  1. I think there seems to be a 2 week lull for a lot of sleevers. Not talking about numbers exclusively, but mindset also! It's almost like post wedding blues-- you spend months even years planning and then poof it's done! Step away from the scales. Concentrate in recovery. Don't borrow trouble! You are you! The biggest way to get down is to compare yourself to others, so don't! xx
  2. Better late than never! I had surgery Tuesday June 26 in Australia, which means June 25 in USA!! I'm really struggling with my hernias but the sleeve is great. I have no weightloss goals or expectations yet, although I have lost. I was 103 kilos June 21 and 92.6 now Which is 227 lbs and now 204 lbs. so what's that, 23 lbs? I'm afraid to put expectation on myself for the short term, high protein and healing are at the forefront for me. Just toying with puréed food for a couple of days! Yum!
  3. I'm 18 days out. scales don't matter ATM. Our bodies are busy. Doing all the things it normally does to survive PLUS healing from major surgery. Our system is experiencing a major reboot. Worry about healing and Protein not about scales. I know it sounds odd when this is a WLS, but the sleeve is forever, healing is only a few weeks. You could be PmSing or fitting off a virus or holding Water because it's hot or heaven knows. Hide the scale!
  4. I had my gallbladder out when I did my sleeve. June 2010 I had twin boys. I was on a healthy pregnancy diet until giving birth, then ramped up the fats (milk, cheese, Peanut Butter, etc) to breast feed twins. First attack when bubs were 3 weeks old!! The gallbladder stores bile to process fat in digestion. More fat, more bile. When you change to low fat and the bile isn't used it is stored and sometimes forms stones. Then you go back to high fat and more bile pushes these stored stones thru the bile duct causing an attack.. So years of yo yo dieting means stones for many people and sudden weight loss and changes in food can cause stored stones to move. Here they have an increased risk or 5f's for gallbladder attacks: fertile (having had pregnancy recently) fat (bmi), fair (skin), forty and one I can't remember!
  5. I was going to say 2 things, look at your face!! Wow! How much younger do u look? And as above, look at the pressure coming off your knees as your thighs get smaller and your legs come closer together!! Those are def NSV!! Go u!!
  6. And-- weightloss will increase the chances of your diabetes resolving. Regardless of method. Healthy eating, moving your body and weightloss. So the sleeve or RNY or band-- lose weight and have reduced comorbidities!
  7. Start with spanx or shapewear and see if that helps before spending a ton on the others. My binder was $115 but I hate wearing stockings all the time and like the option to have it in or off in a snap and no need to move it to toilet.
  8. My issue to telling the world is that I worked hard pre-op to lose 45 lbs, healthy diet and exercise. Now 18 days post op and it hasn't been easy. And you know what, I will still have to diet and exercise, this is just another tool. So my issue is ppl who think WLS is for the lazy fat ppl to have an easy way out. So not true. And I dont have the time nor inclination to reinform the closed minded masses.
  9. In Australia I use actilax which is a lactulose syrup (liquid) ask at your pharmacy to see if there is an equivalent. Draws water into the large bowel to soften stool.
  10. That's how I found out I had a hernia, coughing kills! Mine were ingroinal, so between hip and pubis but still abdominal iykwim? They were cause by twin pregnancy, not sleeve surgery tho.
  11. I originally went in because my hernia wound was open and bleeding and they said while I was there they would pop a cannula in and give me some fluids since its so hard to stay hydrated post sleeve. it did help, felt a bit more energetic while telling hubby off. Lucky we live in Australia because the access to food I would kill him for is much greater in Texas! Spinach enchiladas for one!
  12. Hi! I had hernias repaired with my sleeve and finally got an abdominal binder as the hernias are in my groin, apron/ pannes region and feel like they just swing about. Have a look at shape wear like spanx or go a step further to binders or compression garments. Definitely helps!
  13. My husband stopped on the way from hospital with me in the car and got KFC drive thru. I don't eat KFC. Even pre-op. But I got really irritated with him anyway! I had been in emergency for 4 hours getting fluid drip. My stomach was trying to eat itself. Although no way I would have eaten KFC, I was angry he didn't go on his way to pick me up instead of after getting me? Even if he had thought of bringing a resource drink for me would have helped. I was definitely angry but not cause I wanted his food!
  14. You do look great. You look like a different person!!
  15. Maybe go for a second opinion if u can?
  16. My sleeve surgery was perfect! Only nausea from meds after but once they changed OxyContin and endone over to just targin, beautiful! The hernias, still suffering 18 days out but they were open surgery through my old caesarean scar, so feels like I've had my caesarean all over again, except this time I have toddler twins to cope with! Happy to be sleeve buddies and share your journey!!
  17. Yesterday I went the grocery store in another town, an a pushy lady was offering ciobani yogurt samples. I simply said do u have a plain one? She said I do but try this one. I said no, I've just had surgery and I'm on a restricted diet, just the plain thanks. She said OH lapband? I said no, sleeve. Then proceeded to explain the differences and answer her questions. I spent way more time than I really had but she was a bit overweight and her questions seemed innocent enough. Then she looks in my trolley and says, surely you shouldn't be buying those cookies then? So I'm standing there explaining to this woman I don't know why I have a pack of cookies in my trolley! I have a husband, a 17 and toddler twins! The older 2 like cookies, eat in moderation and do not have weight issues. Just rude IMO!
