  1. For pre sleeve folks, my advice is to try and kick carbs, sodium and sugar habits about a month or two before surgery. This will make the 2 week pre sleeve diet oh so much easier and the transition into sleeve land as a post op easier as well. It is hard. I will not deny that. However, you will be glad to take care of head food issues before rather then after when you are also dealing with other physical or emotional issues. It takes about 3 weeks to form a new habit.
  2. Oh, love love love the exotic flavors and aromas from Indian food. I wish I were Indian for a moment. So good! We sometimes go to Indian buffet on Sunday for lunch and I eat a few bites of my wife's plate. The owner is really good about that because we have been customers for years. They are best Indian in WA, which is saying a lot. I really like chicken tikka, chicken Marsala and some of the veggie curries. Mmmmm, my mouth waters just writing about it. Slightly off topic, but we also love thai food for the same reasons. Chicken satay is always a favorite and the perfect size for a meal. Lately I have grown to really like chicken over steamed spinach with a little peanut sauce. I used to be a big fan of pud thai noodle and wide egg noodle dishes and would not try other things on the menu pre sleeve. The inability to eat noodle dishes has really opened up the rest of the menu to me. Mmmmm.
  3. I think there is something behind building all your food consumption around protein that neutralizes the desire for sweets. I am not sure how it works exactly, but the longer you stay away from them the less you will want them. When I do want something sweet, I have my daily dose of caramel chews as a treat. They are very low calorie and do not spike the insulin levels as sugar would do. I know it is hard, hang in there.
  4. I am really stoked after reading about this hidden menu. Thought I was never going to be able to eat there again. I think they will be on my menu sometime this next week.
  5. Yummmmmmmm....I am going to check this out.
  6. At about 5-6 weeks post op, your stomach will be healed enough for regular coffee. You probably do not need as much as pre sleeve. I have on average 1 cup a day and am about 7 months out.
  7. I have to agree. I also have been eating Ostrim lately which is a combination of beef and ostrich meat Jerky. I do not like the texture as much as regulat oberto jerky, but the flavor is good and is sold through my surgery center. The second snack that I only use before running is called chocolate paradise energy squares from nuts.com. it is loaded with good carbs for exercise where you need it ( eg running for an hour). My standard Snacks are usually chicken sausage (3 oz) or a Protein shake with Water.
  8. I have to not only congratulate you on the loss, but also the fact you basically still have the same amount of long flowing curly hair. It looks good on your new size.
  9. 7 months ago. For the most part, it has been a pretty darn good experience so far. Started at 360 at my highest before surgery, 335 on DOS and 185ish today. You can do it! The experience has been really good not only from the weight loss, but I also learned alot about myself in the process. I feel more authentic now and that has reduced a lot of the life struggles that occur when hiding behind my previously morbid obese lifestyle.
  10. I'll look for this. What is the brand? Would it be at Target or Costco? Those are the places I generally shop for my OTC needs.
  11. Oh, good suggestion! Never heard of the jello approach. I tried Bariatric Advantage and Celebrate tabs and capsules, respectively. Both made me hurl. Next I tried a trader joe high potency tab. That worked and tastes good to me. Now I am taking a GNC men's formula for active trainers, just what I need for high intensity running. I hope you find something that works and that you like.
  12. Some OTC sleep aid might help like tylenol pm. I find that one does not keep me asleep so sometimes I take 2 in order to get a good 7-8 hour sleep. I also stop drinking water 90 min before bedtime to remove a reason for waking multiple times during the night.
  13. I have heard of hair loss lasting until 9 months. Mine is still falling out, one hair at a time at 7 months. It was much worst month 3-6.
  14. It is a mouth full of saliva when you eat too much or too fast. There is also the worst stuck food pain that occurs for the same reason. It is worst when you start on solids and figure out how to eat sleeve-right. For me, months 2-4 was a lot of sliming because I always ate too fast. After 5 months, my sleeve healed enough that even eating too fast did not cause sliming. Thank goodness. However, I developed and intuitive sense to when I felt satisfied versus full. Try and satisfy your hunger and not make it a goal to eat to being full. It will take time for you to learn this skill. However, once you do develop the skill, it will take you a long ways towards a lifetime of healthy eating with others and when you are alone. You will have a peaceful relationship with eating food and be able to enjoy the intricate details of tastes and smells.
  15. Better not ask too many questions about that or you are going to have the DEA knocking at your door ( or breaking it down) at 2 am. LOL!
  16. Who loves the caramel coconut crunch ones (Samoas)? I love those, must resist....
