  1. You might also look in the Protein Powder section of the Food and Nutrition forum for more ideas.
  2. Canned chicken salad for lunch and ham / cheese roll ups for dinner. Heaven. I actually couldn't remember and had to look it up on MFP.
  3. Calories in/out is just one theory and actually doesn't have a lot of science behind it, despite that people are always saying it. I am convinced that a big reason bariatric surgery works is that it drastically raises protein and cuts carbs, while increasing the feeling of satiety. That is a lot of mechanisms working together. You can cause your surgery to fail by reducing your protein and increasing your carbs to pre-surgery ratios. In fact that is pretty much the only way to manage to eat a lot of calories with the sleeve.
  4. thanks so much!
  5. It has to be calcium carbonate not citrate. That's because your body uses almost all the calcium citrate. You need some of the calcium to go all the way through. Your body only uses about 40% of calcium carbonate. The good news is carbonate is the cheap one. You shouldn't go over 1800 mg a day. It didn't do anything for me but then I have to take Questran 3x a day rather than some people who can get by with half a dose a day. I think my liver produces more than the normal amount of bile?
  6. First it is probably acid. Right after surgery you should be on a PPI go control the acid which feels just like hunger. Second it can take some time for the grehlin to exit your system. Follow your plan and be strong. It could also be head hunger. It takes determination. It usually gets better in a few days.
  7. At a concert at the Brisbane Jazz Club!
  8. Try this link for the calcium. It needs to be calcium carbonate (the cheap one). http://www.healingwell.com/community/?f=26&m=1688860
  9. Ok I tried with 3/4 cup tomato juice and 1/4 cup water and it was ok. And much less carbs than the OJ. Looks like I need to take it 3x a day right now so that will be helpful. It is helping though!
  10. You might find some suggestions in this thread helpful. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/292197-staple-foods-for-the-liquid-phase-phase-1/
  11. Hi sheilarae, good for you for aiming to add more activity into your life. This thread is for the Couch to 5k running program. I think the January challenge might be a different thread. But of course you can stick around this one too. Edit: I don't think the January challenge has started yet. Here is the December one: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/289757-december-fitness-challenge/
  12. Questran is dead cheap. It will be cheaper than calcium and I couldn't get the calcium to work. Can your DH go to a free or discount doctor to get the RX written?
  13. The Protein comes from collagen. Neither collagen nor gelatin can be absorbed and used by humans. So these are a waste of money and time. Sorry.
  14. Great info. Can you please post it to this thread too: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/292197-staple-foods-for-the-liquid-phase-phase-1/
  15. You are doing great! Please PM the user "Alex" who is the founder of this site and tell him your old and new usernames so he can merge them. He can probably reset your old password so you can use your old username.
  16. This happens to me just before I have bathroom problems. Those bathroom problems come from bile salts building up in my intestines and sucking water in with them, and will be followed by diarrhea within 5 minutes after the rumbling. I have just started taking medicine to help this so hopefully the rumbling will ease off now.
  17. Lots of bandsters are successful. One of them is Alex Brecher, the founder of BariatricPal. Unless someone is your spouse or child or parent or best friend, you don't really have the right to try to change their mind. The info is there and they are adults who need to make their own decisions. Live your own life and walk your own journey. Best of luck!
  18. A squeeze of lemon or lime. Herbal tea. Or just throw a tea bag into a pitcher of cold water and let it sit for an hour for a subtle flavor. Some people find that just a pinch of salt helps. Or try different temperatures (very cold, just out of the tap, slightly warm, hot). A splash of fruit juice.
  19. Yep that is one of the ones that is not available in Australia. I took the Questran with 3/4 cup of orange juice and 1/4 cup Water. It was ok. Hides it a little less than the full cup of juice but I saved a few calories. No diarrhea since 3 pm yesterday. I will be out and about today. We will see.
  20. Superfatty, I did some experiments today and posted this thread: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/292562-questran-post-sleeve/ I will PM you to be sure you see it since it is off topic for this thread.
  21. Oh and if you are lucky enough to be in the US, there are several drugs in this class (bile acid sequestrants) which are available as pills so you can try those first and maybe skip this whole problem. None of the pills are available in Australia. This is a very old medication with very few side effects. One thing to be aware of is that Questran will cause other medications to absorb less well. You need to take other medications one hour before or three hours after taking Questran. This includes Vitamins and birth control pills for instance.
  22. I am posting this for the next person who is like me and is searching for info on how to tolerate Questran post-sleeve. I was prescribed this to control bile acid diarrhea from a dysfunctional (and now completely removed) gall bladder. I have suffered through diarrhea multiple times a day the whole time since surgery 7+ months ago. Questran is a powder that comes in a can like Protein powder, or in individual sachets. It has to be stirred into a liquid. It doesn't dissolve but stays suspended. You need to put it with at least 3/4 cup of liquid or half a cup of liquidy fruit like applesauce or pineapple chunks. People without sleeves can just chug it and be done. I have managed to take it just stirred into Water a couple times but have a really hard time keeping it down because it has a goopy and gritty texture and sits very heavy. So today I tried some experiments. 1. Tomato juice -- too thick. Came back up. I wanted this one to work because it would be a low-carb serving of veggies. Maybe it would work if I water it down a bit. I may try again. 2. In water with ginger cordial (flavoring sweetened with Splenda) -- tolerable but still gross 3. In half a cup of applesauce -- not terrible but gives the applesauce a gluey texture -- makes it take too long to get through it 4. In a cup of orange juice -- this is the ticket. It totally disappears into the OJ because it is already a bit thicker than water and has pulp. Assuming I don't dump from the OJ I think I am set. Tomorrow I will try diluting the OJ with water and see how diluted I can get away with. I need to take this 2x a day once the diarrhea is under control and I don't love the idea of spending so many calories and carbs on OJ even if it is an all natural one. You probably won't experience this problem but if you do, I hope this thread helps you. I hope Questran helps me and I can manage this problem and not have the one lingering side effect anymore.
  23. Yeah I think you are misinterpreting the article. It talks about the maximum size of the sleeve and talks about hunger returning but not about weight loss stopping. As long as you use the tool properly you should keep losing. That means eat dense protein and dense veggies, do water loading, and don't drink your calories or rely on soft calories. You can do it!
  24. Do y'all mind being merged with the Florida Sleevers thread?
