I also want to add that since I have been in the medical field for 30 + years that once you are given a diagnosis code of anything obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure that diagnosis code given by a medical doctor stays in your record forever whether you are cured or not its part of your medical history forever. I was obese, it is still listed as one of my diagnosis even though I am no longer obese it is part and always will be part of my medical record. Some people just have issue of their own and take everything one says personally when it never applied to them. I in no way try to be demeaning to anyone but state exactly what the op stated that she would still be obese. So whomever has an issue with what I post please take a look in your mirror because it is not me you have an issue with it is yourself.

Im only a month post op but this is how I see it. Think of it as you need to teach your body to be skinny. After all you taught it to be fat; to want and crave the food and amounts of it. Now its time to teach it that some where between 4 and 8 ounces (depending on your Dr) is ok. You will not die of starvation. Remind your self this is head hunger. Find a distraction to cope whether that's drinking more Water, working out, reach out to a friend/lbt. You can do this meet your band halfway.

I too have had to struggle through the holidays. This is my first season with my band. So glad to see I'm not alone. It has given me real insight to the many reasons I use food as a comfort. I am getting back on track& yes it does feel so much better to be on track physically. It is amazing how much I have learned about myself by listening to my tool!!!!

I read so many of these "starting over" posts that I thought I would state the following.
You are not starting over... you are continuing your lifestyle with new parameters. We can;t go back and undo what we ate last week. Just accept it, learn from and make better choices for your future. That is what life with the band is all about.

this forum (as well as aj) has helped me more than anyone knows
it makes me feel never alone
    so you start over..so start
it doesnt matter what you did, it only matters what you DO
beating yourself up over whatever only brings us more down and we are down enough on ourselves dont you think??
so start...eat better, eat smaller amounts, move alittle bit and drink more...everyday is a new day and today is a perfect day to begin to make yourself well

Thank you Deb! I can hardly wait! I'm so tired of always being tired...and exhausted....and uncomfortable! I ready to feel good in my skin...I know that sounds weird...but I am just tired of being fat.
I'm practicing on chewing my food....I must have inhaled it before...because chewing it up seems to take a lot of time... And, I'm trying to learn not to drink with my meals. I haven't quite gotten that down...but working on it.

I'm Donna and I'm new here. I has an appt with a surgeon in 2 weeks. I weigh 285 with a 48.9 BMI. My primary care dr has been talking to me about the lapband, as well as my pain management dr and my lung dr. My primary care and pain dr have had a conference call with a bariatric dr about me so maybe I will get approved. We never know about insurance companies though. They can be fickle.
I used to be over 300lbs, on oxygen, and in a power wheelchair most of the time. My mom died a few years ago and my sister (who was my best friend) died suddenly this year. It has spurred me into not wanting to have my kids and grandkids bury me and go thru this pain so I have been putting alot of energy into getting more active.
I'm off oxygen now and only in my chair about 1/3 of the time but depending on pain levels. I am having a horrible time losing the weight. I have tried to diet on my own, pills my doctor gave me, personal trainer, dietician, etc and nothings working. I have the usual pains of morbidly obesity: asthma, diabetes, hypertension, severe osteoarthritis and degenerative disease and I have had a mild heart attack in my past. My family history is strong for massive fatal heart attacks so my doctors are really helping me work on this. My kids, however, are totally against it. They say if I find the motivation to do all of the pre-op dieting and the post-op then why can't I just find the discipline to do it without the band??
I hope to be one of these success stories some day that I am finding on this forum.

Now, THAT'S funny! It was a wonderous time to grow up. I'm boarder line 60 at 69 and banded in July after some major medical problems like A-Fib! But got 'er done and am happy with results so far. I'm convinced as we age the fat sticks in places we didn't dream of, and its harder to make the ole joints work, but we grew up tough, because we had to learn to swim or sink.

joni2 reacted to The Band & Mia in Ready to Start a New Year!
    Hello All,
Although I have viewed the forums before, I didn't join until today. I had surgery in September 2012 and feel like this will be a great way to stay motivated and connected going into the new year!
I just had my 3rd fill last week taking me to 4.5cc in a 10cc band. I am down 38lbs so far and couldn't be happier with my weight loss progress to this point! I am still feeling pretty tight after my last fill, but it seems to be getting better each day. . .part of it is me learning to eat slower and take smaller bites .
This is also the first time that I am really feeling a good amount of restriction, so I guess the adjustment time is the pay off.
I have been heavy most of my life and struggle with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), Endometriosis, and starting almost two years ago crippling headaches from Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH). I was told the #1 thing I could do to manage the over production of Fluid and pressure on my brain (thus relieving the headaches) was to lose 20% to 30% of my body weight. Enduring one spinal tap to relieve pressure and two major episodes was enough to convince me to take drastic action and get help with the weight loss. So far this is one of the best decisions I have made in my adult life (marrying my husband ranks up there too!).
I look forward to learning, sharing, and growing (in a metaphorical way of course )with all of you!
    Mia
