Sherrischeffler reacted to Briswife15 in Sleeve or Bypass... help!
My surgeon won't do a sleeve on me because my barium swallow showed reflux and moderate dismobility. He said it was likely the reflux would get worse. I am on strong meds for GERD and still have reflux. So it is bypass for me. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Having 2 Drs with totally different opinions would be a concern. I would be asking both of them lots of questions to find out why they are recommending the 1 surgery over the other.
Personally I would avoid the VSG if you have any signs of reflux, whilst you may not feel the symptoms now the surgery is likely to exacerbate them. Do a search, there are plenty of stories here of people that have had to revise from VSG due to reflux. Do you really want to take the risk and possibly require a revision to RNY at a later date?

This bikini thread needs........MORE BIKINI pics.
Great thread topic, too. Pretty amazing development: Women going from being pre-op to reaching the point where they want to rock their bodies in bikinis. Tremendous accomplishment. Speaks volumes about not only the obvious weight loss but also speaks to the healthy state of mind that's been reached. Huge respect, ladies. Huge respect.
I promise to never show off pics of me in a Speedo suit......because, well......I'll never own one.
Maybe I'll throw up some shirtless kayaking pics or such when I get there. Threads like this are huge inspiration. I know that when my 47th birthday arrives.....I'll be 9 months post-op and feeling much, much better. By the 48th birthday I'll feel better than I did on my 28th.
This is going to be a fun ride............

Flapjacks...LOL. I know this is an old topic, but it is both as funny as it is informative. Compression shirts sounds good to me. Gee, do a search for Spanx for men and you'll see a lot of skinny male models wearing the stuff. At some point in my weight loss, I am going to have to pose for a torso shot of my moobs while wearing spanx. It might scare small children though
Judging by women's Spanx, there is only so much they can do.

The only advice I would give you is not to rule out anything without taking your personal health issues in consideration.
If you have Gerd or reflux at all you should be at least researching bypass as an option. Do NOT be afraid of the malabsorption. It is intended to help you lose that weight. As long as you take your Vitamins which by the way you will have to do with the sleeve and lap band as well, malabsorption will not be a problem.
Please make sure you look at all of your options, understand the pros and cons and then decide the best route for you.
I wish you the best of luck on your journey!

Sherrischeffler reacted to ga_crystal in Brave enough to cut hair SHORT now!
Hello ladies! I wanted to see if women who are losing/have lost weight after WLS are now more brave about cutting their hair! I know for me, I always felt like my hair was my curtain. I always hid behind it because I am a natural blonde, and therefore no matter how BIG I was I always felt like atleast I had pretty hair! HA, sad way to think I know. Anyways, I am ALWAYS hearing people say that they could "Never pull off a short hair cut" because their face is not made for short hair. My hair has been short for a few years now, mainly because I have two small children and it's SO much easier...but I also cut it when I was at my heaviest. I now have a short pixie, and I feel liberated!

I just have to say looking back I am glad it was outpatient. The suture line is huge and at least I know how clean my home was and my carefiver( husband) kept my environment exceptionally sterile which is key and even high rated hospitals have germs. I felt better at home.
