  1. So I have been trying to hold off from posting progress pictures because I wanted there to be a noticeable difference when I finally did post. I am down just under 50 pounds (-48.2 today) Pre-op Weight: 325.0 Day of Surgery: 318.0 Today: 276.8 I apologize for poor quality pictures - all I have is my cell phone. I will be trying to take clearer pictures soon. I also have ventured into the dating world! I made a profile on a dating website and have gotten some responses. I haven't gone on any dates yet, but the guy I am interested in asked me to grab something to eat sometime soon (I'm not sure if it's a date really). I told him about my VSG today and he seemed to take it in stride. I had told him that I was working on losing weight and stuff before, but I wasn't sure how the response to the procedure would be because people are so hot/cold. This brings me to my questions about dating. I have not dated a lot as an adult and I always worry about that awkward silence that happens sometimes. Do you guys have any tips for avoiding this? I am kind of an anxious person and this tends to amplify my awkwardness. I'd really love to have a great time when we go out and not worry so much. I may have to get one of my friends to help me pick out an outfit and stuff. Any general tips? Thanks!
  2. Mostly my upper body. I can see my collar bones once in a while now. I have no more double chin. I have started to see it just a tiny bit on my stomach. My body is loathe to lose from my waistline/hips/thighs, so that's probably gonna be the last to go
  3. Yay!!! I hope your surgery went well!
  4. This is totally normal! I had such worries about this pre-op. What if I am having this major surgery and I lose hardly anything? And then again at my longest stall I worried "Is this all I'm going to lose and eventually I'm gonna gain right back?" But I was wrong both times. This is really a lifestyle change and you are going to do wonderful. It's so incredibly worth it. You are not gonna be some odd exception to the rule, you are gonna do awesome. Hang in there! Your surgery is just around the corner!
  5. I gave myself 4 weeks. When I got back to work and was still tired, I was glad I did. If I had absolutely had to, I could have gone back at the beginning of week 3.
  6. I found that once I switched to solid food my weight stalled for a while. I assumed it probably had something to do with fluid retention, which yours may too. If in a couple weeks you are still not on a downward trend I'd start asking questions, but for now you are probably recovering and retaining water.
  7. It must be awesome knowing that this year everyone is getting that new thinner picture of you, you like so vibrant and happy! It's really a wonderful picture and you can tell that you've lost a lot!
  8. This is a hard topic for me. Why are you skipping your period of liquid/puree? The reason for the periods of time is to give your stomach time to heal. Did you get a weekly plan from your doctor? They should have told you the time to stay on liquids and purees. I know it is really hard, but this is a major surgery, and in my opinion, it's worth giving up the food for. There are ways to deal with head hunger and cravings. I really hope you consider at least talking to your doctor about what you're doing, they need to know so that they can help get you back on track. They really don't make up rules for a reason and I don't want to see you end up with a complication that could have been avoided.
  9. You should definitely notify your doctor of this. While it could be something simple, it could also be something serious. At least that way you know and maybe they can get it fixed - I can imagine that it's frustrating. I did just a quick search online and found a ton of reasons - varying from iron deficiency to increased estrogen.
  10. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. I hope we are hearing some good news soon!
  11. Can't she predict you some lottery numbers or something a little more fun? In all seriousness, what a frustrating thing for her to say! I'd be annoyed too. But try and keep in mind that she cares about you and this is her unique and strange way of telling you she cares and is worried.
  12. I know that it is always awful to have to go to the ER, but I am glad that you are getting checked out. It does sound like last week you pushed yourself a little hard and set yourself back lifting a little too much - it's hard when you're used to doing so much more and then you're feeling better and it's easy to slip into hurting yourself again. I am 9 weeks out and my boss had me move a ton of boxes on Sunday and I have been having abdominal pain/burning on and off since then. A good reminder that it takes a LONG time to completely heal and I need to be a little more sensitive to my body. It sounds like you've had just a really hard time all around though, so I do really hope that this is something small that they will be able to treat quickly and get you back on the road to recovery. Let us know how it goes - I'll keep you in my thoughts!
  13. You look fabulous! =) You are gonna be in onederland in no time!
  14. I always feel this way. I read about people who are in 270s and in 22s. I am barely in 24's. But this has always been the case for me - I just carry more weight in my butt/thighs. You are probably just proportioned differently than them.
  15. I started at 325 with a BMI above 50. I am 9 weeks out and down almost 50 pounds. It's working great for me. I think that sleeve is more realistic for my life than bypass, plus I will have lifelong restriction as long as I treat my body right. I am so glad that I didn't get bypass, though my doctor was definitely willing to do bypass had I wanted it. Do what you think will work best for you, not what we or the doctors think because you're the one who will have to live with it. I hope everything goes well in your appointment.
  16. This just sounds like a stall to me. You had surgery about a week after me and are down five or more pounds than I am - so I think we're both pretty much right on target on weight loss. I got stuck in a three week long stall towards the beginning. It was horrible, but it broke eventually. If you're doing all the right things the scale will eventually start to show it again. You're doing great, try and focus on all the NSVs you must be having =)
  17. You are brave going back one week post-op! I was still in a lot of pain and taking naps every day at that point. I'm glad to hear you got there fine =)
  18. I can imagine the scar tissue, as well as the complications the patients getting revisions have had with the band make it a much more complex procedure. Definitely a good reason to make sure your doctor has a lot of experience as well as experience with revisions.
  19. Have you talked to your husband about how you feel? Honestly if I was taking someone I loved along with me on a trip I wouldn't have a second thought about what my coworkers and boss thought about them. I have a feeling he is probably proud to be with you, and that you're the only one worrying about this =) But you will be down quite a bit by then. I'm about 9 weeks out now and down 47 pounds. I feel like a different person sometimes as far as my confidence, which is apparent to people even more than weight I think.
  20. It's so close! It will be here before you know it =)
  21. Congrats! You are doing awesome, keep it up.
  22. I would definitely be interested in information about this too. So far I'm trying a dry skin brush and ab workouts. We'll see how it goes.
  23. I see a big difference ! You look great - no wonder those heads are turning =) Totally your ex's loss! With all that head turning you will have a new guy in no time!
  24. What a difference! You must really be feeling a difference. Oh man, you two have me on a Dr. Pepper craving now - I would kill for one too! Maybe in a few months I'll have just a glass.
