Anything you eat standing up or off anyone elses plate also doesn't count. Those are well known dieting "facts"!

That's like the cookie crumbs at the bottom of the bag, aren't cookies, they are crumbs. That comment made me laugh. I log everything I eat into my Fitbit.

    Preach it brother, PREACH IT!
Funny thing is, my scale is doing the same thing now that it did in WW. Difference is, I am not tortured 24 X 7 wanting to eat.

I recently went somewhere to eat and they brought out complimentary french fries and for a split second I thought..."well if it's free then I don't have the log the calories". I quickly laughed at how my brain works hard trying to keep me fat and tossed the fries after all.

Terry, really glad I looked back on some of the blogs of the past week and saw this one. It is so true on how it is so easy for us to look at your failures and not at our victories. I was thinking about the markers you talked about and was reminded of a Biggest Loser episode from several years ago. The contestants had been competing for several weeks and the show took them out to a football field and had all of these bags on the field. In each bag was some sort of product that weighed as much as that particular contestant had lost in the previous weeks. Then the contestants had to walk across the field carrying that bag of weight. They were amazed at how heavy the bags were and how tired they were after carrying them. That was their marker. So, having said that, the last 2 weeks have been a little disappointing to me. I was banded on January 23rd and including pre-op have lost 27 lbs and am excited about that, but, I have been at that weight for 2 weeks now. I know I shouldn't be bummed, but wish I could get the scale to move. So, last night my son and I were at Target and were passing the exercise area. On the end of the aisle was a display of weights. I picked up the 20 lb weight and was a little surprised at how heavy it seemed. I have lost that 20 lb weight plus 7 more. If I had to carry around that bag with 27 lbs up and down a football field I would be exhausted. That was my marker. If you had to carry a bag with all of the weight you have lost how would you feel after walking up and down the field? Maybe a visualization of that bag of weight could be your marker.

I too, have noticed that the scale goes up and down within 2-4 pounds since joining the gym. I work hard there for me. Being out of shape, overweight and over 60 it will take awhile at the gym but at least I am doing something.

Great message Terry. One way to build those markers is by rewarding yourself so that you associate the reward (non-food) with your NSV. For example, when I could ride a certain distance I rewarded myself with a new road bike. That was pretty big reward but was all the more special because my husband initiated it.
Another reward I gave myself was a new gold watch when I hit a scale goal. Since then I've had another link removed and it is loose again.
    Keep up your great work!

If you are like me you didn't learn it because you confused your love of eating with your love of food. Now with the band curbing your love of eating, you can really concentrate on your love of food. Family went out to breakfast this morning and I am on mushies from a fill, but I took a bite of my wife's bacon and just closed my eyes and savored the complex smoke flavors, enjoying the sensuous texture of the bacon and fat as it rested on my tongue. Now that is the love of food :-) Previously indulging my love of eating would have had me eating 1/2 a pound of that same bacon.

You'll do fine. I had my 3rd one on Friday. Every doctor has their own after fill diet, just follow it. Mine is 3 days liquid, 3 days mushies and then back to the full diet. Today, I start mushies. I am having meatballs for dinner.

I need to follow your lead and clean my closets too. Since everything fits and I like it all it is hard to choose. I do think I like clothes better now than ever. Size 10 jeans are just too much fun. !

I went to a tailor to get some pants altered. Thought it might be cheaper than buying new pants when I already had plenty of tips to match!
She asked me why I bought my pants so big! Made me feel great!!!
I am out of the plus department for the first time in more than 23 years! Was able to buy some khakis in the regular department last week and kind of wish I had bought them one size smaller than I did.
By the way Terry, I live for the Kohls coupons and sales!

Well said....there is a life after lap band...
I am Now NORMAL...I no longer diet, count calories or measure/weigh food portions (not that I needed to with the band)
I go to parties, drink beer, enjoy life's little culinary pleasures, EVERYTHING a normal person does....don't run away from cookies, ice cream, chips and dip......I just don't make a pig of myself...ANYMORE
A normal person ALSO, as you have pointed out, EATS LESS...they may do it out of habit, I do it because of corrective surgery....(bu they don't need to know that)
A normal person ALSO stays very active....whether in the gym, cycling, kyacking, hiking, sports, WHATEVER..ALL of the above....
We call it diet and exercise...they don't even think about it...just enjoy it....and call it NORMAL
There IS LIFE AFTER all of this....there is an end....

Plication is where they fold the stomach in on itself and then so it to hold that shape. I had a partial plication, but my Dr. does it to help prevent slippage. Here is a link to a good explanation.
