I am also addicted to food. Food when I am happy and food when I am sad. Any kind of emotion I want food. Especially carbs. I quite smoking after 35 about 12 years ago so why can't I quit eating the wrong foods. You licked smoking and drinking, you are very strong also. It is not easy. I hope together with the help of this group and with prayer we can do it. Best of luck to you and keep in touch.

You are doing great. Me as a pre-oper would be sooooooooooooo happy to be under 200 lbs. I haven't seen that in over 40 years. And to be able to exercise and even walk a long way would be a great thing for me. You just keep on doing what you are doing and move move move. You will be just fine.

Don't sit at home feeling lonely. Hey, if nothing else, you have a computer and internet access. And how is the weather where you are? Here in KY the summer heat is over and it would be a wonderful time to take the children out to play or for a walk. If you live in a town or a city, I'm sure there is a playground you could visit too (and also meet other parent's of young children).
I know it's hard to reach out for friendship but the best way to meet friends is to be friendly. Makes sense, eh ? :-)

I agree DON'T ROCK THE BOAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I retired after 30 years at one place and i always lived by that moto, no matter what. I have seen a lot of people cause themselves so much grief by rocking the boat.

I am looking forward to people treating me better. I am tired of having my weight be the first thing people notice about me. It is sad though that people are affected so much by it, and I will try and remember this when I'm thinner. I don't wanna turn into the same person that has been ignoring me for years because of my weight =p

Thank you so much for sharing your journey. It really helps those of us that are waiting for surgery. We need to hear how bad it is and how good. I know when you heal you will be on your way. Best of luck and you are in my prayers.

I went through similar journey of starting out planning on lap band a couple of years ago, changing my mind, trying diet and exercise again for a year (unsuccessfully) not wanting to do bypass (for same reasons you stated) then deciding on sleeve. I do not have all of your health concerns other than a very lumpy bumpy thyroid with very little function, but so far it does not have to be removed. I did have several scares with chest pain (one that scared me enough to go to the emergency room) that turned out to be nothing, but it was enough to remind me that I want to live to see my children graduate college, get married, have grandchildren, travel etc....but if I kept on my current course, I was surely decreasing my chances of making it that far. Then my friend, who had the RNY operation four years ago, ran the NY Marathon. She looked great, she felt great and now she had accomplished something as incredible as that! Where was I, I was at my highest weight ever, 272 lbs feeling fat, tired, uncomfortable, embarrassed and miserable. I decided enough was enough and I got started on the journey to have the sleeve. It took 8 months of meetings with NUT, getting all the required work done etc, required by my insurance company. I had many moments of second thoughts, especially when I had to go for tests and things I would have otherwise never done in a million years. When my surgery was finally set, I almost cancelled about 100 times, I was so scared. BUT I went through with it on June 4th and I can honestly say it was the best thing I ever did! There were a few times in the hospital and during my first week home that I questioned what in the heck did I do to myself, but now I am getting used to the plan and I am down over 40 pounds since surgery and have never felt better!
My point in telling you all of this is that it is human nature to cling to our old way of life because we are scared and it is what we know. It is really scary and hard to face the unknown of how things will be after surgery (and for me I had NEVER had surgery of any kind, so I was also really scared of the unknown of what that would be like). The tests and all the visits are a pain, but need to be soldiered through with your eye on the end goal...YOUR HEALTH! In the end, this surgery has helped so many people improve their health and their lives in unbelievable ways. I just read a post of someone who after 9 months is down 90 lbs and off of her 12 meds! With all of your health issues, imagine what life would be like for you if losing weight nullified or at least alleviated most of them! It is normal to be scared and uncertain, but in the end, don't let that get in the way of taking control of your life and your health. YOU ARE WORTH IT! Good luck to you. My prayers are with you that you can find peace and calm going through this process and that you have a safe and successful surgery.

You can do it. When I quit smoking after 35 years I kept telling myself "I never want to go thru this again". I have been smoke free 12 years. Doing both at the same time is quite a feat. You will be in my prayers.

My husband had stage 4 bladder cancer. It went to his lymph nodes and he was put thru much chemo. He slept a lot He took the medicine that keeps you from getting sick(vomit). This went on for 6 months and he has been cancer free for 6 years. Do what they say, eat no time to diet (he was 100 lbs overweight and nobody knew how sick he was). I cooked everything for him in cast iron with a tomato in it to leach the iron out of the pot. Not the tastiest but it helped to keep his blood counts up. He did not loose his hair. Everyone doesn't. You don't believe them at first, then you get very angry, then you accept it and fight like he*#$.
Best of luck and you are in my prayers.

Best of luck Lila.. I too am waiting. I have my second appointment the same day you have your first. I have been through a lot of the before tests. the only thing I have left is the heart doctor (wanted to wait closer to surgery for that). It has been kind of a whirlwind trying to get it all done. Many tests and doctors visits, Now I found out that my PCD is leaving practice and now I must find a new one. Something else to consume my time finding a good Dr, It took 2 months to find the doctor for the sleeve surgery. Went to many meetings and researched for hours and finally found an experienced one on the sleeve. My insurance makes you wait 90 days from the first appointment which puts me at the end of september. Then the dr office said 2-4 weeks after that. Hope it is sooner and not later. Getting too close to the holidays.
Best of luck to you and keep us infomed.

You should write a book. You are too young to know who Erma Bombeck was but she wrote like you about everyday life experiences. I enjoyed your short story. Give one of her books a try after your company leaves you will see what I mean.
