MKinVA got a reaction from scaredoftheunknown in Stopped taking Metformin -- signs of low blood sugar
I have Type 2 diabetes as well. I remember seeing an interview on 60 Minutes a couple years ago where they were interviewing a group of people who had gastric bypass surgery. They mentioned that one of the effects of bariatric surgery was immediate "curing" of diabetes. It seems that the removal of the lower portion of the stomach causes a hormonal change which has a positive effect on blood sugar and how your body processes it. I think I am remembering correctly.

    I will not miss:
    - Catching my breath and feeling my heart pound for climbing the stairs or walking a short distance
    - People looking at my stomach
    - Sitting on the sidelines watching other people have fun
    - Squeezing into an airline seat, asking for an extender for the seatbelt, or buying two seats
    - all those pills for my various co-morbidities (what an awful word!)

Five days out and looking good! Very little pain. Some gas. Some bloating from all this liquid we have to get in... No regrets and not looking back!

I think understanding why this is done is the key to breaking this habit. Someone posted this video a couple weeks ago & I think it really helps to explain why we need to follow this "rule"

Wow! What an honest Weight Watchers leader! I was in WW on and off for probably twelve years. I had no trouble losing some weight (up to 50 pounds at one point), but then I would get cocky and say this was so easy I could do it anytime and stopped counting points and going to meetings. I am probably one of the biggest yo-yoers in the crowd! I would always gain back my losses and then some!

I don't think the banana seeds will be a problem. I have seen a recipe which calls for mashing the banana with a fork until pasty, and that certainly doesn't puree the seeds.

I have invented an iced latte type Protein Shake that really helps the shake go down. I add 2 teaspoons of decaff to a little hot Water to dissolve. Then I blend this into my Isopure vanilla Protein shake with ice. You could use regular coffee too if you are cleared for it.

My surgery is on Monday (July 30). When I first decided to have surgery, I thought to myself that this was an unnatural thing and that I was a fool (and a failure) for going this route until I told myself that being 400+ pounds was also not natural or normal. I am ready! I am getting impatient for the new me!

I'd be more ashamed if I didn't do everything possible to get healthy. Each and every one of us owes that to themselves.

Thank you for posting your experience. I am pre-op & want to hear the good, the bad, and the ugly. I too have clinical depression. It is well controlled at this time, but I'm nervous about afterward.
Wishing you the best in the rest of your journey!

I have read about substituting addictions and how some who have had bariatric surgery are prone to this. I don't anticipate turning to alchol because it was never a big part of my life before. I have given some thought to refocus my activities and revel in a better quality of life. I admit that I am a workoholic, so there are projects I can throw myself into. I do need to come to terms with becoming more active physically. I have told myself this will be easier once my knees and ankles don't hurt anymore and I can move without losing breath.

His is my first post. I am scheduled for surgery on July 30, and am presently on the pre-op fasting diet. I have already felt some results! I can't wait for my visit to the nutritionist to see how much I've already lost.
I am happy to see this forum because in surfing the internet, I was only seeing results of 120-150 pounds. My initial goal is to lose 200 lbs., but more than that would be great too!
