  1. Had mine done today, everything went will except the surgeon was running late. At home now, heating pad and popsicles are my new best friends.
  2. Well, I guess I will find out how to deal with it soon enough, I am siting here in my surgical gown waiting to be taken back to the OR
  3. Surgery is tomorrow AM, I have been on the pre-op diet for 10 days and dropped 13 pounds. I haven't really had to deal with cravings because I was so miserable from only eating 1000 calories a day, cravings didn't matter. But I have noticed that while my physical hunger has been diminishing to where I am comfortable, my emotional hunger has been kicking into over drive. All the little things that I ate, not because I was hungry, but because I wanted the comfort that eating them provided. This is what scares me more than anything else, the lap band will help control the physical hunger, but how do I control the emotional hunger? Terry
  4. 8:15 Monday morning, only one more day. Made broth and froze it today, did my clear liquid shopping. Church tomorrow morning, and then figure out how to take my mind off it in the afternoon. Been craving comfort foods even though I am not really hungry, more nerves than anything else.
  5. Surgery on Monday, and the pre-op diet is nasty. I am not sure whether it is to shrink the liver, or prove that you have the will power to make the band work
  6. There was one down in Payson, but he wanted something like 500 a fill. There was another one at the Foothill Family Practice, but the machine he used was broken, had been for 2 months and the nurse didn't know when it was going to be fixed.
  7. Cunner, I am looking forward to it, I have always been fat and active, which is why I have had two knee replacements. One of the wakeup calls for me was last year as I was trying to build up my speed and base miles was that the ligaments in my knees started complaining the strain from pushing 280 pounds up above 15 MPH for multiple hours. That was one of the reasons my surgeon fast tracked me, I wanted to be healed before biking season begins this year.
  8. I prop my laptop on my treadmill and get engrossed in a game, before you know it an hour has passed.
  9. 2muchfun, The best thing I ever did was to have my knees replaced, I only wish I had done it sooner rather than deal with the pain and lack of mobility. I let my right knee goes so long that I wore a groove in the top of the bottom bone.
  10. I hate the taste of the canned broth in the market, so I was thinking of making my own.
  11. My goal last year was to do a century, but by the time I was able to get up to a decent speed (15mph for an hour) I knees started to hurt from the strain. So, with my surgery scheduled for 1/7/13, is it unrealistic to try a century later on this year? Also, any tips for the lap band and a cyclist?
  12. And I must say, the pre-op diet SUCKS.
  13. I considered Mexico, until I tried to find a Dr. who would do a fill in Salt Lake City. I soon learned that any money I saved on the surgery, I would use traveling to a different state to get the fills. After care is going to be important for me as well, I am scheduled for surgery 1/7, I already have the nurses's cell phone number with instructions that if I am experiencing a problem once I am banded, I am to call, day or night. And in the event that I need an un-fill, she or the Dr. will do it right then, regardless of the hour.
  14. Self pay, attended the seminar on 12/19, submitted my paperwork 12/20, approved 12/26 pre-op diet class 12/28, surgery 1/7. I asked them to fast track me if possible, and they did. I am doing 10 days of pre-op diet rather than the traditional 14, but that is apparently within the bounds of normal. Terry
  15. Ok, my user name is poperszky (go figure). Just started my pre-op diet today.
  16. Just started pre-op diet, daily limit is 800 - 960 calories. Just enjoyed a yummy Premier nutrition chocolate shake for breakfast. Made a shopping list for pre and post op and I am headed to Costco in a few. Went out to my favorite hamburger joint last night to say good bye to a few of my favorite foods, Hot Pastrami, Onion Rings, Diet Coke and a Chocolate shake (No, I didn't eat all that, I shared it with the rest of my family). 10 days until surgery and I am ready to do this thing.
  17. Surgery is scheduled for January 7th
  18. In a nutshell... My name is Terry and I give up, I can not do long term weight loss through will power alone. My BMI is currently 40 and I am 110 pounds over my ideal weight. I am very active physically, but have always been able to out eat my physical activity. While my health is good, I am 57 years old and have had both knees replaced, if I do not find a way to get down a healthy weight, I am not sure how much longer I will be able to maintain my level of activity. I went through a brief period of depression when I came to the conclusion that I was going to have to resort to bariatric surgery, but for the first time in a long time I have hope that this may be the tool necessary get my eating under control. My insurance covers LB after a 12 month Dr. supervised diet. If I could maintain a diet for 12 month without the surgery, I WOULDN'T NEED THE SURGERY! So, I will be self pay. I have picked a surgeon, submitted my paperwork and should hear back this week. In talking to the surgeon's lapband nurse at the seminar, they can process me fairly quickly and I am hoping for a January surgery date. The lifestyle changes that worries me the most are the speed of eating, since my family often wonders if I chew my food at all based on who quickly it goes down AND separating drinking and eating, given that for most of the life, a bite of food is always immediately followed by a swallow of liquid. But having discussed this with my wife and my two kids (12 and 9) I believe I can do it.
