I need some guidance....
I want to participate in this ride, this fall. http://www.skinnytireevents.com/page.cfm?pageid=20063 To do it, I am going to have to train like crazy, starting with a spin class 3 times a week. My problem is I don't know what I will be capable of with the reduced calorie intake from being banded. Now, I know I will be able to do this next year, if not this. BUT I do not want to set myself up for failure on a goal that is unobtainable. So, does anyone have any experience being newly banded and training for an extreme sporting event? BTW, the Dr. doesn't have any objections from a surgical standpoint.

Coffee already has a flavor, why would you put anything in your cup besides more coffee???

5 weeks post op and ive gained
The instructions my Surgeon gave me said that during the healing phase (time before your first fill) that a patient may stop loosing, or even gain. It is one of the reasons that I am logging everything I eat and watching my calories like a hawk. As for not seeing your surgeon, Tina, he has seen it all. You have a partnership with him, it only works if you see him and are honest with him.

Best Tuna salad I have ever had...
I was banded 1/7/13 and I am in my mushie stage. I make a pot of the steel cut oats at the beginning of the week, and then each morning I take half a cup for my Breakfast. Right now, I will add a little hot Water to make them a the proper consistency. That and I follow the rules and eat them very slowly, making sure they are throughly chewed. The steel cut oats have a different texture than rolled oats and I have come to like them more.

Best Tuna salad I have ever had...
I'm still in the healing phase Donna, I will be up to a cup of food eventually, but my surgeon wants me to be uber careful about putting pressure on the band.

I love Greek non-fat yogurt
I use it as I would sour cream, if I am eating yogurt, I go for one of the flavored varieties. The plain, I use to give my cooking added nutrition and flavor.

You will not believe how good things taste now. The band is curbing your love of eating, now you are free to concentrate your love of food. As for over eating, I sit down at the table with my 1/2 cup, when it is gone, I am done, soft stop or no soft stop. Mistress Band taught me the hard way what will happen if I go back for seconds, besides if I only eat my pre-measured amount the changes of me stretching my pouch or causing a band slip are negligible.

I love Greek non-fat yogurt
I have been putting it in my soup, my refried beans and tonight I used it to moisten my tuna salad by mixing it with the low fat mayonnaise, I like the tartness that it adds.

coffee question
Find a good shop in your area that roasts their own beans. There are many variety of coffees that are naturally low in acid. I use www.roasting.com, they have a pamphlet that rates the acidity level of their various beans.

Liquid preop diet starts tomorrow
And tomorrow you will probably wake up with a head ache. Keep your eye on the prize, a tool that will help you regain control of your life.

coffee question
My Dr. has absolutely no problem with regular coffee (I was worried he would since he is LDS), his only concern was hidden calories in what people put into it. I drink it 7 days a week.

So proud of myself right now :-)
That is what it is all about Mickey, taking of your own life back! Good job. Keep your eye on the prize and keep moving forward. Great Job.

Help I am starving
Ear plugs? I'm not making light of your discomfort. But many/most of us have gone through the pre-op diet discomfort. My LB nurse told me that it would make me appreciate my band more and she was right, I am a little over 2 weeks post op and I couldn't be happier. You can do this, focus on the prize, prove to yourself that you will be able to make this tool work for you for the rest of your life, working through the discomfort of the pre op diet. The first couple of days are the hardest as your body detoxes from all the poisons you have been feeding it. All you have to do is get through this time and you will have a tool that will help you get what you want most, to be free from being controlled by food.

so sick of this
