Slow and sure here. I know if I increased my activity it would be more. Difficult to do with grad school. Have hit a couple of stalls - Needed to increase what I was eating and my activity and then back on track.

I have been struggling the last two weeks. Lose a bit, gain a bit. But basically stalked for 2 weeks. It's so frustrating. I know it's part of the process and I'm trying not to let it get to me but it's starting to.
The only thing my tummy doesn't like right now is almonds. Shrimp is iffy so I've been avoiding it for a few weeks.
I'm down just over 60 pounds since Mar 30 and lots of clothes are too big so I've bought a few smaller sizes. My wedding ring is almost too big to wear now too...so not sure what I'm going to do about that!
I'm also grumpy at times - the hormones are no joke! From fine to almost crying over nothing. So annoying!

Had surgery March 22. I have been stalled for almost 3 weeks.
I have lost 27 lbs up to this point. I don't weight myself more than twice a week, but the last week has been so tempting to do it more often. I try to make sure I am getting enough Water and Protein. I will admit I think part of it initially was not getting enough protein. I have increased my protein through using high Protein Drinks and bars (can only eat 1/4-1/2 a bar at a time, but try to get the whole bar in throughout the day) as Snacks. I have also tried to make sure I eat my protein first, then any veggies. My biggest downfall is exercise. I know I need to increase and start to do more than the walking I have been doing.
Just a bit frustrated. Don't expect to loose tons of weight each month, and know there will be stalls, but dang........this is feeling like forever! Anyone else having stalls like this?

Thank you. I am scared to increase my food intake I am scared I am going to stretch my pouch. I eat about 4 table spoons at dinner. 1 egg at Breakfast and try to drink some Protein at lunch. I really need to know it's ok to have a little more as time goes on.

Everyone's doctor and program differs. My doc says 1 gram of Protein for every inch you are tall as a minimum. So for example, I'm 5'7". So my protein minimum is set at 67 grams a day. Mostly I'm ok with that. I still have to remind myself not to sit down without Water next to me ... And it has been years.
I just try everyday.... Really, it's the best any of us can do.... Try!

    @@Inner Surfer Girl,
Thanks for the reminder. I agree with your points. A lot of people don’t seem to realize how important Protein is. The requirements your surgeon or nutritionist tell you aren’t a goal or a best-case scenario. They’re requirements! And, like you said, no bonus points for not hitting them! That’s a great way of putting it.
Water, too. I think sometimes Water is even more under-recognized and under-emphasized than Protein, but it’s just as important as protein, if not more. It’s more important if you’re concerned about things like life and death, and not ending up in the emergency room from dehydration.
Thanks for the reminder. It was a good reason to get up on your soapbox.

I am 3 years post-op RNY gastric bypass. I am 67 years old. One of the problems I encountered after surgery was that my face began to severely wrinkle. These were very fine wrinkles. They made me look like I was 100 years old. My wife suggested that I use an oil on my face called Bio-Oil. It is available at CVS and Walmart and other stores. It did the trick. I put on a few drops on my face in the morning and it works fine. I am young again.

Oh wow, I thought this was just isolated to me only! I stay cold ever since I had my surgery. I live in Texas and just the other day it was 96 degrees and I was thankful to feel the heat while others complained. I wonder will this be forever. I kind of don't mind sometimes. But when I go to bed, I have on socks, a gown, a robe and 2 blankets and a comforter and I'm still cold.

Too fast or too full, a little alarm to get your attention. Annoying, but helpful in making different choices next time.

Just wanted to give an update to you guys I came home on 1/12 feeling 110% better than when I came in. I asked my surgeon and the pulmonary specialist to explain to me what happened. Basically, I had the rare (although from what I heard from nurses, post op bleeding is not that rare ) post operative bleeding complication. When they did the 2nd abdominal surgery, that put me at risk do develop the Fluid around my lungs (apparently any abdominal surgery heightens this risk) and the effusion caused the abcess. I felt like a total freak because others I know who have had this sugery had 0 complications. I'm still quite tired and unable to sleep on my side from the soreness. I gained 25lbs of Water weight from all the fluids and transfusions (ironic right? Come in for WLS and gain 25lbs lol) so in 15 days I've lost 44lbs. I'm just glad to be out of the hospital! Spent 8 nights, 10 days there. People have ready asked me, was it worth it? Baring any future complications, I would say yes! Even being tired, getting that weight off makes it easier to move around and I look forward to being able to swim and exercise more thanks.for the support guys!

Dub. I am in a similar place at my work - trying so hard to make a change! I spend so much time at work, it's difficult to have things be so lousy.
to the OP, for me if I don't have a meal, snack, meal, snack, meal then my weight loss STOPS. I don't eat much at a time, but I seem to need to spread it out. Some days it is hard to get everything with my liquids in.
I try to pack up my Snacks, and honestly most of my meals on the weekend so I can just fill my cooler in the morning. for me Snacks have been either a Power Crunch Protein bar (because I love the triple chocolate) a Protein shake, light string cheese with 2 pieces of lunch meat, a small serving of cottage cheese with oh, maybe 3 strawberries, or 1/4 of a banana, or else I will have 1 ounce of almonds and one ounce of dried cherries, or maybe an extra small serving of lima Beans. I don't know how this will change as things move along - I am only almost 3 months since surgery- but this, for now keeps me loosing weight. There's only been 3 different weeks I didn't loose and it was always when I cut out my snacks.
as for beverage I *really* like Vitamin Water zero. the LEMONADE is my favorite! they are sweetened with stevia- Walmart has the best price for the multipacks.
I hope you get some more ideas, because it is all so much easier when things are planned out and you don't have to try to figure food out on the go and stressed. Off to pack my lunch box now!

So if you are 1 month post op (like me) or 1 year post op let's see your hair makeovers! I have been hiding behind my long hair for 3 years now. I used it as my security blanket. Well 30lbs down (with a ways to go) I felt the need to finally chop it off. It really meant a lot to me because I'm gaining my confidence back and I haven't felt confident in a very long time!

Not really sure as I did not have a scale in my home until almost a month after surgery. When I unpacked the scale I was pleased at the loss, but it was not what it had been between surgery and initial post-op visit. Can't really say if there was a stall or not.
With that being said... trying to not weigh myself more than once a week. Slow and steady progress will win this.

My Protein is going down faster when I double the scoop to the same amount of liquid, or, I add one scoop of a flavored protein and one scoop of unflavored. Only gets a bit thicker but by volume of liquid it's the same but way more protein. My am shake totals 48 g ( I use water) and I get the additional in with yogurt. My buddy here adds Protein Powder to her yogurt!

My biggest mistake is not realizing how monumental losing weight would change my life. My life before was very basic and routine because it had to be. I couldn't function really and now, there are lots of fights and arguments because I'm not ok just sitting on the sofa starring at my husband play video games for hours and the kids run around from place to place while my life burns away. Even the best relationships will have periods where you have to renegotiate your life together. I mean, we aren't getting a divorce or anything, but I was not expecting to have to fight for the right to be allowed to go to the mall or go for a walk because it's not what he likes to do and he's still stuck in our old life cycle and I'm trying to make a new one.

I think it is common for individuals that undergo weight loss surgery to not be able to see the weight that they have lost. Before surgery, I never really, really looked at myself. I was never in photographs because I was the photographer of the family. When I looked in the mirror, it was always a straight shot, which minimizes a visual of my obesity. I think it is very important for someone who is about to undergo surgery to take a self portrait prior to surgery and then once the weight comes off. A side-by-side comparison photo is the best way to appreciate the weight loss. I took one before and one at 6 months. It was a brutally honest photograph and I tried to strike the same pose before and after. Here is a link. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Operation.jpg
