Lose100 got a reaction from meachie in My banded life
75 lbs is great. The one thing I have learned on my journey is to never compare my success to anybody else's. It's not about losing the weight fast, it's about losing safely and being healthy. My friend had Gastric Bypass and lost a ton of weight. But, she gained ALL of that weight back and stretched out her pouch. She tired to get it revised to the Lap band but her surgeon wasn't able to place the band. Lap band was the best decision for me. Congrats on your upcoming Banniversary!!!!!!

Lose100 reacted to B-52 in Stick at the start of eating
Happens to me all the time....I am most tight in the morning and cannot eat at all until later towards lunch.....even my morning Protein smoothies has to go down slow....
People, including me, say the Band gets tighter and looser...but in reality the band remains constant....
I believe it is our pouch that gets larger and smaller....just as the stomach can do from eating and not eating.....stretch and contract...it's natural and expected......
The more we eat, quantity and frequency....the more the pouch dilates, making it easier to accept food.....it is the hardest to take food after we have not eaten for quite some time, and the pouch is given a chance to rest and return to normal...which we say we feel tight....
That is why I am the tightest in the morning,,,i have not eaten anything in 12 hours, plus slept for a good rest.....
I can also experience this if I do not eat all day until late dinner...I KNOW the first few bites are going to be painful.....
In reverse, people who cannot stop eating, or ignore their band...run the risk of dilating their pouch and never giving it a chance to relax and return to normal size....like a "beer belly" but on a smaller scale....
What does the Dr, prescribe? ALL liquids for a few days to let the pouch relax and return to normal.....IF the Dr. feels the patient will not comply and keep on eating, then he/she will have to do a complete un-fill, therefore giving the pouch a chance to rest....even if patient eats solid food.....
For general maintenance, I go all liquids for 2-3 days, usually pick one weekend every 4-6 weeks...this keeps my pouch in good health....(Tight band)
I can also tell when I need to do this based upon how easy it is for me to eat, or the band starts to allow my portions increase in size......
Some people refer to this as the "5 day pouch test" which really is not a rest...it is a protocol to let the pouch rest and return to normal.....hopefully....

You can not compare yourself against anyone else. We are all "individuals". Especially men are totally different from women and they will lose weight faster.
Just stick to your LB instructions and don't worry about him. Log your calories, get in your Protein and Water and worry about you.
Even though you had surgery together, it is still seperate individual journeys.

Reality is Some weeks you will lose and some you won't.
Plain Water is the purest you can drink. As far as what is considered acceptable that depends on your doctor. Some doctors allow teas, some don't,caffiene vs. no caffiene depends on your doctor. If your doctor doesn't care then its going to depend on your preferences.
As you have probably observed all doctors have different thought when it comes to diet, that applies to your beverages as well. If you find your not loosing and you drink crystal light/teas, try plain water or water with a little lemon juice, but make sure when you try the change you keep your dietand exercise the same.If there is no difference then it doesn't matter. Do which ever you want. Remember we are each unique what works for 1 won't necessarily work for another. Its your determiation that is going to see you through.

Any weight loss is a great accomplishment. Please don't rush it. Your body needs time to heal. You are on your way. I was feeling the some way 6 months post op. But I had to remember that I didn't gain the weight over night, so I can't expect to lose it overnight. Since all bodies are different, we lose weight differently. I had to stop comparing my weight lost to everyone else's lost. You had this surgery because you want to lose weight and you WILL. April 3 is my 1 year Banniversary. One thing the Lap band as taught me is PATIENCE. Hang in there, it does get better.

I was banded on 4/3/12. My largest weight was 291. Today, I weigh 227 for a total lost of 64 pounds. One of my coworkers told me last week "you look like a different person". I didn't think my looks change that much. I personally didn't see a big change. Well, yesterday that coworker bought in an old picture of me from our work picnic from 6/2011. I didn't take many photos of me back then so I don't have a lot for comparison. OMG, I was in total SHOCK!!!!! I looked like a totally different person. I really needed to see that. That really encouraged me. I don't ever ever ever what to be that size again. I am soooo happy with my decision to have the Lap band. It does work. You just gotta work the tool!!!!!

Great advice and so true...try and find other ways to gauge success. Using just a scale to measure success will lead to some very frustrating days. I know because I am still a scale addict nearly a year out. I am not nearly as bad.

That is what I was always told, too. In fact I have always drank a ton of green tea. But while in the hospital this past couple days, I was told that while tea and crystal light type stuff are a good for hydration they still can't replace plain old Water for cleansing and kidney function. So, I guess it depends on what you're trying to accomplish. For hydration, yes. For cleansing, apparently we still need water.

I agree! My daughter was talking to a friend about the surgery (she was recently banded in February as well) and they were concerned it wouldn't work. She found an old picture of me (I was hard to photograph pre-surgery as well) and showed them before and afters. They didn't believe I was the same person. She showed me the picture and it was a confidence boost as to how far I've come. Congrats to you on your weight loss and good luck!!!

You won't lose every day or even every week. It's very normal for weight loss to slow down. The average weight loss is 1-2 pounds a week so you have to be realistic in your expectations.
