  1. People will tell you once you hit your lowest weight it’s normal to gain some weight back. My doctor did. This however is unacceptable to me lol and im not going to have it. I think in order to not gain your weight back it seems we must change our entire identity. Ive done that and it’s still hard. I lift, i run, i hike, i do HIIT, and i nail my steps every single day. I kind of think the next step though is equally important. I nail my protein every day even if I over eat or indulge I still get 180 grams of protein. Seems to negate some of the negative side effects. I eat almost all Whole Foods daily and I really try hard to get my carbs from natural sources…I will admit I do drink some whey protein shakes to get my protein in. I eat between 2000-2200 calories a day and i get in on average 14k steps and i just move all day. I train with a man like a man and eat like a body builder. Is it hard, yeah it is….do i have days where i binge once in a while and feel miserable…yeah i do…but as a rule my relationship with food is much better and I forgive myself and get back to it. I am 18 months out and am down to 170 lbs from 341 and it’s been a wild ride but here we are. Still would like to shed 20-30 lbs but we will see. My body has been resisting that a little bit so we will see what the upcoming months brings. I am down from 57%BF to 24% which is a normal range for a woman so I have to give my body some grace and adjustment time to. We shall see what this upcoming year brings. I find it very motivating to shift from weight loss goals to training goals. Testing your body and seeing what it can do is far more satisfying than looking at the scale everyday. Of course i do both to keep in check but if i go and get my body composition checked and im up 2 lbs but its lean mass im happy with that and go on with the day to day fluctuations on the scale. You got this…carry on. Keep pushing. Don’t go backwards. Give your body grace but at the same time dont make excuses. They don’t help you. I highly recommend a trainer if you dont have one they are worth every damn penny. I wouldnt be nearly where i am without mine. I wouldn’t give him up for the world at this point.
  2. To be honest ive been doing my very best to transition to a more whole food approach. I am guilty of protein supplementation to support my weight training however I really just am wanting to fuel my body with single ingredient food. It’s helped with food noise because I dont entertain junk food really but its hard and I do give into temptation once in a while
  3. I had a lap band back in 2012. I started at like 315 I think with that. I got down to about 205. After about two years i started having a bunch of trouble and ended up just taking out all the fluid and coasting with that miserable thing until Jan of 2024. It ended up infected and I was miserable. Anyway in Jan 2024 I had it removed at 341. Puking all the time and pretty much just eating a bunch of slider food. Had gastric bypass at 315 lbs in Oct of 2024 after a little weight loss from my heavy weight at 341. Down to 173 and id really like to shed another 25-30 lbs. I will say ive changed my whole life and I work very hard but it’s been worth it. Hoping I can push through this last little bit because I’ve kind of been in a pleateau for 3-4 months now.

  6. I, like you, used to stress eat. I now live by the mantra that nothing tastes as good as STRONG feels and that when the weight of the world gets heavy…squat that ****. Nothing makes me feel better than training. I love the push. I love to see the progression, i love seeing muscles I didnt think even existed. I also find that if my world is crazy and both and diet and exercise program are not on point (I can generally tolerate one or the other) I kind of lose my mind. Mental health is a real thing we all struggle with and a lot of this is a mental game. Keep going! It’s worth it.
  7. So my nurse practitioner with my bariatric office is a pretty heavy weight lifter which has helped her understand my journey because since I was 3 months post op my goal has been to recomp and lose fat and not muscle. Because I started lifting right away in the 135 lbs ive lost only 11.2 lbs has been muscle mass and 130 lbs has been fat. This is according to inbody which I have done since the beginning of my journey. My muscle loss was early in the journey when I couldn’t eat a lot. I physically couldn’t really get in my protein. I couldn’t comfortably get in calories. First and foremost I AM consistent with weight training. I weight train 3-4 times a week, after every lift I do a 30 minute incline walk, I walk all day and get 12-17000 steps every day, and I also do a HIIT class a couple times a week when it works with my schedule. I am active. Because I am active it does allow me to eat. I eat between 1800-2100 calories every day. I get in atleast 150 g a protein however I like 180 better. My suggestion for you if you want to lose fat and build muscle is to start by walking. Make walking a major priority, find a trainer that can help you get a program together that prioritizes progressive overload, eat as much protein as you can (ideally 1g for every 1lb of ideal body weight or even goal weight is good enough), and watch that change your life. It’s incredible. I still have about 40 lbs to go in my journey but Im getting there.

  11. I had a lap band back in 2012. Lost 100 lbs, ate very low calorie, very low protein due to restriction and just had a lot of pain and throwing up with the thing. Took all the fluid out of it due to that pain and was still throwing up with nothing in the band but I coasted through life with the thing for 12 years. Jan 2024 it got infected and i had it removed. I did the bypass because I am not going to deal with reflux or anything like that. I had the bypass at 325 lbs a year ago and today i am 183. Proud of that and it’s been a lot of rewarding work both mentally and physically. Although im not 100% sure how much of the weight loss is the work i put in VS the surgery it doesnt really matter and I am better off today VS yesterday. Good luck on your decision your Dr. hopefully can help you but this whole thing has changed my life for the better! The band was the worst thing ive ever done for myself metabolically and mentally. Getting as low as 205 all to rebound to 341 over time based upon what im able to eat comfortable is a mind game. It didnt work for me
  12. Thanks everyone for the feedback. I went to my one year follow up appointment yesterday and they were pretty amazed with my progress. They said they barely ever see someone in a normal fat % range and she told me im at goal. Goal for her maybe. Not goal for me. She literally told me to follow the recommendations of my trainer because it’s clearly working and to disregard that of my dietician lol. Funny. Thankfully she even told me not to cut calories really and to continue to the corse. Navigating these next 30-40 lbs in a healthy way will be a good time im sure but im here for it and want to continue to blow expectations. Thankfully also my iron which was trending how is now normal. Also hoping after my at home sleep study i can ditch the CPAP. I also included there fancy fat scale thing which for right now im proud of despite being between 183-185 for a month.
  13. Ok looking for some feedback. today is my 1 year post op day. My starting weight was 341, surgery weight being 315 and today 185. I still want to lose another 40-45 lbs. How did year 2 go for all of you guys? Any tips to maximize year two? The last month or two things have slowed down but in the last two months ive still managed to lose 13 lbs. I weight train 3x a week, get 15-20k steps a day, take a couple HIIT classes and run when I can so I dont think i can add in more exercise even though I love it. Here are in my inbody stats over the last year

  17. Cheap and heaven on earth is a premiere caffe late shake and a shot or two of expresso. It’s truly heaven. I feel like im cheating for sure!
  18. My lap band removal was terrible. I lost a lot of weight in the beginning and ended up gaining all my weight back and then some after a couple years of having the band. I kept it about 10 years. I had my band out last January and ended up having bypass last October. The band removal was very uncomfortable, i had a drain and I just felt overall terrible compared to bypass which was an easy surgery for me….that band was the Bain of my existence personally….bypass a lot lot lot better so far for me. Good luck and get that miserable thing out.

  21. I am not to goal yet but I can tell you that as long as I keep my protein high i seem to lose weight independent of actual calorie goal. I am 6 months out and am shooting for 130 grams of protein and somewhere around 1500 calories. Continuing to lose a couple lbs a week even though it’s not terribly linear lol.
  22. Spartan Maker thanks for the feedback. I am doing my best to increase my physical activity every day. I am weight training with the a trainer 2x a week and I’ve been trying to get in 30-45 minutes of cardio 2-3 times a week to. I do agree I probably need to do my best to up the intensity. I think I’ll start couch to 5k and start jogging. Lately my protein has been variable. I always get 70-80 but I know I would like to get more like 150. On a good day I get 110. My calories have been anywhere from 900-1300 depending on the day and if I work long hours. My hunger is generally fair. I do get hunger cues and what not but it’s not terribly overwhelming. I have been feeling great overall. I would say as far as processed foods the main thing I eat processed is the shakes otherwise I have been trying to eat Whole Foods. I am a nurse and work 12 hour shifts and I do need To do better about getting a little additional physical activity after my shifts. This is a journey but have been blessed with feeling good and generally have good energy.
  23. Question for you all with experience with going on GLP-1s after surgery. First of all I started out at 325 before I started my pre op diet, Day of surgery i was 315 (Oct 2), Tomorrow I am 4 months post op gastric bypass and I am down to 259.8 (55 since surgery and 65 since the pre op diet)Anyways, I also have a failed attempt with the gastric band back in 2013. Lost 100 lbs only to have complications and gain it back so thats part of my side story. My Dr. recommends GLP-1 starting now because of my high BMI and how much I want to lose after surgery. Personally i would prefer to start this after I’ve lost all the weight I can with diet and exercise and have plateaued. What is your experience with this. I am always wondering if im on track. I would ultimately like to see 160-175 but I guess I wont know until I get there. Any feedback or experiences would be great! Thanks
  24. Learn2cook I am a nurse so I work a busy job as well. I have many goals such as becoming financially free, living a more sustainable life and finding a life partner at some point to name a few. As far as my health and fitness goals, I want to be strong. I want to be able to hike, and raft rivers and adventure. I dont want to be hindered by my weight anymore. I dont need to be skinny but i do what to be somewhat a normal weight. Before surgery I did try waygovy and was working out a lot so I was pretty optimized prior to surgery however i didnt lose a ton of weight with waygovy despite tracking and trying to be really mindful. My bariatric surgeon basically told me the indicator of my success is how much i can shed in the first year so i am determined. I am just hoping to get some feedback for people who have had a band before and went for revision. Thanks for your sincere reply Brittany
