Follow your doctor's orders. Sip Water until you feel like you can't drink anymore and then get another glass. Walk around as much as possible, but get plenty of rest too!

What an injustice. You are the patient/customer. You need to stand up for yourself and your rights. You should report this incidence to the doctor and if there's no change then report it to his/her boss. I bet the administration would not tolerate this PA treating you that way. They want your money or your insurance's money Good luck and hang in there!

prairiedog reacted to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! in 1 Year Band Anniversary and 175 pounds gone!
Honestly, it feels kinda surreal. Because I've lost so much so fast I don't think the newness has worn off yet. Well that and the fact I'm still losing. But it really does feel amazing. My kids are thrilled, in large part because I'm actually an active part of their lives now. Before I would sit on the sofa, groaning in the effort just to get up and get a soda. Now, I'm constantly on the go with them doing fun stuff like going to the zoo or even shopping at the mall.
I think the emotional change is even greater than the physical one, though. For the first time in my adult life, I'm truly happy. I love my life and the person I'm becoming.

A year ago today, January 6, 2012, I had Lap Band surgery. I remember being scared out of mind and seriously considering canceling the whole thing. I cannot not tell how glad I am I didn't give into that fear and went through with it.
I have lost 175 pounds in the last year!
I've lost it by simply monitoring my calorie intake and portion size, making good food choices, walking, and learning to work with my band. I won't lie and say it's easy but it's not hard either. It's work. The biggest adjustment has been getting used to a new, healthy way of thinking and living. I still have a little ways to go before I reach goal, but I'm confident I'll be there by my second band anniversary.
To all those who are told you can't lose a lot of weight with the band, or you are too big or your BMI is too high to be successful with the band- I am living proof that's not true. The band is work and you can be successful with your band as long as you're willing to work for it.
Thanks to everyone for being there for the last year of support and encouragement!!!

Here is a picture of the band:

The band does two things, it creates a small pouch above the band and it adds just enough pressure to the Vagus nerve to dim the hunger signals to the brain. The combination of these two things make it so you're satisfied on much less food for a considerably longer period of time. Essentially, it tricks your brain into thinking "oh, I've had enough!" with only a fraction of the food we used to eat.

    +1
I am not 9 days post op and yes the pre op diet SUX but I lost almost 20 pounds on it and that kept me driving on. Hang in there it gets better and easier as your stomach shrinks the hunger starts to no go away but you start getting satisfied longer between meals (lol I mean drinks )
I have always loved everything about food. I missed the taste more than anything. I was allowed to start eating some poached eggs and my wife laughed at me yesterday because I was talking to my eggs. I have found a whole new love for food now. It is different than before I am enjoying it more now that I ever have.
Take your time and everyone has slip ups don't beat yourself up. Remember you did not get this way over night. You are not able to change your habits in one week. Keep looking at the positives and walk walk walk because it does help.
    Best of luck to you,
    Adam

I read a lot of posts from people who say they got off track because of one reason or another... And I just want to say that you get off track for one reason and one reason only. You choose to.
Now i am sure i will be called out for being insensative but i am as sympathetic as the next person for just cause......but I just do not get the mentality of getting off track because the dog dies, its raining, money is tight, your kids get sick or your job is stressful. I could list a hundred other reasons I have seen posted which covers just about every life situation. And you know what.... While it stinks and you may have got dealt a bad hand....it has nothing to do with your band.
The only excuse I might think is valid is if there is a medical reason you shouldn't or cannot lose for a period of time...and even that is pretty rare I would think.
The band is ever present. It is with you 24/7 to govern your eating. If fed properly it will help you lose weight. If not you will fail it. We are responsible for our own actions and believe me I was the queen of excuses why I chose not to lose weight.... Until I fully committed myself to my band. During my journey life got in the way all the time.... Adult daughter moved home with her newborn which created all kinds of stress in the home...we moved, we rented our other house, I worked 60 hrs a week in a high profile management capacity, my father in law had a heart attack, my 401k suffered, my hubby changed jobs, my other daughter moved back home after college, I hosted partied, baby showers, held my best friends hand while her mother suffered a long illness..... I think you get the point. It's just life. But never during that time did I ignore my band...and it didn't let me down.
Please take my point in the spirit in which it's intended... If you want to lose weight you will. If you want to gain weight you will. If you want to maintain..... You will do that too....because its all about the choices you make.
I wish you all success on your journeys!!!

Hi, all. I was banded yesterday and am doing great. The pain is tolerable. I am just dying to drink something and I have to have an X-ray (with contrast) done first. So, just wanted to let all of my other jan '13 bandsters know that it really isn't bad! Have a great day.

I've told a my immediate family and a few close friends but am stopping there because I know I'll still have to do the work and make the right food choices. As I've read on here and been told by my doc, the band is not a cure, it's a tool. I'll still have to count calories, etc. So now that I'm on the liquid diet, those who don't know me too personally are just getting the story that I'm trying to lose weight and then the days I'm off from work for surgery, I'll just tell them my son or my mom was sick and then when I start losing weight I'm going to tell them how I'm counting calories and exercising. Most people just want something to gossip about - and it's not going to be me

Hi...the preopt diet is hard for the first few days, but don't give in! I've lost 17 lbs so far and surgery isn't until Thursday. The first couple of days I did have Soup for dinner as I couldn't stand not having any 'substance' but I've weaned myself off that. I recenlty discovered powder Peanut Butter and mix it with my chocolate Protein Shake. Remember you can have popsicles and drink lots and lots of Water or crystal light. Keep in touch!

I was just banded on the 10th. I was excited and nervous and everything else in between. Wish you a quck recover and learn from my mistakes.
make sure you can slide off your bed. I had flannel bedsheets and cotton pjs and I had a hell of a time that night and the next day. In addition, my bed is high and I didn't have a stool.
make sure you make accomodations for those first few days.

Just want to say thank you or the support, today has finally arrived about to head to the hospital to get banded. I'm super excited about the thought of the new healthy life that I have been starting and can't wait to continue on my journey. I'm also a bit nervous about the procedure itself and the first couple of weeks after surgery. Once I'm home I'll post on how everything went.

Donyeil thanks for sharing. I am getting banded on the 25th and any positive stories are helping me stay calm pre-op. I've never had any kind of surgery before and I'm ready to get that part over with soon.
Best wishes on your journey. I can't wait to meet milestones together! :-)
