  1. My surgery is Dec 1. I have been trying to find out how much my out of pocket expense is going to be. The hospital requires payment in full before you can have the surgery. I have called the hospital's insurance dept at least 15 times over the last few days. I have not been able to talk to anyone. I have left several messages, but no one calls back. I know I will not be able to get ahold of anyone next week with the holiday. So frustrating!!!! Plus the require a cashiers check as payment. I have decided to work mon and tues the week of surgery to keep my mind off of surgery. Any suggestions?
  2. I have been struggling with weight loss since day 1. I was originally eating 60 grams of Protein, 30 carbs and 600 cals. I was losing little to no weight. My nut and surgeon upped cals to 800 and carbs to 60. I started losing a little. Now I am on 800-1000 cals and 100-150 carbs a day. I have lost 5 lbs 2 weeks straight. I'm not complaining, just confused. I still struggle with getting in all the calories in a day. My pcp said something about having too much insulin and my body needing carbs so that it wouldn't store the calories I was taking in as fat. Has anyone else done better with weight loss with higher carbs than low carbing?

    Zumba anyone?

I tried Zumba once. I realize why I only dance when I drink. I haven't given up on it yet though. I start classes 3 days a week in feb. It burns a ton of calories so I think looking like a fool is worth it. I think starting a class from the beginning would be a lot easier then doing the drop in classes where everyone already knows the moves. If you go to Zumba.com there are a ton of success stories with weight loss.

    NSV

The scale has not been so kind to me. I'm losing a lot slower than I thought I would. That being said I went to my pcp on Monday and my BP was too low!! He took me off all my BP meds. So I guess those 20 lbs and eating healthier has been worth it. I'm still happy that I had my sleeve and I know the weight will come off adventually. It is nice to be down 1 pant size and 2 top sizes. Trying to look at the positives!!!
  5. I had surgery 12/1 and have only lost 20 lbs. It is frustrating. My dr told me to look at it as I have lost 23% of what I want to lose in less than 2 months. He had me raise my calories and my carbs and the weight is starting to come off a little faster now. It is different for everyone. High protein and low carb did not work for me. I have to do equal amounts of carbs and protein to lose.

    Pain Medicines

Motrin can be hard on your stomach and can cause ulcers. My dr said the same thing. Some dr's say it is ok in moderation. I was okay'd to take midol for cramps. Protein shake- my nut said to eliminate Protein shakes by 8 weeks out. If I need to supplement, she said to use bars because they stay with you longer.

    Post Op?

Comfy lounge clothes, multi vitamin, whatever ppi they are going to put you on, protein shake, clear liquid stuff, and lots of bottled water. I also used a lot of crystal light and Hawaiian punch drink packets. You may need a pill crusher if your surgeon doesn't allow you to take pills whole. A stool softner can be helpful too with all the protein.

    FINALLY!

Congrats on your date!! The one thing I have figured out with the protein is to avoid smelling it. For some reason post op if I smelled the protein while trying to drink it, I had a hard time. Don't drink too much if it pre op either. You will be tired of drinking it after a few weeks.
  9. My BP went thru the roof post op. I was told it was normal post op. My blood sugar also was all over the place. I am 4 weeks post op and my BP was 123/74 today. I would to give your body a chance to adjust before worrying about it.
  10. I am a little over 4 weeks out. I have only lost 9.5 lbs. I have always been a fast loser in the past. I have been getting my water in without a problem. I am getting around 50-60 grams of protein in. My calories are 600-700 a day. Carbs 30-40. I think my body is in starvation mode. How many calories are you eating and losing weight with? I know everyone is different, but need some suggestions.
  11. Tiffnie-concentrate on your liquids so you don't end up back on the hospital. The first week is all about hydration. If you can get protein shakes in that's a bonus. I was lucky, I had no issues with protein. I figured out to drink it out of my drink shaker bottle. You don't smell the protein that way
  12. I walk 2 miles a day. I am not released to do any other type of exercise. I had issues with one of my incisions from picking up my daughter too soon post op. I also just started back to work. I do a ton of walking at work. I am a store manager for a major retailer. I know stalls are normal, but I never really have had a major loss. When I did weight watchers and la weight loss, I lost about 4-5 lbs a week. It is just so confusing. I have an appt with my nut next week.
  13. I was talking to a co-worker today who had the lap band done a few months ago. He has done well with weight loss, but men usually lose quicker. He asked if I had pain after eating. Nope not at all. He asked if I had to avoid foods because they get stuck. Nope again. He asked if I was hungry all the time. nope for the third time. He also asked if I had reflux all the time and a few other questions. He said that if he didn't chew every bite to musch he had sever pain. He also said that he only ate at home because it was so difficult to eat at work or out anywhere. I am soooooooooooo happy that I got the sleeve over the band. I am only 4 weeks out and have had no issues drinking or eating anything. I am not losing as fast as I want to, but I know it will come off adventually. I am losing inches though.

    slow weight loss

I'm in the same boat. I had surgery 12/1 and have only lost 8 lbs too. I have lost 22 inches though. I think my body is in starvation mode. I have been trying to get more calories in over the last few days so I am hoping to get through this stall. I stopped weighing myself everyday because it was driving me crazy. Tomorrow is my day to weigh in. Hope the scale starts moving for both of us soon!!
  15. Caffiene is a diuretic which can cause dehydration. Also caffiene can cause irritation in your stomach. As a side note carbonation could be rather uncomfortable early out. I wouldn't even consider it at 4 weeks out. Every dr is different, but from what I have read the caffiene and carbonation are no no's with most drs.
  16. I was also a Pepsi girl. There was nothing like a 32 oz fountain Pepsi. I tried cutting back that didn't work for me. I had to quit cold turkey. I am 4 weeks post op today and for the most part I really have no desire to drink it anymore. I also do not drink coffee or tea, but you can't have caffiene for 3-6 months post op anyway. Good luck!! If I can do it anyone can.

    Drs release

I was told to not lift anything over 10 lbs for the first 6 weeks. I made the mistake of lifting my daughter at 2 weeks post op and paid for it. The incisions are still healing from the inside. You can herniate the incisions if you lift too soon.
  18. I am in the mushies/ soft food stage now. I want ranch dressing on everything now. I was so flipping tired of all the liquid stuff by day 5. I promise you that it does get better. Just do the best you can to get the protein in and clear liquids. Also try wylers pink lemonade. I can only find it at walgreens. It is kind of tart and a change from the sweet.

    Post-op food checklist

Every post op diet is different for every surgeon. I was on 7 days clear liquids with Protein shakes mixed with skim milk. Then 7 days full liquids. Them 2 weeks mushies/ soft foods. The clear liquids was tough for me. It was a little easier on full liquids and I'm fine with mushies. Clear liquids include sf popsicles, sf Jello, broth, diluted apple juice and crystal light. I like the sugar free Hawaiian punch. I got tired of my Protein Shakes by the second week. The most important thing the first days home is to drink as much as possible. My nut suggested I chew on ice to help with wanting to chew. It helped some. It is worth it. Good luck to you all.
  20. I am day 6 post op. I have seen others having issues with being cold. Not me, I keep having hot flashes and sweating profusely. I have checked my temp, it is normal. It is 20 degrees here and I have my bedroom window open. Has anyone else had this? It just started yesterday. I am seem to be losing weight since this started. I have tried drinking juice when it happens, but it doesn't help. I thought maybe my blood sugar was too low from no carbs.

    3 day countdown

Most of the shots were made out of collagen protein before. Now some of the shots are whey protein. Look on the ingredients to see what type it is. Whey isolate is the best protein. Sorry you had such a rough surgery. Hope everything turns out ok.
  23. I was told to wait 4-6 weeks to workout. Can't wait to start working on these arms. Lol
  24. I was sleeved dec1. I am only down 8 lbs since surgery. I thought the weight would just drop off. I guess I fantasized that I would be down 30 lbs the first month, but it's not going to happen. I have lost a ton in inches though. I just keep telling myself to be patient. At least we all are "losers" though. : )
