lonestarstategal reacted to Rockpaperthinner in Leaving for Mexicali Tomorrow, Am I Missing Anything?
I didn't want to start a whole new thread, but I just wanted to let everyone know that my surgery went amazingly well. Everything I researched about Dr. Aceves was accurate. He was amazing, the staff at Almater is fantastic. I did a really detailed post on my blog if anyone is interested on how it went. Down 17.2 lbs since last Tuesday, and I know it's kind of early to say but it's easily the smartest decision I've ever made.
    Thanks for all your support!

Researched it for months, found the right Doctor and US based company to coordinate everything for me. Now on pre op diet, fly out to San Diego Monday morning will be picked up by our driver with a lighter me, heading over the border for same day surgery in TJ. Very excited, going alone, not scared at all. Be back home next Friday. Will post my experience when I return home:)

I had my sleeve done yesterday by Dr. Kelly at Hospital Nova. I have nothing but great things to say. I'm a little sore this morning. I wish my back didn't hurt so bad from gas, but it's all good. My doc in the state missed that I had a hernia which was apparently pretty bad. I'm grateful that's fixed also.
I was walking to the loo last night. I'm hoping things continue to get better today.
Negatives: the couch for the hubby sucks. They never brought him blanket or sheets, so he's constantly peeling himself off the vinyl. No bottle Water to brush teeth.
    I'll write more later.

You all crack me up!!! I was so happy getting off the plane at home. No more seat belt extensions for me!!!!I'm 9 days post op...gotta say the liquids are very hard. I was aloud to add milk yesterday so i have added silk almond milk, a lot less calories than milk and more Calcium and no gmo (genetically modified organisms) I mix that with a scoop of Syntrax Cookies and cream and it fills me up really nice. I still can not get 64 oz of liquids, lucky if I get 32. I'm down 20 pounds since a week pre op. I can't wait till our 4th of july picnic so I can have a bite of something

I flew in around 10:45 am, and Samuel was already outside..he took me and hubby straight to Oasis, i checked in was given a room, was told to undress they gave a gown and thigh high compression stockings to put on.
Immediately after i was taken to get chest xrays, lab work, ekg and was taken back to my room..all the doctors and nurses were awesome there were 4 of us waiting for surgery..they advised me i would be last because the 3 before me already have complications..which was ok with me.. I was in no hurry because i chatted alot with the staff..oh before i forget they weighed me.i was 242 lbs...down 14 lbs while on my preop diet..
At 8 pm Dr. Garcia came into my room, he apologized for taking so long then he explained the surgery and drew on his ipad what he was gonna do...adding the removal of my gallbladder..10 minutes later i go to the OR..they start prepping me..before i know it im back in my room.
The treatment that i have had (btw im still in the hospital) has been outstanding, not even in the US was i ever given this treatment...

lonestarstategal reacted to Sassafras in Doc changed our hospital b/c other hospital equipment is "broken and sub-par"
After Dr. Kelly being upset with the staff at florence too and canceling his future surgeries there while we were there, I don't believe this was about Mi Doctor. I believe that is just what we were told. In my honest opinion, I believe Dr. Kelly is extremely picky about how he wants things and has very high standards (almost too high for MX) and I believe this leads to him being a hard surgeon for the staff to please (which you could see as a good or bad thing). Personally, I love for my surgeon to be a perfectionist but I would NOT want to work for him ha ha.
Bottom line: I had surgery at Mi Doc in Aug and liked it. My hubby just had surgery at Florence and we liked it too. I honestly believe you will receive great care in either facility. I did not mean to feed into any rivalry or competition I was going by what the coordinator told us and felt like I owed it to VST to share the information. Glad everything is ok at Mi Doctor!

lonestarstategal reacted to HopefulintheNW in I went a little crazy this evening
Ok, I went on a bit of a crazy spending spree this evening. I ordered from Amazon, Unjury, and Bariatric Choices and I spent, hmm, lets see, about $152! OMG! I just couldn't help myself! I ordered Protein Soups, Protein Drinks (clear kinds like Isopure and Protidiet), mixing cup, Unjury's starter pack, a portable hand mixer, etc (I have some weight watcher powder packs here that I can barely stomach because they don't mix well in my shaker bottle with the whisk ball, I am hoping the little portable mixer will do the trick). Earlier today, I bought a thermos, tea, various gummy vitamins, and crystal light water bottle packs at Target. I am SO excited and ready for this weight loss journey to begin! I am scheduled for surgery with Dr. Ramos Kelly on July 15th at Oasis Hospital, I will spend 2 days in the hospital and 2 nights in the hotel, although, I am thinking of staying an extra night in the Lucerna hotel for my peace of mind, "just in case". I know you understand when I say I can hardly think of anything else. They would like me to start my preop diet 2 weeks before, but I am thinking of starting 3 weeks before so I can feel even more confident. I am so proud of myself for doing this, and although I am a bit nervous, I know that I am making the right decision for me! I have a skinny, healthy person inside of me just dying to come out!

I'm in Mexico as we speak and I put my AT&T iPhone on airplane mode and I connected to wifi. I also downloaded an app called "text plus" and it gives you a number so you can text your friends without it being international. If they download it you can even call them for free. But I just use Skype for that. Also if you have an iPhone you can still text from text message ONLY if the other person has iPhone as well. You will know because on the bottom of the text message where you type it will say "iMessage" I don't recommend you use your phone from its data my dad did that in Mexico for 2 weeks and paid 800 dollars! Not worth it trust me. If you want to avoid all that try my tips.

It was not a movie that I would want to see in 3D for sure but I did watch it.
If you can get past obsessing about the fact that someone has a scissors and staple gun working over an internal organ you will be fine.
Sounds like a B movie plot: Psycho Office Manager.

I've been trying not to watch cause I thought it would be rough. I ended up biting the bullet and watching it a few days ago and was pleasantly surprised at how not-bad it seemed. Almost comforting to know what exactly is happening in there. I didn't expect that.
