jobster71 reacted to MamaT in Saying Goodbye To My Scale
So I went & saw my surgeon today- he asked me how often I weigh myself-- about every 8 days or so. He then preceded to say that weighing yourself weekly can hurt your loss.
It made complete sense to me. He said as you lose weight your clothes will start falling off, dropping sizes and so on. But because our weight loss will fluctuate and hit stalls, by looking at the scale weekly, the numbers start to dictate how I feel, not the WAY I feel. He said that I could have a great week, staying on track , exercising, the whole bit... And I may feel amazing and my clothes feel loose and I feel great, but if step on the scale and only see a 1 lb loss for that week, then I'll get upset and think I'm not doing well.
I've fallen into that trap before.. I can remember years ago walking into a WW meeting feeling great, only to see I lost no weight that week, and leaving and driving straight to McD's.
So goodby scale, I'll visit you once a month when my hubby takes you out of hiding.

That is awesome for you. Unfortunately, not everyone is in a place where they feel theycn be as open and confident with their decision as you are. Not everyone has people who would be supportive or non judgemental. People like myself from abused backrounds are harder on themselves and are brought up feeling loads of shame and the thought of more people judging them gives them anxiety and pain. And some people are just private in general.

    jobster71 reacted to tntransplant06 in 16 Mos Out...disappointed
Sleeved in January 2011. Lost 87 lbs the first 11 mos. My weight at the beginning was 349, so I am still morbidly obese at 262. Yes, I'm thinner, yes I'm healthier, yes, I'm happier, but NO, I'm not satisified. My husband also had the sleeve in the same month, he's lost 130lbs. He is still morbidly obese at 280. He is ok with where he is at. Would like to lose more but he is happy with where he is at, he thinks it was a success. I want at least 63 more pounds off in order for it to be a success for me.
We both eat about 1800 calories a day, sometimes 2000, sometimes 1500. We both bike and walk. I guess the real secret is eating 1000 calories a day and to be honest, neither of us can do it. We are hungry. Not starving, but not full enough to live on 1000 calories.
Hindsight....I would have done it one step further and gotten the BPD, too. We were cash pay and as it's so expensive we chose this thinking it would be the answer. Unfortunately, it did not get us to our goals. I am working with a psychologist now and she is trying some methods that may help me eat less. My hands are up in the air in frustration as this point so I hope she can help.
This is not meant to discourage anybody considering this, just a piece of advice. If you are way overweight as we were, you might need more than just the sleeve.

Um.. that's kind of the point.. of sleeve -- to force you into compliance when you still "want" to eat more..
You're early on in this journey, so just take your time and have patience - it'll all be worth it in the end. I'm still pre-op, but I'm totally excited about my surgery and can't wait. I wish you the best of success in your journey!

I'm a little over 2 months out and so far, I would rate it a 10. I'm 45lbs down, and feeling the best I've felt in over 10 years. So much more energy, and no issues with food. This is the best decision I've ever made regarding ME!

I was sleeved 10 days ago and I just went to the gym in my condo complex!!! I walk by it everyday on my thrice daily walks, and today I decided WTH, I'm going in there. I didn't know if I would have the strength to do much but I did 25 min cardio. I was headed for the elliptical and realized I was dizzy, so instead I chilled out and then headed home. It felt good and I am so happy to be active this early after surgery. More good things to come!

Stop beating yourself up now. Here are a few things I would suggest in my opinion and if you've done them already, I'm sorry to sound redundant:
    1. Sign up with an online tracker today, like my fitness pal or one of the others.
    2. Clean your kitchen of any no no foods immediately. Shop for only the foods you are allowed to eat.
    3. Pick yourself up by the bootstraps and know you can do this. Find a mentor, partner in this endeavor. And get with a support group ASAP.
    4. Make a list of all the things you can do instead of eating the wrong things---includings eating out with friends.
    5. You made the decision over a year ago to lose weight---that decision is still in you wanting to come out.
You were right to come on this site to ask for help and support. Above all ask your God or Higher Power for guidance. Hugs & blessings sent your way. Remember: today can be your first day!!!

My surgery is on Thursday and I am about jump out of my skin... I have so many fears! Then when I tell someone I'm having it, their first response is "you aren't big enough, are you?". I'm right at 100lbs overweight, my labs & risk factors are off the chart... my bmi is 38. My dilemma was: do it now while I can or put it off another few years and risk my health...
I don't know about anyone else, but this almost feels like this surgery is going to save my life. I did discuss my fears with my Doctor today and his reply was "Well, if you put average effort into your sleeve, you'll get average results. If you eat right, exercise and use your tool, you'll get better than average results". It clicked... for the first time... it clicked!
    Thoughts & prayers!!

I having surgery may 21 and have the same thoughts going through my head.... but I know I will lose the weight as I have yet to see anyone on here not lose anything... it seems each person loses at different rates. I just hope I'm not on the slow side of weightloss.
