  1. I saw elsewhere that you avoid sugar and flour. Surely Quest bars have both? Unless they are gluten free and somehow sugar free? Which seems doubtful since people seem to get addicted to them. Luckily/unluckily they are not sold anywhere I have seen in Australia so I have yet to try one.
  2. That sounds amazing! How cool that you are coupling a holiday with exercise. For me it used to be seeking out all the local food to try.
  3. It is but you will manage at most half a banana and 1 tsp peanut butter and be full!
  4. Did Santa bring you anything to make you healthier or more active in 2014? Among other things, I got a Fitbit Flex to replace my One (I didn't want the Force because I wear a watch) and a Fitbit Aria scale! As an added bonus it weighs lighter than my other scale!
  5. Thanks but I'm over 7 months out.
  6. You can blend spaghetti meat sauce with a few cooked noodles too. Or canned beef stew. Get a rotisserie chicken and some cans of chicken vegetable Soup. Add two cups of the chicken to one can of soup and purée that. You can do the same with other Soups such as takeaway hot and sour or tom yum soup. You can also have Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, banana mashed with smooth Peanut Butter (I was told I didn't need to purée the banana but just mash it). Remember you don't need to worry as much about calories or carbs in the purée phase. You won't eat enough to matter.
  7. Get some strawberry flavored syrup instead. Strawberries were one thing I couldn't have until several months into solids.
  8. I think if people question it, it's more about them than you. If you need surgery, maybe they are fat too? Also, people lie to us to be nice. With a BMI of 43 and 4'11" I was told I carried it well. I didn't. Here is a picture to prove it.
  9. Um why does she think that? Sounds fine to me.
  10. I find that if I concentrate on drinking my water and I don't eat and drink together, it helps curb grazing.
  11. Search these forums for Low BMI and you will find a lot of others in a similar situation as you.
  12. You will vomit before you will do any damage. The valve at the top of your stomach is not strong enough to withstand that much pressure. But if you follow the guidelines and pay attention, you won't even have a chance of causing any issues.
  13. It's pretty normal. If it lasts more than a month talk to your gynecologist. You may need a D&C.
  14. One thing is your taste will change after surgery so don't buy in bulk.
  15. Didn't your surgeon recommend any particular type of shakes? Please call and ask them.
  16. Be careful with the Smooth Move tea. It uses senna which can cause damage to your intestines with continued use. There are better options. Speak to your surgical team and see what they suggest.
  17. Yes whey is a protein source. The shots are usually collagen or gelatin, which are low quality proteins that your body can't really use.
  18. I started to get a sore throat Saturday and I tipped it over the edge into a full-blown head cold with lots of sinus pain. I feel like I have a hangover but haven't had a thing to drink. I think all the shopping and running around yesterday was the last straw. My husband is sick too but not as bad as me. So we have cancelled our plans for the evening and are going to lie low. Taking panadol cold and sinus and I hope it kicks in soon.
  19. Your story is so wonderful. We are all improving our lives so much! Not to mention the money saved on cab fare, food, and everything else!
  20. You have a different "issue" I suspect. Lots of women get their periods soon after surgery even if they have been very irregular for years. Your hormones start to regulate well before you lose significant weight. And be careful. That copious clear discharge can indicate the time in your cycle when you are very fertile. Look up "egg white cervical mucus" if you are curious. I hope you are using protection if necessary.
  21. Just to clarify, we don't have a pouch but a sleeve.
  22. Good to hear from you Karen! You have done so well!
  23. Whey is one kind of protein. It is the normal one. There is also whey protein isolate (WPI) for people who have trouble with lactose. Egg protein, soy, pea, or hemp are some others. If you don't have a special reason you probably want to skip the special ones because they cost more and can taste worse. But if you are lactose intolerant or vegan you will appreciate them.
