We are going to be twins, both a new life on the seventh. I will certainly be thinking and praying for you,
Yep I have lost 19 pounds since starting this journey. Hope it makes it easier for the doc to do the surgery. Hate to think I lost for nothing. But at least this time don't have a lot of worry about gaining these 20 back like I usually do. They can stay gone, and I am going to send some of their friends to meet them soon. lol

What an awesome doc. I am glad you listened. Seven years ago and endocrinologist told me had i ever considered weight loss surgery. I was taken back a bit cause i wasn't 100 pounds over weight. But he wanted me to do it for my type 2 diabetes. Well being all stubborn and thinking I knew so much more, I got the lap band, he told me I needed the gastric bypass, but nope not me, I didn't need anything so drastic, so I fought for the band. I have gained and lost the same 35 pounds many times over in the past seven years. Never did the lap band help my diabetes. The doc was right. NOW i know what he meant. I am having my band removed and revised to RNY this coming Wednesday. I have about 60 pounds to lose now, I have lost 20 since May. Doesn't sound Like a lot, but hopefully this surgery will reduce or eliminate my need for insulin, and help me lose the weight my very short under five foot body is carrying and give me some healthy years. I never had any horror stories with the band. And I think if I had not had anything done, I would weight a lot more now then if I had no band at all. But I think how much healthier I would have been these past seven years if I had listened to the doc.

Chap stick has always been at the top of most of the lists I've seen. Wear in loose clothes to wear home and bring a pillow from home to use as for belly support for the ride home. I drove 3 hours from home to have my surgery so having a pillow with me for the ride home was priceless.

And they are so spot on most of the time.
I think showing her was a great idea. My stepson had some eye surgery a few weeks ago, he has cerebral palsy and he is non verbal (he never shuts up lol) so I used you tube to show him what was going to happen to him and it really helped when we went. He was prepared for everything. Till after that is, He walked back there like he owned the place and came out giving his dad and I the scolding of a life time, nobody could have mistook his meaning even if they didn't understand him. He was really mad at us. He is fine now.

i wasn't tempted, but that is probably because I am pre op and I knew I could have some and nobody would know, or I wouldn't dump or anything. Maybe some of it is KNOWING YOU CAN"T have it that makes it so hard. So what I am saying is, it might have been easy for me yesterday but sure might not be easy for me after surgery. What you says makes a lot of sense Ellie. If we feel deprived we want it more. We can't let one piece mean a binge, and let it say heck I screwed up so I might as well eat the whole bowl. None of us should do that, if we are pre op, post op, dump or don't dump. We have to do something to change our way of thinking and dealing with this. We can do this.

this is almost me to a T, hubby doesnt talk about it at all, doesnt ask me anything except that he will be there for surgery, I think he is afraid I will ask his 400 lb ass to do it too, but I dont care what he does, he has been overweight since he was 5, claims he knows how to lose weight but chooses not to, whatever, I am ready and almost done, just waiting for the surgery. I dont have any close friends here in Missouri, all my friends are in dallas or mississippi, so yea I am so alone, and wished I had a friend to do this with here close by.

Absolutely! I really love the term "active lifestyle" specifically because it has such a broad scope. We often associate it with running or jogging or (fill in the blank) - and as a result a lot of folks never try to have a more active lifestyle or worse yet, attempt a form of exercise that they aren't ready for and soon abandon. There are enormous health and weight loss benefits in countless sustainable activities. Shopping, mowing the lawn, vacuuming, visiting a theme park, walking the dog, cleaning windows, washing the car, and of course just taking a walk. The options are endless and every single one of them counts!! Adopting an "active lifestyle" means looking for and embracing every opportunity to MOVE. It does NOT have to be synonymous with working yourself to exhaustion!

How long will I be out of work or school?
    Is there a pre-op diet/pre-surgery liquid diet?
Will there be a limit on how much I can lift or cary? How much and for how long?
Will I need to have someone stay with me when I get home? For how long?
How soon can I resume normal household duties?
    What is dumping syndrom?
How soon can I resume taking care of my children?
What kind of pain medication will you be sending me home with?
What supplements do you recommend I take? (If he says “Flintstones” either find another surgeon or realize that he’s not up to date on the latest studies. Flintstones don’t cut it.)
How often will you be checking my blood Vitamin levels for deficiencies? Can I be tested more often if I wish?
How small will my pouch be?
What kind of exercise do you recommend and when can I start?
What about medications after surgery? I take _____. How will surgery impact the absorption rate and effectiveness of this medication(s)?
I have diabetes/ high blood pressure/ other co-morbidity. I know that gastric bypass often, but not always, dramatically reduces or even eliminates these problems. How closely will you monitor these conditions after surgery, and how will we know when or if my medications should be changed or stopped?
Is it possible for my pouch to stretch back out? If so, what can I do to prevent it?
I’ve heard diarrhea and gas are a common side effects. Is this true and is there anything I can do to prevent them?
What do you think is a realistic goal weight for me to achieve and maintain?
How rapidly do you expect me to lose weight? 10 pounds a month? 30? How wide a range is “normal?”
Can I expect plateaus? What do you recommend when I have them?
How long can I expect weight loss to continue after surgery? Will it ever again become very difficult or impossible to lose weight?
How hard will I have to work to maintain my weight loss in 2-3 years?
This is a lot of information to take in all at once. What do you consider are the most important things I need to keep in mind before having surgery?

I was the same way with both surgeries I had the band and bypass was a very lonely process and even though I gave my family the information I received at my appointments and meetings with the doc they never seemed to really get it. I am 7 weeks post op and they still don't understand my diet and try to give me to much food. This website has really helped because I can ask questions and vent and people know things on here that most support people wouldn't. If ya ever need to talk or vent I'm here for ya and I'm sure everyone else on the site feels the same way.

Twice in the last week. I have had a funny encounter. I just so happened to be walking past two separate converstations. (one at work, one at wal-mart) Funny thing was, they were people who were interested in having gastric bypass and had questions, but didn't know who to talk to. I stopped and talked to both of them. The lady at wal mart is already scheduled. She was very nervous, but after I talked to her on the phone, she felt much better. The lady at work has not began the process, but she will soon. Go figure. God put us in certain places at certain times for certain reasons.

The more I read, the more I experience personally, the more I am certain that obesity is a disease much like diabetes, heart disease or cancer. If society and insurance companies viewed obesity as a disease, the approval process would be easier and the emphasis on prevention would be greater!
