It Works!!!!
It's true - this band actually works! :clap2: After my disatstrous day of PBing on Tuesday and liquids for most of the day yesterday, I woke up this morning feeling great. No pain in the chest or between the shoulder blades, no nausea etc. I had a bran bar for Breakfast and just finished lunch which was a salad with grilled chicken. There is probably enough left over for 3 more meals and I am perfectly satisfied! This is amazing. I hope this keeps up. The only thing I am finding quite challenging is not being able to drink afterwards. My mouth feels very dry. I thought of just swishing my mouth with Water. Has anyone tried that?

medic alert braclet or necklace
I am conflicted. I should have been wearing one for the last 10 years since I have been on insulin...but I have not. A couple of weeks ago I had to go to emerg with stomach pain and was able to tell them I had a band, but I could not help but think what if I were unconscious??? I am serisouly considering it. What about you?

To all those getting their 1st fill
Hi Rob, No, I was there in the morning and my seminar was all women - so I'm sure you were not there! I think what happens is that we get used to the band! We learn to chew and eat properly and then the gas subsides. I have the worst gurgling!!! But LAst night and today I was able to eat small amounts and CHEW, CHEW, CHEW and it was much better. Remember that the band is an instrument that takes time to learn how to play!

To all those getting their 1st fill
Hi Doddie, I was banded May 2nd by Dr. Yau. I had my first fill Monday and though it the fill itself was great (no pain or anything). I have PBed almost everything I tried to eat yesterday. I really think it was because I did not chew well enough so I will go on liquids for a day or two and then try again.
-
First Fill
I had my first fill on Monday and I am definitely restricted. Don't know if it will last or how long, but I PBed a few times, so am on liquids today until I feel better. The fill istself was painless and easy!

To all those getting their 1st fill
I agree - since it was discussed and unless he had a good reason for putting it there - then you should not have to pay. Let us know

Port Pain?
I would say it's normal. I had a large bruise around my port and was tender for the first while. You are just out of surgery, so give it some time.

To all those getting their 1st fill
Donna D- can you ask them if they can move it for you?

To all those getting their 1st fill
Thanks Leslie, My fill went great! No pain at all and very quick. I did drink my bottle of Water, but had to do so much slower and gurgled alot! I think I might have a little restiction now. Nancy put in 4 cc and my next fill is in 2 weeks. I met Jurema and a number of other really nice people that have not found their way here yet. I gave them the name and hope to see them here sometome soon. How did the rest of guys do?

What a great surprise!
Wow Lesliee you are doing great! That ticker is on fire girl.

Tanning is bad - salons or real sun. My mantra is sunblock, so that you can get the vitamin D without the burn and stress on my skin.

Hey Jannet - I will see you there!

Did YOU Start Solids Early???
I did not - I was afraid to rush that stage. I think it is an easier transition form mushies to solids than it is from full fluids to mushies. How much longer to go? Try to hang in there.

Eating plan for diabetic bandster
Thanks Nancy, I appreciate the tips! The weird thing is, and maybe it's because I am nervous about tomorrow, is that I have been feeling someehat restricted all day. We had a family BBQ for lunch and could not finish my hambuger - ate about 1/3, Then dinner was a take out roast chicken dinner and could not finish that either! Weird, but I hope it is a preview of what will happen for me. Looks like we are on the same insulin regimen. I take levemir as well, but my fast acting is novorapid. Has you doctor indicated that you might come off insulin with weight loss? I have been diabetic for 25 years, so I doubt that will happen in my case, but I am hoping to go off blood pressure meds at least. We will see.

Eating plan for diabetic bandster
Hi Nancy, I was banded 6 weeks ago and go for my first fill tomorrow. Yippee, because I have been feeling like you - can eat what and how much I want and not making the best choices. I lost 25 lbs preop and have put back about 7 so far. Hoping this fill tomorrow will help. I am also diabetic. You didn't say if you are on meds/insulin but in either case the best thing is the typical bandster diet. Eat your Protein first, followed by complex low glycemic carbs i.e. veggies and fruit and then if there is room, a small amount of good starch i.e. grains, sweet potatoes, brown rice if you can eat it, whole wheat Pasta etc. The problem with stuff like chocolate and ice cream; simple carbs/sugars - especially for us is that not only do they raise our glucose levels very quickly, which in turn makes us hungrier!!!, they are also very addicitive. For me, the best way to do this is go off simple sugars completely for a week. Usually after 3-4 days, I feel better and don't feel the urge to eat that stuff as much, by a week I am not feeling the pull of it at all. Your blood sugars will be great, just remember to monitor often for lows because this is likely when you hve been consuming alot of sugar and then go off. I take a basal dose of insulin once each evening and then carb count for my meals to take the rapid insulin required to cover what I am eating. It is more work, but definitely worth the tight control I get. Let me know what you think and feel free to pm me any time. Good luck!
