gave me from the bathroom. So glad I don't have to do this for surgery. Horrible is all I can say.
  3. Good luck Vicki!!! Only 4 weeks behind you. Just think next year at this time we will be able to help the newbies thru this process!! I can't wait to start and to be able to post goal achieved.
  4. Do you have to do the 3 or 6 month supervised diet for insurance approval? That is the only reason I can see for needing to take a diet pill or if your surgeon wants you to lose weight pre op. My pcp put me on phentramine during the 3 month supervised, but I hated how it made me feel. I took adipex years ago and lost weight and gained it right back after stopping it.
  5. Hives are horrible!!! I have had them a few times for different reasons. My first time was from an antibiotic that I had finished the day before and broke out for a week. The last time I had them was when I was pregnant. They said it was from a hormone surge. Your body is going through so much, it is anybody's guess. Benadryl cream was my savior. Also ask if you can take benadryl at bedtime. Hopefully it clears up soon.
  6. All insurance companies that cover bariatric surgery need to cover the sleeve. It is crazy that most of them only cover lap band and Rny.
  7. I haven't had surgery yet, but I had my gallbladder taken out. My back was what hurt the most from the gas. It was on my right side around where my kidney is. Walking was how I relieved it. It's a struggle between walking and not over doing it. As long as you are staying hydrated you are doing fine.
  8. What insurance companies do you have? Aetna is very quick on approval. I was approved within 2 days after everything was submitted. Hope time flies for you both. I have surgery dec 1.
  9. I chose sleeve because I didn't want anything to do with re-routing of my intestines. I also have had a few friends have bypass and the dumping syndrome is horrible and they stretched their pouch back out and gained most of their weight back. I think the sleeve is a better choice for me. I need the restriction, but do not want the malabsorption. The results are similar. Some studies show bypass a little higher on weight loss immediately , but overall the sleeve is the only option for me.
  10. I know my dr has instructed me no caffiene, no alcohol and no carbonated beverages for 3 months post op. They all can irritate the healing stomach. My dr recommended to cut out caffiene pre op so that we aren't dealing with withdrawal on top of everything else post op. Giving up caffiene is easier said than done.
  11. I had problems with 24 hour when I had my gallbladder taken out. I am not looking forward to the pre op diet. I only have to do it 3 days. Have you tried eating sf jello? It is at least something in your tummy. I don't know about post op, but from what I have read food is the last thing on your mind. Trying to get enough liquids is difficult with the tiny tummy. You can do it. It is a necessary evil.
  12. My husband and I went out to dinner tonight. I was debating between two things on the menu. I thought to myself oh I will have that next time. Half way through dinner it hit me, there isn't going to be a next time for awhile. I am having surgery in a month. When I got home I was going through the mail and my pre-op diet had been sent to me. I was happy to see that I only have 3 days of clear liquids pre op and can have protein shakes with skim milk during those 3 days. Wow this is really going to happen soon.
  13. From everything I have read buyer's remorse is very normal in the first week. Second week is a little better and it continues to get better after that. I am trying to prepare myself for that. I am guessing once you see the weight coming off and you get to start eating food and feeling better then it gets easier. Good luck and try to be patient. There are a lot of great posts on this forum that will help you through this.
  14. My dr told me to wait at least 3 months to have alcohol and to be very careful because it affects you differently after surgery. Obviously it should be very moderate during losing phase due to the empty calories in alcohol.
  15. It took me 48 hours to get a response back from Aetna. It was quick. I got the letter within a week.
  16. My date is Dec 1st. I take lexapro. The depression is suppose to go away after the initial huge weight loss. The surgeon told me that most of his patients go off of meds completely after the weight loss.
  17. I love these questions. It makes feel more prepared for surgery. I didn't even know about the drain until I saw it in a post. I have learned so much from this site.
  18. Sadly there are so many people that think we chose to be obese. If we only put that fork down we could be thin. I have had so many people offer to help me diet since I decided to have wls. Oh wow I have never thought about trying that before. Just thought it would be fun to have major surgery and have 85% of my stomach cut out. Seriously I would love to see what this lady looks like so we could analyze all of her flaws.
  19. And a side note I told him that one of the side effects is increased sex drive. Lol
  20. We talked some yesterday. He still thinks that I should try to lose weight on my own. I did before, why can't I do it again. He thinks that I am going to change after losing weight. I told him I will be more confident, but that is not going to change how I feel about him. We have been together for 8 years and have been through a lot and this is just going to be a new adventure. Going out to dinner is what both love to do. We will have to learn new things to do together. I think going to the gym would be something we can do together or going for walks in the evening with our girls.
  21. Yes acid does decrease after time. Dr told me to expect to be on meds for about 6 months. It is not really like acid reflux, it is more like nausea/hunger from what my friend has told me. The body releases hormones when breaking down fat cells that cause a hormone surge could can lead to depression. Similar to post pardum.
  22. I am having my surgery Dec 1st. I know it will be awhile before I can eat some foods. I have not met with my nutritionist yet to go over my post op diet yet. I work crazy hours so I am a little concerned with eating healthy post op. What kind of meals do you eat for lunch? I do not have a lot of time to cook, so any suggestions would be great. How many times of day do you eat? I know Protein is first priority along with 64 oz of Water. Lisa from St Louis
  23. Congrats on the surgery date!! I will be right behind you on Dec 1st. It is very exciting, but scary at the same time. I think we have all failed so many other times that is only natural to worry about that now. I think I will feel better once I go over the post op diet and I am better prepared for planning meals after the surgery. Good luck and keep us posted.
  24. You look amazing!! Your legs are incredible. Have fun trying for the baby!! Day 13 of my cycle was always the magic number for me. Live, Love, Laugh is the only way to live your new life.
