It's not easy or everyone would be doing it. But if you can make it thought it well worth the results.

Be realistic in expecting how you will feel after surgery. I wasn't. I had convinced myself that it would be a breeze and I wouldn't have much pain. Truth is that this is a very painful surgery. But, with pain meds of course it is tolerable. As others have said expect nausea and some vomiting. The first two weeks I felt like total crap. But then I started feeling much better! I promise you once you get past the first couple of weeks if you do what your dr. says and eat appropriately the weight will be coming off and you will start feeling great! I had surgery on 11/5 and have lost 54 pounds. I am feeling great and KNOW having this surgery is the best decision I have ever made!

No regrets so far. Surgery 11-26-12....... I haven't had any complications and no trouble tolerating foods......very nauseated and miserable my first day post op. ......the recovery is no joke. ....all you want to do is take pain meds and sleep......(the first week). I'm feeling great now and down almost 40 lbs! You can do it if your heart is in it!!! Good luck!

Vicki Loichinger reacted to snow25 in Having Doubts!
It is a very personal choice, but I can say I have no regrets. I was 258 at my highest weight. My hypothyroidism made it nearly impossible to loose weight and keep it off. After yo yo ing all my 20s and 1/2 my 30s, I decided on the surgery. I didn't have health problems... Yet, but mobility was becoming a factor. At 35 I felt limited in what I could do. I am only 6 days post op, but already feel pretty good and I love looking forward to things I will be able to do. Surgery is no joke. It is a big deal and the first few days, I felt like crap. Even then, though, I kept focused on what will be. If you are not ready, postpone the surgery, learn more about it, and make your choice when you are ready. Good Luck!!

Merry Christmas. I'm making steady progress. I need to focus on exercise more but overall I'm not doing too bad. 345 start...currently 296. I'll take it. Hopefully I'll hit the 50lbs mark today.

Vicki Loichinger reacted to Butterfly2013 in Starting to Regret.....errrrrr!
I get the same thing, "You're Getting What"? "Why"? "You ain't even that big". Funny isn't it how you were fat and thick and big until the surgery comes up, then all of a sudden "You ain't even that big". I tell them "you go exercise, I'll go get fixed. We'll meet up in a few and compare your lose to mine. Oh you say you lost 15 in a high intense cycling class at 5am 4days a week; me, I lost 30 sitting still sippin Protein Shakes and shopping for my future wardrobe...... Good luck ladybug! You'll be fine and if they don't support you during a life saving, life changing procedure such as this, consider them weight loss too!!!

Vicki Loichinger got a reaction from worm2872 in Scared to death. Having pain and not wanting to fall a sleep after the gastric bypass surgery
Are you still in the hospital? or are you home? This is just anxiety. Take you pain meds that are ordered for you and rest. The hard part is about over. You made it through the surgery now you must do what you need to do to recover. Sip Walk and rest. so sleep is important. My thoughts and prayers are with you because I can sense the fear you are going through and it breaks my heart. I pray for comfort for you and peace and that this anxiety will go away. Gently Hugs

Looking forward to you story. And like others have said don't over do. glad you feel so good, but don't be shocked if there is a day here and there that you feel like the rug has been pulled out from under you, that happens. but then every day will be better and better.

Vicki Loichinger got a reaction from Cheryl Barfoot in My finger tips are now hydration meters...
Very interesting. I have not had a problem getting fluids in. And my pee is really clear so i am super happy about that. I was worried pre surgery that hydration would be a real problem and I would be one of those that had to go back to hospital and get iv fluids, but so far I really have been able to drink a lot. Here's to hoping everyone's fingers plump up

Man that's good that you feel well. Don't push yourself too much tho'. When I was a few days out I felt the same way and wound up pushing myself until my body reminded me that I had just had major surgery. Just listen to you'd body man, and you will be fine.

Yeah.. I am home. Made I back home yesterday afternoon. Pain has been very manageable. I'm only asking 1/4 of what was prescribed. Ive been able to watch up and own my street, but after anything that I do I'm exhausted. Ok, I must admit that I thought it was a little weird when everyone post op was talking about needing to pass gas... I so get it now! I feel like I'd be home free with one supersonic fart! :0)
I'm handling Water great and constantly sip, sip, sipping. The shakes are so thick and hard to get down. Yesterday I only was able to get down about 1/2 of one shake.
I have developed a cough and not sure if I can have a cough drop. Anyone leave the hospital with a cough?
Hope everyone pat op is healing nicely.
Simplysouthern I'm especially praying for you. Your journey sounds intense and painful. Hopefully you are on the mend.

For those of you having trouble with milk, this is what I do. Since my powder is already milk based, I have a chewable lactaid with each shake. You can get a box of 32 at walgreens for less than $10 and believe me it's worth it and more! Make sure it's the chewable and not the pills or else that will be another thing you have to crush. Hope this helps!
