I wanna guzzle down a bottle of water!
I have been able to chug since maybe 5 months out? Look up "water loading" -- it is actually a bariatric technique for dealing with hunger.

Zone or paleo for fitness
I never said people couldn't have intolerances. I said that paleo's reasoning behind it is unscientific. It's not because grains are so "new" and vegetables are so "old." I am only talking about the science of evolutionary biology. Check out the links if you want to know more.

confused
It seems like it gets bigger because the swelling goes down. Right after surgery there is basically no room in there because of the swelling. By 6 weeks most of the swelling is down and then the stomach "relaxes" over the next 6 months or so until it can hold between half a cup and a full cup, depending on your individual anatomy. None of this is the stomach stretching and it is normal and expected.

I'm 13 days out... Purée help!
For me purée could be thick but no chunks. Soft could have chunks. Check with your doctor. The thicker the food, the more satisfying it will feel and the longer it will last for you.

jelly like substance in stool
Just mucus and totally normal. It just means you got a little irritated. Your body was trying to ease things through.

Juicer for christmas
Beware of calories and sugar in fruit juice. You can take in a lot of calories and it can make you have bathroom issues among other things. I love vegetable juices though! Just make sure to pour everything through a strainer when you are on liquids and remember juice won't have any protein.

I got food-policed at 7.5 months out :(
I don't think I am going to do this. I don't think it would add any peace in my marriage! By the way the scale hides our weights from each other by default.

Zone or paleo for fitness
I meant it's not backed up by science that we didn't evolve to eat grains, and most of the fruits and vegetables and meats we eat now are nothing like what our ancestors ate either. http://m.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/the-paleo-diet-isnt-necessarily-ideal-an-evolutionary-biologist-says/2013/04/22/986f3878-a2bb-11e2-be47-b44febada3a8_story.html http://hells-ditch.com/2012/08/archaeologists-officially-declare-collective-sigh-over-paleo-diet/

Gross, bathroom question
Actually since the gall bladder is gone, the bile goes straight from the liver to the intestines without the gall bladder "holding tank". The bile is used up digesting fat and if it doesn't encounter any fat, it causes osmotic diarrhea. Avoiding fat won't help. I speculate that having a little fat each meal might help for those with no GB who have diarrhea. I eat very low fat and still have watery diarrhea several times a day almost 8 months post-op. I had my gall bladder removed last month and it neither helped nor hurt the diarrhea, but at least I won't have to worry about gallstone attacks anymore.

I had none.

Veteran forum, for vets a year out?
I thought non-vets were allowed to comment, not post. I know several of us were considered vets for a bit before the rules changed.

My Lunch: A Pictorial Attempt To Show You Life Will Be Normal
I eat food so spicy some Indian people won't touch it. No problem. I eat habanero slices soaked in rice vinegar. I eat sriracha like ketchup. My sleeve is fine.

Attention ! Australian Sleevers
Woohoo congratulations! We are doing well. I'm looking forward to getting back in my normal routine but enjoying the break too, especially silly the break from work! I rode my bike to and from mass today (about 20 minutes each way). Not too bad but I'll stay inside out of the heat the rest of the day! Looking forward to running tomorrow but I will need to do it early. Anybody have plans for NYE? We are going to a dinner concert at the Brisbane Jazz Club which is right on the river, so as a bonus we get to see the fireworks at midnight! I am so excited about the dress I bought and will have my husband take a photo when I am all dressed up.

Protein Powders Drinks etc Aussies only
Bumping this to say that I have found Musashi P High Protein (not the Low Carb) to be the best value so far in Australia. 170 calories and 30 grams of protein in 45g of powder. The instructions say to make it up with 300 ml of milk or Water. I have tried the iced chocolate so for and found it too watery with 300 ml. 200 ml is perfect for my taste, still quite thin like chocolate milk and not a very strong of protein-y taste. I haven't tried with milk as I don't want the extra calories and have read that the body can only handle so much protein at once. It mixes up easily and leaves no sludge. You can get it pretty cheap from Chemist Warehouse. I was previously using Optifast VLCD at 152 calories and only 17 grams of protein. I think this is cheaper as well. I will be ordering a big tub of chocolate and a small one of vanilla to try (I have a tough time with vanilla but I will try it).

Carbs And Cocaine
If you are hitting your calorie and protein targets, it is really hard to go over 100 grams of carb a day in my experience. I found this to be true on 800 cals and 40 grams protein, and I find it true now on 1200 cals and 60+ grams of protein. I am almost always under 60 grams of carbs.

Great Article On Low-Carb/high Fat Diets
You are not joking about that. I have a harder time finding shake mixes with a good balance of calories and carbs here in Australia (you are so lucky in the US to have such a huge (pun intended) market for bariatric products), so I started looking to see if I could find recipes to use WPI and make my own shakes. Well it turns out that lots of people's idea of a healthy protein shake has 500+ calories for like 10 grams of protein!? I did find a brand of shakes I can tolerate for 170 calories and 30 grams carbs and not super expensive (called Musashi High Protein) so I am super happy about that!

I got food-policed at 7.5 months out :(
Very powerful! And that is sort of how I felt when I got so upset yesterday. "You loved me 70 lbs ago so what is your problem now??" I think we all tend to be the food police sometimes especially after we have been successful. There is no non-smoker more annoying than an es-smoker in the first year, right?

I got food-policed at 7.5 months out :(
Thanks for these. Especially the first one made me say Wow! I used to get so annoyed because there would be something nice in the cupboard and I might get one taste, next time I went back it was gone. He is a real "finisher" and nothing is ever safe if it is open and he wants it. I just never made that connection before. For me, I would typically moderate myself because of guilt. That is, unless it was secret food. In which case all bets are off. So I know he doesn't hide his eating but I never cottoned on to the fact that if it is open maybe he can't resist. I just chalked it up to thoughtlessness and greed. I guess we will see how it goes with those chocolates.
