I know a few people who had great experiences in Mexico. You can go to the yahoo forum and get recommendations and info on those doctors as an extra resource. You could try a credit union to see if they would give you a lower rate here for a loan.

I am a teacher, too. Hopefully, you don't have horrible teacher insurance like I do. Just watch out for exclusions. Mine doesn't cover obesity, but will consider it for morbid obesity, it is just taking FOREVER! They keep wanted past records, etc. Good Luck!!

I think it has to do with lawsuits, malpractice, etc.

I am considering surgery in Mexico if I don't get approval from my ins. Do you know if the doctors there will correct problems if something goes wrong? I was just a little stressed about that and then having to worry about finding a DR. to fill the band when I return home. Any insight?

No, I've bee looking into Dr. Arturo Rodriguez. Know someone who used him and said all went very well. I am planning that if my insurance denies me again after this next review.

When I have the surgery, do you feel the port? Does it stick out? Does it bother you at all?

Did those of you who had surgery in Mexico have any problems with after surgery care? I am deciding on a doctor after a long lost battle w/ my insurance. You said free fills for life. Do you have to fly back there to get them?

I was told it has to do with the experience of the surgeon. Very experienced doctors can place the lap band with no problem- no matter if the liver is large or not. Inexperienced ones need the liver to be smaller, so there is less chance of mistake. (I'm sure the insurance could be a big factor, too-anything to avoid a mistake and save themelves $$$).

I am trying to get approval too from Cigna, but they still haven't made a decision. I was told to write a letter to them explaining why I needed the surgery and the struggles I have had with my weight all my life. Did you have an exclusion on your policy? I think my battle may have to do with the exclusion on my policy. They said I can fight it, but I don't know how long to keep fighting! Good luck and I will pray for you!
