O.T.R. sleever got a reaction from KristinaRN in Scared I Will Resent My Husband For Treating Me Differently After....
I guess it's time for me to get more hate mail.
First off, men are very visual, we are turned on by what we see. If you were thinner and in better shape and more confident when you met him, you can bet that he found that version of you attractive.
If as you gained weight, his affections dwindled, as did your confidence, well, the blunt reality is that his physical attraction likely decreased as your weight increased.
I know this sounds horrible, but it's a man thing, it's just the way we are. We can't fake a physical relationship.
The fact that he has stayed by you through all of this is testimony that he loves you. It's just the brutal reality of being a man, we can't pretend to be sexually attracted to someone.
So when he starts flirting with you more, maybe even gets a little jealous, take it as a compliment
We can say anything you want to hear, and believe me we know what you want to hear. But the way he treats you is is his real tribute to your success

I know many go to Mexico to get sleeved or they get into a program that fast-tracks them and everyone wants to rush the process.
I have seen people go through the six month process and gain weight only to have to hurry up and do some major dieting to to be allowed the surgery.
I balked the first time I went to WLS and they wanted me to get psychological counseling. I hate the lady, seriously, and my husband lost his job so I backed out. The 2nd time I went to another place, and I balked about the six months, I ended up getting pneumonia and I backed out first month.
The third time I grabbed all the information and made a binder from both places and I started the diet on my own. 800-900 calories, 80 grams of Protein, 45-75 carbs and I started charting my food (the thing I dreaded the most was writing my food down and looking up calories etc.). I charted my Water, and I contacted Healthy4life. I realized I could get denied because of the Lupus and I decided to put 100% effort into it. I lost 70 pounds pre-op.
I worked on behavior modification in advance. I think that is what is really truly needed. I think a lot of people think that this is going to do the work for them. Even with everything I did in advance, giving up coffee, exercising etc. the surgery still was a bit hard on me, I still kind of wig out that I can barely get in 2 ounces of food at a sitting. I still look at steak with longing in my heart, I would love some Rice-A-Roni Beef flavored but I love my life so much more.
At the beginning of last summer I knew I was dying. I sat there with a heart monitor in my chest, lupus and I could barely breathe. My normal size A cup was now going on DD, I couldn't get up the stairs without help and I found out my great grandmother died at the age of 49 of Morbid Obesity related illnesses, the ones I had. She didn't have a brain tumor like me, or Lupus, or neurological issues, but she had the rest of the stuff I had. I figured my son would come in from school and find me dead and I said no more.
If the people getting sleeved don't say no more, if they don't put 100% effort into this, and don't start thinking about their lives as worthy of putting effort into, they will lose weight at the beginning, but will find ways to justify the french fries, the piece of cake, the ice cream, the spaghetti and the burrito.
It's up to you to work out the issues you have with food, with or without psychological help. The sleeve is only a tool. Many people I know that had gastric bypass have gained their weight back, people that were lap banded gained weight back, stalled or ended up with more complications. I can't afford to, I need to live. If I die it's going to be because I got hit by a bus, or because of the lupus, or the brain tumor, I'm not dying because of my weight. No more.
    Good luck to you.

I see so many threads about "I don't want anybody to know". Have tou ever stopped to think about the other side of the coin? When people are secretive about things if you enquire, don't you then assume the worst case scenario? In an office environment the rumors are always so much worse than what is really going on.
My suggestion is to tell them what is going on. You don't have to go so far as to disclose everything. But give them enough to relax their curiosity or concern.
For example. Do you have diabetes? Tell them you are undergoing a procedure that will hopefully cure your diabetes.
Do you have sleep apnea, heart issues? Tell them you are getting a procedure that will cure ore minimize these conditions.
All of these would be true, and once you've had the surgery, you can go back and tell the rest of the story if you so chose.

Yup, you hit the nail right on the head, it's all about calories. Whether you choose to reduce you're intake or increase the number you burn, that's the only choice
As far as it being a failure, I for one don't view it that way, you've lost almost 90lbs!! And comparing your loss to your husbands is simply not fair to you.
The simple fact is men& women are different. It may not be politically correct but it's true. Women typically carry much less muscle on them, & they tend to be smaller framed.
So if your caloric intake is the same as you're husbands then it does make sense that his loss would be greater. His body burns more calories at rest simply because of the existence of more muscle tissue. Then when you both do the same exercise, he is engaging larger muscles therefore he is burning more calories.
I know this really is not what most ladies want to hear, but I hope this helps you. You've come a long way, don't get discouraged now. It's time to adapt & overcome.
    YOU CAN DO IT

Someone should do a study on this. I'm thinking we would need a pre-op test & 3-6-9-12month post op tests.

May I ask, how much excercise are you getting in? Gatorade is great, but you really don't need all those electrolytes if you are not sweating heavily (from excercise). One of my tricks is I dilute almost everything I drink. If I have a 20 oz Gatorade I'll add anywhere from 10-20 oz of Water to it.

I have no problem with dispensing with sports drinks all together, as long as you are getting all the hydration you need.

Get off the scale. Sometimes I think we trade out food addiction for a scale addiction. I know it's hard to resist, but like anything else it gets easier with time.
You'll never quite understand how much stress it releases by scaling weekiy. Hey, doesn't stress affect weight loss?

The funny thing is see here is, all this equipment that is supposed to be state of the art, is in pretty much every hole in the wall surgical facility in Mexico.
I will not argue, Dr Aceves is without doubt one of the 2 top choices in Mexico, the other being Dr Alvarez @ Endobariatric.
I was personally sleeved by Dr Ponce de leon. From the day I left the int hospital, I haven't had a single medication (excluding stool softeners), haven't had a single complication, or even a moment of regret.
I'm happy to say, the you get what you pay for mindset just doesn't hold true here. If paying 40% more makes you feel like you had a better experience, then I am happy for you. But to suggest that someone that has scrimped & saved to get the money to self pay for a good qualified surgeon (ponce, Kelly, Garcia) should go into debt so they can go to your doctor, is reprehensible.
I personal could have gone to any doctor I wanted to and just written a check for it (yes including the 60K surgery in NJ), and I seriously considered both Almanza & Alvarez, however the more actual research I did the more I found that Kelly's & Ponce's credentials & patient satisfaction rates were equally impressive. The only thing they didn't have was the extra $3250 in their fee.
The deciding factor between Kelly & Ponce, for me was Trish, since Kelly had just recently stopped using coordinators, and Trish was now with Dr Ponce exclusively.
I don't advocate debt, I believe it is a cancer on our society. There is a line somewhere that says "the borrower is slave to the lender". I simply don't see why anyone would sign up to be someone else's slave.
If you have the money, and it makes you feel better to write an 8750dollar check than one for 5500, then I'm happy for you. But don't for a minute believe that just because you spent more money that you got better results.

Hunger? I have het to feel hunger at all. I had a few cravings early on but even those went away pretty quickly.
Numb butt syndrome---- I'm totally lost on this one.

IDK about others, but for me I had a few cravings the first 7-10 days then it just went away. Now my biggest problem is remembering to eat. I often miss meals because eating is not something I look forward to anymore. It's become a burden, kinda like fueling the car, or washing it. It needs to be done, but I wish I could pay someone else to do it for me.
I've actually gotten to the point where I'd really rather just have Meal Replacement shakes. Just because I can drink them faster and be done with it.

I'm actually looking forward to hitting goal. Then I'm gonna go to El Paso and get me some Chico's Tacos. I'm thinking a single order will do the trick. I use to eat 2 doubles and a single. (I wonder if I'll still like them?)

Tjmom, you are doing great! Your resolve to have a better life is incredible. So inspiring to see you come so far so fast.
Just remember, when you push yourself this hard it's a lot like weight training. Your body needs a bit of a break to heal between workouts. Also I would greatly recomend deep tissue massages, they hurt like hell, but they help so much with circulation to your muscles, and thus speed your healing process.
    Keep up the great progress.

I am going with Dr. Ponce. My surgery is on Monday the 23rd. I live in San Diego and have been able to go to MX look at the hospitals talk to the nurses meet the Drs I was deciding on. There are several qualified surgeons at varying prices. Go to the surgeon you feel comfortable with. Another thing that made me feel comfortable was Trish at WLS. She lives in MX, unlike most of the coordinators and will be there for you if you need her. I am going by myself and appreciate that fact very much.
    Good luck with your journey
